Walking the River Lea | Hertford to Harpenden

  • The Lea Valley Walk is an 84km trail from Limehouse in East London to Luton, following the course of the River Lea or Lee for most of its length. Whilst it finishes close to the source of the Lee, it doesn't visit the river's confluence with the Thames, and so I've modified it to include that.

    River Lea has its own mystique: no doubt about that. Joins up with Regents’ Canal I seem to remember. Familiar with latter having lived in Primrose Hill for seven years.

    Must be good in the summer. River walks are usually risky in winter. I watched one guy do a winter river walk and he ended up walking up to his knees through water as there was no other way.

    Did this in reverse in 2020 on the day before the first lockdown. It was quite a few months before we could finally reach Limehouse.
