Heh, I was listening to the OST of war2 at work one day and when one colleague asked me to go to lunch together i said 'aye aye captn'. Then during lunch i kept thinking how he looks like a peon.
I always loved how brutal some units sounded, like this knight for example or ogres, elf voices on the other hand were contrastically soft and polite. And this bloodlust sound is so aggressive and intimidating!
The voice acting of the unit's, mission briefing and the soundtrack is divine. The mission briefing in particular is God whomever did that get him back. :)
I used to take the humans start a random game then harvest the wood in a cube shape and build farms in front of it to seal it off cept for a tiny entrance. Then i transformed everything into sheep and chased those sheep on the map for hours to get them all to go into the little place i builed for them, the ideas i had as a kid...
Youre too young to tell whats the best. W1 is the best of course... but maybe Im nostalgia blinded too! And yes the controls are shit, but at those times...
for this level I started by kamikazeeing my footman with my ships close behind to shoot at the towers and catapults while they were distracted by the footmen, that took out the catapults and towers, then I started spamming watch towers as soon as I landed, then once the dragons started slowing down and I had enough time to make a gryphon aviary, then I sent my gryphon army straight to the portal (ignoring the base to the right and all the ships) using a gnomish flying machine to make the death knights use their mana up... then I won
Fun little story of a Christmas when I was but 12. I had begged my mom for this game, I knew she got it for me because I could tell the box that was wrapped under the tree was it. SOO... Every night I would surgically open one end, slide the box out, get the cd and stay up late playing it. Before going to bed, I would put it back and re-tape it shut. Did this for 3 weeks lol. I was still pleased as punch on Christmas Day because then I didn't have to keep it a secret anymore. 😇 I miss my childhood.
i was nine (2006) before i was introduced to this game, and damn i still love it to this date. This is far better than many newer games and brings me back to my childhood and the simple time without my daughter and my girlfriend.
I LOVE this game! I miss it so much! It taught me to manage resources. Great action, great music, grat style. Developers should make some version for present versions of operational systems, but preserving the original style and even using the same soundtracks and sound effects in most part of a remake of the game. A classic of classics.

Brings me back to being a kid. Amazing how far things progressed graphically to modern day RTS games like AoE with all the fancy 3D animations and massive miniature armies.
The sayings of almost everyone were much better on WarCraft2 rather than WarCraft3. The knights sounded far more menacing and as if they actually served me. The elves, servants, wizards etc. Sounded more enthusiastic, you could sense the stakes were high from the tone in their voices.
Factoid: dwarves can blow up boulders. To get to that gold mine north of the original town, use 3-4 of them to demolish the terrain. This gives you access to the gold mine just above the town.
The strategy guides I read said that the dragons are watching for smoke and for that reason, you should avoid destroying any buildings until you have sufficient defenses against them. But that's kind of hard, considering there are FREAKIN' CANNON TOWERS on the shore!
That’s an idea for adding to Warcraft 4... !!! But only if it’ll be made by the real Blizzard. Also more playable races and more heros! lol would be Great but it’s pushing it to expect that Game. at least we got Warcraft 3 though. That is amazing Game.

And I wondered how did you not gain levels on archers at the begining of mission - that's the moust important thing when you are still attacked by dragons
+Busthy Gaming well back then devs wasn't as lazy as today (or at least most of them). Now they focus more on "graphics" then gameplay....which makes me very sad when I think about how good the games were much better back then.. :/
From what I remember, Blizzard didn't have the technology at the time to properly show the deactivation of the portal in the game engine. Therefore, the ending cinematic portrayed the humans deactivating the gate from Azeroth. In Beyond the Dark Portal, they had to reactivate it to send an expedition against the Orcs. The expedition had to sever the portal rift from Outlands when it was imploding to prevent the explosion from affecting Azeroth as well. The physical gate wasn't destroyed.
yeah I loved w3 - thought it had incredible tactics and storyline. but the art style was painfully cartoony and hasn't aged well at all. this game won that category

The sound effects in this game is fucking top tier. Weather it’s the sound of troll’s axe, the units death sound, the spells casting… not to mention the music. Best sound design all round out of any Warcraft Game. The atmosphere they created in this game was truly special and unparalleled by any other game IMO. Only other Game that comes close would be Starcraft, also made by Blizzard in around the same era.
Epic fail. This game is a shameless ripoff of WoW. I like indie games with this pixel artsy thing going on, but should be more original. Looks kind of fun but maybe too high difficulty level and difficult controls to remember. Somebody should contact these guys and tell then to patch it with simplified controls and change those ripoff characters to be more unique.

Warcraft born as a strategy game in real time with Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, Warcraft II (the one you see) with its expansions packs. Finally Blizzard created Warcraft III and their expansion. WoW born from these games and continues its history and universe.
I remember installing this at school back in 1997 and playing it with other students. In the meantime someone had to be on guard making sure the teacher didn't show up. The pc's were installed clean every day using norton ghost, but i always carried the disks to reinstall the game as well.
Oh my gosh, I played this game sooooo much. So nostalgic to see some gameplay again, but man those voices whenever you click on them! My goodness, I think I must have muted those at the time! ha ha.

"When work smart not hard" is so next level that takes away all the fun
Doing this the first attempt you could not know all that. But yeah took me two tries when I realized the importance of guard towers.

The buildings explode. The arrows are bomb arrows.
