I have a picture of my mother from 1946, when she was 20 years old. The part in her hair is colored silver in a flared pattern, to accent her dark curls.
Im here from a reddit post where dudes were crapping on a woman on tiktok for saying hair color existed in the 50s. Instead of looking it up for themselves LOOOL
@@boybutchpatriot3477 exactly! Instead of taking an interesting dive in america's history, they instead called her a "woke feminist that wants to erase america's history and push narratives", calling her a "typical woman" that wont "let people think for themselves" lol.
It's fascinating that in the 80s, colors like this would have been considered a sign of delinquency. Here, they're high fashion, and now in the 2020s they're high fashion again.
uniquely colored hair rinses like these were actually somewhat popular from the late 50s to early 60s, so it sort of did catch on. but then fell out of favor during the hippie movement, and came back with punk in the mid 70s (gaining a lot of negative stigma at that point)
This ad in Britain was never mainstream hair coloring. No woman in 1956 would have blue, pink, green hair. It just wasn't done. I don't know what the narrative is pushing or why but more investigation needs to be taken as to who and why this is being pushed as what hair styles were like in the 1950's. If a girl in the 50's wore pink hair, they would be the weirdo in the crowd and everyone would gawk at her. No one wore colored hair in the 50's.
@@OnlyGoodMusic_ Because I did, I am 73. I looked at the teen magazines. My mother was a hairdresser. This never took off in America. If a woman had shown up in public with pink/hair she would have been laughed at. I don't know what the agenda is for someone to resurrect this ad and make it appear it was mainstream but there is an agenda as to why someone would do it.
Oh goodness never realized they wore un-natural colors even back then. The black and silver is pretty as some ppl naturally have beautiful salt and pepper hair. The greens and pinks are hideous just like today. Yikes 😬
Colorful hair even in the past!
These hairstyles look amazing!
The first pastel hair color
It's amazing! People nowadays think they're só innovative! But it's completely the other way around!
Actually we are, these we never popular or standard. And to this day they are still not that popular comparing to the natural hair colors.
They look great!
Stunning ✨

Amazing! I love colorful hair!
The last style is so lovely! Combining classic Victorian style with a flash of modern colour ❤️

Purple hair existed even before ww1

I think I found out hair dye was old by reading Archie comics
Hair color was has been around forever. Like when powdering your hair was the only way to wash it they dyed the power so you would get pink hair
The Egyptians used henna and kohl, etc.

Да сейчас бы в самый раз
The cycle of fashion.
In 2023 it's a sign of who to avoid.
More like til tok fads nowadays for broke young adults. 😘
I wouldn't call danger hair high fashion. If the people who dyed their hair today acted like these ladies that might not be the case, however.
This is so cool and so beautiful!
Why did it not catch on?
The youths today rocking are these old hairstyles.

Love it!!❤
Colored hair is so fun and beautiful, I don't care whatever ya'll say, it's not your body.
All things old are new again.
Pink short hair, looked like the twins Haley Mills played in The Parent Trap. The redhead'sstyle at the end was the pretiest for me.
Watching in 2023
Narrator sounds suspiciously like Trey Parker doing a character.
The Narrator is Tim Turner
“Nobody dyed their hair those colors back then!”
Right.

@@c.mckenzie2155 I asked my grandmother who was born in 1938 and she told me that this was quite popular during those years in the UK.
@@OnlyGoodMusic_ She may be right about the UK but it was definitely a short lived trend that never became mainstream.

My mom attempted this in the sixties...didn't work lol she had orange hair. My uncle's called it their sunset
