    Tbf, there’s only a couple of world class strikers, and that seems about right. But if you consider the amazing strikers that all were playing at the same time from 2007-2020. Then you’d realize that there are a shortage of world class strikers
    I’ll name some RVP, aubameyang, Cavani , drogba, villa, Suarez, Kane, Aguero, Benzema, zlatan, lewandoski
    Now if we were to name the strikers on the level of those players today. I could name Kane, Haaland, Mbappe(?)(he’s more of a winger), osimhen, Martinez.
    And honestly some of those are questionable. Osimhen has had a pretty bad season, Mbappe isn’t even a striker really.
    Are there some decent strikers that could get into the best teams in the 2010s? Yes for sure. But would they have displaced those guys in their primes? Probably not. I mean I would take prime Luis Suarez over Mbappe, considering in his prime he out scored a prime Messi and Ronaldo, while sharing the pitch with Messi.
    I’m not saying Haaland is a cheap copy of zlatan, but zlatan is what is being compared to Haaland, and zlatan clears Haaland as a footballer (dribblers, passer) and he was doing that shit at like 32.
    I do think football has less clinical strikers, there’s some good ones, but back in the day, there was an abundance of strikers scoring goals for multiple teams. But in the modern era it seems like some teams for a season or two don’t even have a striker and have to rely on their wingers, and attacking midfielder to score their goals.
    Football, has become more systematic and less about individual flair, this may be the reason why there’s less strikers. If you think about the ability to get into the right position to score or taking chances to score outside the box or from bad angles.

      I assure you if drogba, villa and auba were reincarnated now and we saw how they were playing hardly anyone would label them as worldclass. For auba it would be about his link up play and reliance on his pace, for villa it would be his physical profile and possibly his general goal scoring record, for drogba it would be his goal scoring prowess. but also a lot of goal scoring burden has shifted to other positions and this isnt new. rvp used to be a winger, drogba likewise, villa likewise, suarez as well and he also played as a 10, benzema was also a winger. Now we have son, salah, mane more recently. before that we had bale and so on. so this is a bit of cherry picking. good attacking teams often face low blocks and are reliant more and more on attacking rotations, set piece routines and counterpressing to create goal scoring oppurtunities. hence, less space in behind, and also fewer oppurtunities for strikers to beat a defender or to catch defenders exposed in transition because of how teams set up against big teams. Also the statistical barrier for world class is much much much higher now -- i think in part because of ronaldo and messi. but ronaldo and messi probably faced some of the generally weakest defensive competetion we have seen in the last quarter century at least -- both in terms of general defensive structure, and also the emphasis for defensive personnel. now we see a shift back to some older personal methods such as back 4's with players all taller than 6 feet, or the normalization of center backs playing as fullbacks. Recall Ronaldo was considered world class and balondor competetive even with 2 seasons with less than 20 league goals, he was an elite goal scoring threat at that time. Now we can have people simulteneously say there are harldy any worldclass strikers yet in many leagues there are numeroues elite goal scoring threats -- kane, salah, haaland, mpabbe, gyorkeres, watkins, dovbyk (who based on his skillset and track record should have a lot more acclaim) etc.
      But also that past football was about flair or had more flair i dont know if that really holds true. there was a lot more duels and long balls in older football, or rather there was more chaos. but there is definitely still lots of mavericks, flair and individual brilliance now. perhaps in more repetitive and patterned ways -- such as repeated 1on1 attempts at a targeted defender, or reliance on press resistance from a single midfielder. but thats not entirely new either. look at how madrid relied on zidane, and how almost every game in the 2000s kicked off with an early long ball down the wings. if you want individual mavericks just look at a player like doku, or xavi simmons, or even ross barkley this season theres plenty more that play in such ways. and even in the past zidane doenst get to shine as bright without makilele. likewise hazard and kante.

      Stop throwing around the term world class and not know what it means. There are more than a couple of world class strikers, it’s just that you only look at the two best strikers in the world without even paying attention to the others.

    Darwin Nunez world class potential?😂 the standard of strikers is objectively worse rn. The only certified world class strikers r lewandowski, kane and haaland. There are good strikers but few world class ones. I’m sorry but claiming the likes of Toney, Chan n Watkins r gonna be world class to the ilk of strikers we had in the past is laughable n one of the worst takes I’ve ever heard. Once upon a time we had aguero, Costa, suarez, benzema, drogba, Rooney, falcao, ibra, tevez and these r just to name a few. Idk how u can look at the names I just mentioned n look at the striker market rn n not accept that there’s been a big drop off. In a market where Darwin Nunez is worth £65 mil only Lord knows how much prime Jamie vardy would’ve been worth lol, and he wasn’t even top 10/15 strikers itw.

    Nowadays many teams play with the striker dropping deep and the wingers coming inside sort of like firmino mane and salah at Liverpool. You can see it with arsenal now also with Havertz dropping deep and saka and Trossard coming in. Even Kane drops deep for Munich. Wingers score more goals now than they used to for this reason. The goals are more shared around in teams

      Nah I mean some do, it all depends on tactics. Even Haaland before joining City was a more complete striker, nowadays he's a pure target man, I feel Guardiola's not using him in his fullest, even with the risk of diminishing his overall output. His performances in the Madrid matches were embarrassing, he should implement more variegated movement to become more unpredictable, just like he used to do with Dortmund

      ronaldo and messi were not strikers, they only played those roles occasionally, and out of necessity in messi's case (he was a false 9 when villa broke his leg). there are top goal scorers regardless -- haaland, mpabbe, salah etc. A lot of top teams also are less dependent on a main goal scoring outlet and there are still all time elite strikers in their prime -- kane for instance.

    I agree that football is going through a transitional stage where strikers are required to do more than score but I think your overall take is very poor, stupid even. Most strikers we saw as strikers (Zlatan, Aguero, Kane, Lewandowski, Suarez, Rooney, Benzema, Cavanni) by the time they were 24-25 they had 150+ goals by then. Haaland is the exception cause he’s doing what nobody in his age range is doing. Osimhen is turning 26 and he only got more than 25+ goals last season. Lautaro just hit 150 goals this season and he’s turning 27 this year. The Alan Shearer you were insulting finished second in the Ballon D’Or voting so yes he was one of the best strikers in the world at his time. All the players you mentioned as players who could become world class based on the trajectory of output they aren’t getting 150+ goals by 25. Isak may be the most overrated striker of them all cause based on his XG the amount of goals he’s scored is the same his scored. Meaning he’s neither over performing or underperforming. Before the Tottenham game he was underperforming. Plus this is the first time in his career he’s scored more than 20+ goals even though he barely had many injuries at R.sociedad at the 3 seasons he was there. Majority people didn’t know who Gyokeres was before he was scoring for Sporting CP. overall if you don’t know what your talking about man but you’ve mentioned that in your message thing under your profile picture

    Football is just very different nowadays. Teams are too systematic and more often than not, most seems to play the same tactics and have the same ideology. Players are now athletes first, then footballers; clubs are now mega corporations. No club nowadays would allow the behavior and big personalities of players from yesteryear. Going back to the strikers discussion; there's simply no room for individualism and displays of flair. Strikers now needs to follow everything by the book in today's tactics, otherwise they'd compromise the already sterile and monotone style of play. Call me old fashioned, but football was more exciting and more of an spectacle 20 years ago.

  • @dyamigerhold8009
    @dyamigerhold8009 9 днів тому

    When I think of world class strikers, I think of players who add beauty to the game and individuality while dominating the pitch at the same time. Strikers like Falcao, Van Persie, Zlatan, Suarez, and Balotelli are the first that come to mind. All who didn’t need years to show their ability. Of the newer striker generation, there are none that I’ve seen fulfill that. They do the same thing equally as well, the ones who are considered the best just do the same thing more and consistently. Football is also an art along with being a sport and the art is not there currently, especially with strikers.

    Kane, Guirassy , Openda and Undav have all been incredible also younger strikers who will be on that level soon like Sesko and Boniface

    I think, that's not a problemin it - problem is that, strikers, and other players not having characters, there aren't many players who stand out like Ibra, Rooney and others. Football is looking like product with brand fresh, marketing, graphics, sponsors and beautiful cover - but the taste isn't the same like previous years like 00-10 or 2016

  • @TheOutlierToday
    @TheOutlierToday Місяць тому +1

    There's a shortage of talent in football nowadays in general. Not just strikers. Players seem to be getting worse. Sure haaland is a legendary goal scorer but he's less talented than every other striker you mentioned before him that has retired or is about to retire.

    • @Susanoo1016
      @Susanoo1016 29 днів тому

      I don’t think there’s a shortage, but more higher standards of what’s talent. Football has become dependent on players that come from once and a Millennium: Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Society is so used to them scoring 50 to 60 goals a season that anyone that doesn’t provide that is seen as “disappointing”.

    • @TheOutlierToday
      @TheOutlierToday 29 днів тому

      @Susanoo1016 This is the wildest take I've seen. The average player 20 years ago has superior technique to the average player today. The focus today is efficiency and proficiency and physical performance compared to before, where it was mostly what you can do with the ball. Players are scoring more today than they ever did. Football isn't short of goals or goal scorers. The issue is that players aren't that good with the ball. The focus is elsewhere.

    This video is a massive L, poor calls
    People want strikers to be more well rounded, not to just score goals cos the older generation strikers like lewy, Suarez, etc were very good on the ball and entertaining to watch, not just waiting in the box and getting hatricks from 0.5 touches of the ball. People actually want strikers to get hatricks while simultaneously being entertaining to watch when they’re not scoring goals. That’s why we are let down by 9s like haaland. Bro really called nunez like wtf 😂. I rate you but please, don’t call a raft of mid 9s in prem with your sole argument being they could be world beaters “wItH tImE 🤡”. Just like saying mc tominay could be a kdb regen with time. That sounds outrageous yeah? That’s exactly how you sounded in this vid. Darwin nunez??? Wtf

      @USER06584B Місяць тому +1

      ligue 1 quality is so underrated. and this is also a narrative story which also covers up just how aesthetic this convo is. Lacazzette is an elite striker with elite technique in ligue 1 but struggled in the prem. messi has worked well with other elite attackers but struggled to hit the heights in ligue 1. Not to mention the way elite strikers in the past played at a time when there was less goals per game on average, and the questions that are relevant about the quality of teams attacks and the utility of strikers, let alone what makes a striker elite looks different. I mean look at girouds amalgamated skillset and the season he is having -- he has for a long time clearly been elite in some aspects of striker play, link up, attracting defensive attention, headers and not others (pace, finishing big chances) yet he also has immense success and has played in elite attacks domestically and with france as a crucial cog.

    • @JibRules
      @JibRules  Місяць тому +2

      I think a video about Ligue 1 strikers is necessary cause look at the likes of Laca and Auba who struggled in their latter years at arsenal but are thriving in the League so what does that say? Was the system they played at arsenal flawed or is Ligue 1 easy. Their top sides success in continental competitions this season would suggest otherwise
