    The River once ran through the REz in Salt RIver and Lehi when i was a kid in the 80's. I used to take walks with my parents down there and now my grand kids do not have that luxury. It is now referred to as no mans land where many homeless ppl camp out and live at the dry river bottom. Our river the Verde River still runs but alot of ppl trespass into our sacred land and leave behind trash and beer cans. Sometimes our own ppl have no respect for the land. I wish things didn't change I wish it was how it used to be but its 2016 and we are living in modern times where many of us are distracted and lost in the new age. I have much respect for those who still speak and live by our culture and tradition. I have much respect for my Dad who is one of those ppl who does all he can to help keep it alive and strong. For those of us who are uneducated in our culture and still learning still engaged and willing to keep our eyes and ears open it is more important now than ever. We are put down and many people see us as drunks and drug addicts and gangsters. It is so important we teach our young to take that as motivation to prove them wrong. Don't become what they say we are. Be who we are meant to be. These are hard times we have suffered severely and a lot of the history is not included in this documentary. The hardships the way we were denied our own land and water. How our people were separated by the Mexican border. Oodham live in Mexico to this day and there is issues with that many people do not know that. So immigration is a touchy subject. When we talk about the history and how our people were mistreated and families broken apart and children taken to boarding schools to be taught civilization basically the killing of our identity as Oodham or whatever tribe u come from and those who were killed and poisoned and how the deconstruction is on going today; it is not to create hate. Yes it should make u angry as Oodham (People) yes. But use that anger as fuel to try harder and to never give up hope that we will one day understand and hold on tightly to what we have left and come together in UNITY. TO all my people ONE Nation Much Love and Respect to all of you. Keep ya heads up we are still here we are not Huhugam yet (those who have gone before us) We are the Huhugam we are still here the descendants. Our people live and are not extinct so we must not allow the cultural genocide to happen. Remember who you are and be proud. Aho All my Relations

      I am proud and I am so glad to have read this. I am Gila River Pima- I am a film maker and I have been searching for some history + custom of our people. This is the first of many videos book and stories about Pima. I need to come and take a visit- bring my family. I have so many questions and I feel you about the lost generation in our people. I would love for my people here near the Red River would see our culture and embrace it, some of us do and many of us have reason why to let go. Please reach out to me- Cayn Whitecloud King II

      This comment touched my heart it's a shame what technology has done to your people and the whole world in general. We could be living in more simple times but we are forced to live with the way time moves. Great respect to you and i hope you're doing well my friend.

    😢 I’m part Pima from Salt River, it makes me so sad that our traditional way of farming has been stomped out. I am trying to learn all that I can about the old ways but it’s so hard because not much is remembered anymore 😭

      I'm 7/8 Pima who grew up in California. After my father passed way, I finally feel an urgency to learn about our people to get the answers to some of the questions I have had about my natural gifts. of course, we got cheated, as do the "white man" is renowned for but in 2021 we have the opportunity to display the Modern Pima people and contribute to this great country as we are renown for.

    The little girl pushing the wagon at 3:33 is my Mom and her cousin, Harold. He passed away when he was 15. My mom is 83 years young today. The elder lady is my great great great Grandmother. We have a picture of my Mom and Harold in that wagon, with her older brother standing next to it. She said the people who made the film took it and sent it to them.

    I grew up in Komatke..Gila River. We grew up thirsty and with much disease because of this. We must do more as a community now. Let us become more educated and let this film never ever reflect us. With much hurt and shame how this left me. We are proud people. And we were scientists before this.

      I hear u makes me feel the same would be nice if we could simply go back to the way things used to be. Too many of our young people lost even some older people. Its' hard to keep the culture and language strong when we live in two worlds now. But it is still alive and important to keep it going little sister. Keep ya head up and stay strong and always proud of where u come from.

    I went to Utah in the 1980's by way of Parker, AZ. I was horrified at seeing huts/shacks and pure dryness. Oh yeah, the Parker Dam cut off the native American people from their water sources. I can't tell you how angry I felt and still am. Witnessing how our Government still to this day relocate tribes if it find's out there are valuable minerals on their land. It's disgusting. The Colorado river used to flow all the way to Tijuana... But was diverted and blocked... When someone says that reservations who put casino/gaming are greedy and should pay taxes they need to watch this and remember-.- Gets me all riled up

    Why did we have to wait 60 years...

    • @jewelskody1
      @jewelskody1 3 роки тому +1

      From what I heard and understood from this film was that the Government had to do the Congress/red tape stuff while also surveying the land to divvy up the land/water mess between the whites and the Pima to get water but while waiting the white's continued to farm and have all the modern equipment and flourished and that hurt the Pima people because they did not have the privilege of keeping up with the modern farm equipment because of the 60 years of nothing. Eventually they had to be taught to use the equipment correctly and in the mean time the Pima people became wood choppers to make ends meet this in turn caused the people to become indigent even after the water came the Pima People were told by the government to pay for the electricity from the Hoover Dam to run the water but the Pima People did not want to pay because they thought they were having to pay for the water. Also the Pima People had to take out loans to purchase the modern farm equipment. It's all frustrating to say the least...

    I’m Mexican and I thought I was mostly native Mayan plus some Spaniard, and Middle Eastern or Indian plus a tiny bit African because we all came from Africa. That’s about all I expected. :) I found out I’m from all over the world. I’m 43% from the Americas and that includes Pima. :) I’m so happy to learn about all my ancestors. American, Spaniard, French, Italian, Greek, Polish, German, Irish, English, Swiss, Slavic, Turkish, Romanian, Serbian, Persian, Tajikistan and all the stand around that country lol. And I’m 5% west African which covers some of the north, central, and south. I’m excited to learn!! I’ve always been a strong supporter of native peoples. I’ve been wanting to visit Native peoples on Mexico and native peoples in the US. 💕 Much respect.
    Also, #PresidentBernieSanders because he didn’t accept corporate bribes from JP Morgan Chase Bank so he was able to freely support the Native American protestors at the reckless pipeline projects unlike Hillary Clinton because she loves bribes aka non-Democracy.
