I can’t believe you’re surprised that Bre did the photoshoot whilst sick. They have to on Top Model or they get sent home for not wanting it enough. In Cycle 6 Dani was in hospital with an IV in her arm and left the hospital to do the photoshoot (in the middle of the jungle on an Elephant). Every season after that Tyra says, “You don’t want it enough. Dani left hospital to do a photoshoot,” like that is okay behaviour to be encouraged. Cycle 7 CariDee nearly got hypothermia in a freezing cold pool during a photoshoot (why they couldn’t use a heated pool I have no idea) because she felt like complaining would show weakness to the judges. In Cycle 8 Cassandra got frostbite on her fingers from being forced to hold frozen ice cream for a photoshoot. In Cycle 11 Joslyn was sick on a CoverGirl commercial and actually threw up, then was eliminated because of her performance. I’m sure there are more examples but these are the ones I remember offhand. ANTM judges and producers don’t care about the girls’ health at all.
If they got sick and asked for accommodations, they were wrong. If they got sick and didn't ask for accommodations, they were wrong (if it hurt the shoot). It's all bad.
That's obviously because they didn't select the secret third Top Model option of never be sick@@marymac3572 . Everyone involved in the production of this show should be embarrassed of themselves.
I think people frequently misunderstand migraines too. Its not just a bad headache, people with migraines can experiece nausea, dizziness, and horrible light sensitivity. The best solution is usually caffeine pills but I don't think somebody who doesn't get migraines would know that or carry caffeine pills. Jayla was sweet for trying to help but I can see why Bre didn't feel better. Also I could not imagine being surrounded by all those stage lights with a migraine. I'd probably fling myself off the top of the building
I've only had one migraine and everytime I stood upright I threw up from the pain. I literally slunk from the bed to the floor and crawled to the bathroom when I needed to to the bathroom. 3 full days of laid in the dark trying not to cry because it made it worse. Luckily I only got a couple of light flashes which were frightening
This comment is exactly it. I suffer from chronic migraines. They debilitate me. I’m throwing up, I have no balance, I have auras. It’s awful and I’m bed ridden. The fact that Bree pushed through that and looked so beautiful, I’m amazed. But also it worries me how this show constantly puts people’s health and wellbeing in danger
@@Nexibis I get them too which is why I felt the need to say something. I've definitely had people in my life think I could just take a Tylenol and get on with my life but they are debilitating. The fact that she was upright was impressive enough
This. Migraines can be full-on excruciatingly debilitating. I'm no stranger to tension headaches and always thought migraines were just "bad headaches" until I got my first one while at work. I ended up hiding and crying in a bathroom stall for almost 1.5 hours, head between my legs to block out the light in between bouts of vomiting. Extreme tunnel vision and "the stars" throwing off my equilibrium made it impossible to stand or sit upright. I understand that "the show must go on" when so many people are involved in a photoshoot, but if the crew/judges were really concerned, they could have done something to really help Bre before she ever stepped foot on set.
Why are these judges not being DRAGGED all across the internet on a daily basis for the years of torment that they did to so many girls? Like fr?! Edit: I don’t have Twitter and I was a little kid when the show was airing but I did watch it and it’s shocking to see now.
The worst was Rebecca Weinberg when she told Yaya her “intensity to prove her African-ness, sometimes it’s over-bearing.” Even back then I was like WTF did she just say? It was shocking even at the time.
I've been a CD for various brands over the past 20 years and am always screaming "YES, GIRL, EXACTLY" when you call Mr. Jay out for not DIRECTING. That was his ONE job and so rarely does he actually offer any commentary that's actually helpful to the models. I'm also glad to hear a photog point out how unnecessary almost everything about this show is and how poorly the models were always treated. You seem like a dream to work with. I love your content.
As a Pakistani, this photoshoot concept was just awful. The costumes looked sub par quality, and they did Jayla dirty with her styling. They gave her a Cleopatra wig (that has nothing to do with Bollywood), and they made her deliberately stand to the side. Moreover, according to Jayla herself, Nigel's wife sabotaged her in terms of direction, so she was not able to move freely. Moreover, I think that Bollywood is just related to North India, since South India has their own film industry. PS: I think that they made Nik look like Aishwarya Rai Bachan 😅
I thought the same thing when I saw Jayla's wig! Her costume was awful! By the way I love Aishwarya Rai Bachan, she's so beautiful and Nik looks just like her in this photo
Because pakistanis are also consumers of bollywood. And pakistanis know about our culture coz we were one country before (just like thw way we knoe pakistan's culture). @@colourless_soul
I think it's part of the NDA that is signed. They can't talk about any of it for a certain amount of time and if they do, it's a hefty lawsuit with a large dollar sum they'd have to pay.
They definitely set Jayla up for elimination with that photo shoot. One out of four girls gets pushed aside while the others are in the center with space to move. It was so transparent, I can't believe they thought they got away with it.
I love how he asked her “baby are you sick?” Just to tell her to shut up basically. I bet she wasn’t bringing it up herself so they told the stylist to make her talk about it and make her out to be a baby. Oh, and if it’s viral and she has a fever, there’s a very VERY high chance she’s contagious. Just before symptom onset and when a fever is present are the most contagious periods of most viral infections. After the fever subsides, your immune system has fought the virus, it’s just finishing the job.
Most blatant setup of an eliminated model ever on this show! I can't believe how differently I see this show now than I did when I first watched it! But it definitely helps explain the core distain I have towards Tyra nowadays!
This episode *really* shows how they’ll do anything to create drama, from targeting/antagonizing friendly gestures to blatantly setting up grounds for eliminating girls with bad photos (instead of levelling the playing field by choosing similar quality for all of them, we know they have good photos too) - and that’s saying something considering the majority of the show is like this… Oh Jayla 100% must’ve realized right then and there what they were doing, frankly probably even more girls do than we think.
I mean listen, as a gig worker (which models are) sometimes you have to work sick. You dont get sick days, you don’t show up for a job, you don’t get paid. I recently did a show where I got horrible vertigo and felt like I was going to pass out on stage. Such is the life of an independent contractor. Now that being said, this situation is still ridiculous. Because this is something Bre is in for 24 hours a day. She doesnt actually get a break from the show to recover as she needs to. And for everyone to be super dismissive of her feeling like crap and say "suck it up" was honestly disgusting. At least when I've worked feeling like crap everyone around me was supportive.
There’s no way whatsoever ANTM actually prepares any of the models for the real modeling world though, it’s all television. I’m pretty sure girls have come out to say modeling management companies actually avoid ANTM girls if anything.
I feel like all the girls knew what was up with that elimination. It was so blatant with Jayla’s blocking for the photoshoot being completely different than the other girls. So glad Bre didn’t take the bait.
I remember watching this as a kid and being like.... why the hell is Jayla the only person who's placed waaaay to the left in their photo?? Meanwhile all the others are dead center.
They chose those girls from hundreds of applicants and the first time they realize Bre is short is when she is already in the top4 😂 just antm logic. Eva was also short btw..
Ugh I’m having flashbacks to being pregnant. The fact that women are expected to function so often when they’re struggling to physically exist is disgusting.
You could not win if you were sick on the show. You either have to suck it up and deal with your illness while taking photos or you collapse while taking photos and they chastise you for not knowing your limits. WHICH ONE DO YOU WANT!
The real question should be... why didn't production give her something for the fever AND the migraine and just let it get to the point that one of the girls had to give her something... They just used it as a plot point and let it run its course... They've done stuff like that, like let a girl almost get hypothermia, not feed them so they're in a bad mood and fight each other...
“I know that you’re about to die but you have to shoot and smile with your eyes, because time is money” Then at judging, when Tyra finds out everyone’s been infected: “Bre if you are sick you have to stay home. You should’ve never came to panel. You’re eliminated”
Jayla looked crushed but also looked like she was trying to hold herself together. She was vilified by an uncaring production team for having a heart and trying to comfort a fellow model when at her worst, something that’s commendable in a competition setting. And I agree with you-she looked incredulous when they were razzing her for the sari thing. Poor Jayla-you walk out of that snake pit with your head held high, girl!
Getting flash backs to when my gymnastics coach told me “you need to go out there and give it your all! Then you can go home, curl up and die” LMAO I was 14 and had a flu and bronchitis - they should not even have let me compete 😅 if my parents would have known they’d have gone crazy (but I placed second and never told them I was sick, just came home and told everyone how awesome I did lmao, but I shouldn’t have been allowed, full stop. I could have made all the other kids sick too)
Wow, that's abuse, and it is important for parents to be aware of situations like this. I had a problem with a teacher who was pushy and verbally abusive. I found out, and all hell broke loose 😂
They clearly did Jayla dirty when choosing that picture for her so they had a reason to send her home that week. I am sure they skipped her photos where she’s in the front.
Something i don't think people notice at first is all those background models had to pose for every photoshoot and they all looked hot and miserable. I feel like they were kinda mistreated. They could've had them rotated out in shifts or something.
I hate how he asks if she’s sick and he goes I don’t want to hear it…like?? This show is wild. Benadryl alone can make you drowsy and then add onto it a fever?? Of course she’s extremely drowsy!!
Going along with her bad placement in the photo, you notice how all of the other girls have beautiful long wavy hair that blows in the wind, and then Jayla is in a tiny black bob. They clearly wanted her to go home here, from the way she was styled to the composition of her photo. She had no chance.
Apparently Bre can get taller by smashing the bones in her legs and extending them with braces. I’ve seen it done. She might end up hobbling in agony but it gets the job done! I’m positive Tyra & her panel would advocate this!! 👀
Knowing Tyra, Tyra would say " I was short for like a day. So I know how it feels to be looked down on and be ridiculed and belittled. But I overcame that and grew out of it."
They made it so obvious they wanted to get rid of Jayla during this photo shoot. All the other girls were in the centre of the picture, had more colourful outfits, better lighting and were made to be the centre of attention (the women around them were sitting down so the model stands out). Jayla was put to the side of the shot in a darker outfit, among other women her height (standing in more colourful outfits). I saw Jayla’s interview with Oliver Twixt on UA-cam and she said that Nigel’s wife was there on the photoshoot and made her stand to the side, even though Jayla objected, then she was punished for not standing out. 100% they wanted her gone.
I have always believed that Tyra was jealous of Nik during the season simply because Tyra was incapable of giving Nik a full complement on any of her photoshoots. Tyra would gush over how great all the other girls did but she was very tight-lipped on complimenting Nik on her fantastic photos.
This behavior is so crazy. The pandemic was awful, but the plus side is that my work no longer questions or makes you feel bad when you're sick. And I don't feel bad staying home if I'm sick or hurt. You have to prioritize you.
Bollywood is strictly an Indian thing, but it is popular in surrounding countries such as Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal etc because those countries at some point in their history used to be part of India
Migraines for me can make me have nosebleeds and i can lose vision in my eyes for a while. Movement, light, sound etc can make me feel sick. I often can't do anything with a migraine. Bre is a force - she needed rest, especially with a fever. She should have been in bed, with liquids, meds and soup! And she still was the most professional person on set. Loved the long exposure shot idea Jessica. It would have been better than a static set full of women who were all beautiful and could have been more fundamental to it than just background characters.
Bre handled this bs so well & yeah it definitely seemed like they tried to sabotage Jayla w/ that photo basically hiding her in the background. the benadryl gossip was so cringe I couldn't help but laugh like wtf..
I think once they saw they could frame this innocent Benadryl thing as being some kind of tactic , the producers actually did give her something to prolong her recovery. I wouldn't trust any of these stories and plot lines bc that's how low this show would actually stoop
Yes LOVE the fact that everyone is saying Bre needs to be professional and pretend she’s healthy but the judges are cursing and Tyra is asking Nigel why he’s horny. So professional. This show was the queen of double standards.
As always!!! A set up to fail. It's always a set up to fail. You had some concern with Bre-Jayla and Jayla has an amazing interview with Oliver Twixt. Jayla said that Bre DID CLARIFY that she willingly asked for the medicine but it was cut out. They were amicable throughout the whole show as you saw. She also said that Nigel's wife was on set and instructed her to not get in the way of the extras. She ALSO said that Miss J was chatting with her in a trailer but spun her words and Tyra went with "idk why I want to be here?" At panel, she was mentally exhausted after weeks of basically having to prove her case. She was OVER IT. Then Bre is pretty much still getting punished for all angles for the Granola Gate incident last episode. I would not be surprised if they instructed the go-see clients to rate her poorly. This cycle in particular had a trend of pairing "friends/enemies at bottom 2" too.
9:36 Sri lankan here. Bollywood films are super famous here but it's based in India, the northern part in particular Edit: ngl I'm embarrassed about Nigel
Not everyone gets drowsy from taking Benadryl. I actually have the opposite effect and it makes me super wired so I can’t take it for that reason. How was the other girl supposed to know it was gonna make her really drowsy. Obviously she has it as her medicine that she takes regularly, it doesn’t make her drowsy.
Fun fact: I googled how tall they were. 3 out of 4 of these girls, including Bre, were 5ft 8 and the other was 5ft 9. So we're talking like less than an inch and they keep going on about her being short. Like ma'am?
Its very telling when a girl starts this competition strong and confident and than later on looses her passion and Tyra has to say "does she even want to be here?" I mean, thats more question for Tyra, what did u do to that poor girl to stop her believing in herself?
With Jayla, not only did they have her off to the side, but she wasn’t in a sari. They put her in a dark sequin top while all the other girls were colorful. And she looked like Cleo Patra. They did her wrong.
The thing is that these girls that were young at the time wouldn’t know the difference between allergy and cold/fever medication. Some make you drowsy and some do not. I know Jayla didn’t have ill-intent. She just doesn’t know the side effects of diphenhydramine.
Bre is literally having accommodation issues in the UK because of the weather or something. Also, they didn’t think about the health insurance of the contestants?
It is just... so painfully obvious that they're trying to frame Jayla as a bad person. SO. PAINFULLY. OBVIOUS. They practically put her out of frame in the photoshoot to make her look bad in judging, and were clutching at STRAWS to try and make it seem like her sweet gesture was actually sabotaging her competition. Competition doesn't mean enemy. And the girls are fully aware of that, they reflect such good sportsmanship that the judges are obviously just pulling at everything they can to try and make drama. Its embarrassing.
This was the ‘short girls’ series. They were all shorter than the regular ‘model’. Also Tyra often did that ‘you’re shrinking’ thing to the girls. I don’t know why, it seemed to be something she said for no reason.
Hi Jessica, Bollywood is the "Hindi" film industry, it's exclusively located in Mumbai, India. India has multiple film industries that film in regional languages. Nigel being half Sri-Lankan means nothing in context to Bollywood, as Indian identity and Sri Lankan identity are completly different. It would be like saying, "this Hollywood photoshoot is special to me because my mum is German and I'm half German". All South Asian identities are unique, the way all European / White identities are unique. The photo shoot is also completly stereotyping, but that's another story.
The thing that gets me is that if bre was to not say anything and collapsed on set from being so sick, the judges STILL would have something to say. “As a model your health is important and you should’ve spoken up about being unwell”- I can just picture it!

I remember Joslyn's elimination being brutal. Just cold-hearted to the max. This show I tell ya. 🥺
If they got sick and asked for accommodations, they were wrong. If they got sick and didn't ask for accommodations, they were wrong (if it hurt the shoot). It's all bad.
Season one Adrian
@@ledwards273I was thinking of that too. She was shaking like a leaf and still had to work.
@@mycatisjudgingyou oof same thing has happened to me. It’s awful
They are. Tyra is the worst
It was accepted back then. Society wasn't as sensitive
They are 😂 where you been? Mr Jay turned on them all and gave the dirt too 😂😂
They have on Twitter already but I feel like it was enough lol
I thought she looked like Cleopatra and ancient Egypt styles, nothing to do with India.
Bollywood ain't related to Pakistan, why tf are YOU speaking?
Because pakistanis are also consumers of bollywood. And pakistanis know about our culture coz we were one country before (just like thw way we knoe pakistan's culture). @@colourless_soul
Honestly it's wild that nobody has been sued or gone to jail for the absolute nonsense they put these girls through.
Probably because of waivers
I think it's part of the NDA that is signed. They can't talk about any of it for a certain amount of time and if they do, it's a hefty lawsuit with a large dollar sum they'd have to pay.
There is a lot of on camera sexual harassment, assault, racial hostility, toxic workplace, reckless endangerment…
This episode *really* shows how they’ll do anything to create drama, from targeting/antagonizing friendly gestures to blatantly setting up grounds for eliminating girls with bad photos (instead of levelling the playing field by choosing similar quality for all of them, we know they have good photos too) - and that’s saying something considering the majority of the show is like this…
Oh Jayla 100% must’ve realized right then and there what they were doing, frankly probably even more girls do than we think.
9:33 Nope. ‘Bollywood’ is restricted to the Hindi language based movie industry in Bombay/Mumbai. Anything apart from that has its separate identity.
Exactly! That reminds me of eliminating a girl because she looks "old" even though she's like in the top 6 already. They can't be serious.
From what I remember, Jayla mentioned in an Oliver Twixt interview that Bre got attacked constantly for being too short
Jayla is a lovely, caring friend. I hope Bre and Jayla are still friends.
As someone with several chronic illnesses the "pretend you're healthy" hit in a different way 😂
Ugh I’m having flashbacks to being pregnant.
“I know that you’re about to die but you have to shoot and smile with your eyes, because time is money”
Then at judging, when Tyra finds out everyone’s been infected:
“Bre if you are sick you have to stay home. You should’ve never came to panel. You’re eliminated”
People pretending to be healthy at work is one of the contributing factors to the pandemic spread
The literal nerve of the judges to blame her condition on medicine rather than her SICKNESS, I’m so surprised they haven’t gotten any lawsuits.
They sabotaged Jayla to the MAX! They couldn't have made it more obvious.
They were setting Jayla up- all the girls were placed in the center except for Jayla. Not surprised she got lost within the extras.
Your commentary and those spectacular bangs are the silver lining in all this cruelty! "Is it money?" that was iconic! 🤣
11:49 Sari is a timeless fashion. It doesn’t need updating.
P.S. They weren’t even taught to drape so they were being set up to fail like always.
Nigel's mom actually taught them to drape a sari earlier in the episode
Saris are beautiful clothing
Well, this confirms that Tyra "chooses" the photos and not anyone else 😏
When the contestants are more worried about their competitor than the actual people that are supposed to look after her health in this environment.
Bre is definetly the survivor of this cycle 💪i respect her so much for how she handled the competition
They clearly did Jayla dirty when choosing that picture for her so they had a reason to send her home that week. I am sure they skipped her photos where she’s in the front.
'Top models are not short'.....Kate Moss has entered the chat
Something i don't think people notice at first is all those background models had to pose for every photoshoot and they all looked hot and miserable. I feel like they were kinda mistreated. They could've had them rotated out in shifts or something.
I hate how he asks if she’s sick and he goes I don’t want to hear it…like?? This show is wild. Benadryl alone can make you drowsy and then add onto it a fever?? Of course she’s extremely drowsy!!
The more that I watch this show with you the more I’m like…”Why did we watch this? It’s horrible!” 😢 But they know drama sells!
"pretend to be healthy" hits different in a post-covid world 💀
Going along with her bad placement in the photo, you notice how all of the other girls have beautiful long wavy hair that blows in the wind, and then Jayla is in a tiny black bob. They clearly wanted her to go home here, from the way she was styled to the composition of her photo. She had no chance.
"You were vivacious. What happened?" Uhhh, you have been beating these girls down for weeks. What do you MEAN?
I still don’t know what they saw with Nicole. Even Ms. Jay was confused each time they praised her. Nigel is a predator
I agree
Apparently Bre can get taller by smashing the bones in her legs and extending them with braces. I’ve seen it done. She might end up hobbling in agony but it gets the job done!
I’m positive Tyra & her panel would advocate this!! 👀
Knowing Tyra, Tyra would say " I was short for like a day. So I know how it feels to be looked down on and be ridiculed and belittled. But I overcame that and grew out of it."
@@h1rambab3 brilliant! 🤣
Bre did amazingly well with a fever, migraines, and being double-dosed with diphenhydramine (the active ingrendient in Benadryl and Tylenol PM).
When I realized who that side eye was directed at, I was on the floor!
I have always believed that Tyra was jealous of Nik during the season simply because Tyra was incapable of giving Nik a full complement on any of her photoshoots. Tyra would gush over how great all the other girls did but she was very tight-lipped on complimenting Nik on her fantastic photos.
Nik was robbed, she had the best photo, she also was robbed of the winning that season
Agreed. Nic should have won
Thank you for exposing this show that I use to love so dearly in my 20s! They really were dirty and low.
This behavior is so crazy. The pandemic was awful, but the plus side is that my work no longer questions or makes you feel bad when you're sick. And I don't feel bad staying home if I'm sick or hurt. You have to prioritize you.
Jaylas extra models were standing, other girls extras were lower down.
Not fair!
Gaslighting and being made to work while ill? Isn’t that the American Dream lol
Bre handled this bs so well & yeah it definitely seemed like they tried to sabotage Jayla w/ that photo basically hiding her in the background.
the benadryl gossip was so cringe I couldn't help but laugh like wtf..
i always love it when you react to antm
"Are you sick?"
She responds then he says "i dont want to hear it". Sir why did you ask if you dont want to hear her response? Haha my goodness
Okay but if top models aren’t short why did they let her in the competition in the first place like wtf
This show makes me feel instant nausea 😔 Will I continue to watch your reactions? Absolutely
I think once they saw they could frame this innocent Benadryl thing as being some kind of tactic , the producers actually did give her something to prolong her recovery. I wouldn't trust any of these stories and plot lines bc that's how low this show would actually stoop
"Are you sick?"
"Well, actually--"
"I don't wanna hear it."
THEN WHY'D YOU ASK??? lmao wtf
😂😂😂😂😂
She ALSO said that Miss J was chatting with her in a trailer but spun her words and Tyra went with "idk why I want to be here?"
At panel, she was mentally exhausted after weeks of basically having to prove her case.
Bollywood films are super famous here but it's based in India, the northern part in particular
Edit: ngl I'm embarrassed about Nigel
Jayla did a kind thing and got trashed. This show is awful sometimes lol
My question is why tf Bre had to rely on the kindness of Jayla for medication, the production should provide all medical care needed.
ANTM makes me sick 😂🤢
6:33 The poses are less ‘Bollywood’ and more Indian Classical Dance. Also, the hands crowd the movement and make it chaotic.
"I think everyone was on Benadryl in this photoshoot" -Jessica
Im so dead hahahahahha
Miss J was always right, he knew Nicole was not the best 😅
I want to see Jessica and Luxeria to react to an ANTM Cycle.
Fun fact: I googled how tall they were. 3 out of 4 of these girls, including Bre, were 5ft 8 and the other was 5ft 9. So we're talking like less than an inch and they keep going on about her being short. Like ma'am?
*”I feel like everyone took a Benadryl for this photo shoot.”*
😂 Yea, I forgot how boring this one was.
This setup looks like the most awkward family picture session.
They shouldn’t have cast her if she is “too short.” Ridiculous
Holy crap, every sentence Tyra and most of the judges say is demeaning and unhealthy. Screw them.
Its very telling when a girl starts this competition strong and confident and than later on looses her passion and Tyra has to say "does she even want to be here?"
I mean, thats more question for Tyra, what did u do to that poor girl to stop her believing in herself?
With Jayla, not only did they have her off to the side, but she wasn’t in a sari. They put her in a dark sequin top while all the other girls were colorful. And she looked like Cleo Patra. They did her wrong.
That's exacty what I thought! Jayla was did so wrong
Jayla was set up to fail: Hideous outfit, bad production design and a crowded frame.
You'd think the other model gave Bree some downers for how much they're villainizing her
“that’s going to boost my immune system for sure”
is so funny for no reason
This was the ‘short girls’ series. They were all shorter than the regular ‘model’.
Also Tyra often did that ‘you’re shrinking’ thing to the girls. I don’t know why, it seemed to be something she said for no reason.
Watching this with a splitting migraine, high fever, and about to cough my lungs up. I'm close to tears looking at how they treat Bre...
Hi Jessica,
Bollywood is the "Hindi" film industry, it's exclusively located in Mumbai, India.
I need Jessica to redo this photoshoot with her ideas. I think it would be freaking amazing!!! So shameful how they did Bre this entire day...😢
