We're lucky if a Pop band can tell any kind of story (generally, other than 'I love you'...) But these guys set the entire scene as musical Shakespeares ~not onstage, but the very countryside, the entire village, townspeople, weather, traffic, fireman, bankers, street vendors, chippie, constable, ~by God you could count the freckles on a young girl's cheek in the lyrics of the Beatles.

Mozart wrote a symphony at 8. An opera at 12. That being said, Penny Lane is an amazing piece of music. Probably the fabs best. And I think Bach would have loved that walking bass line and trumpet solo.

+Jessica Torres Flores Hola Ms. Flores.

    Again, very well done throughout.
Some funny stuff going on in the orchestra near the beginning on what should be a C#m7 chord on 'photographs'. In the subsequent verses all is ok at that juncture.

  • @VeggiePopper

This is how Paul should play his tours instead of playing samples in a keyboard synth for the orchestrated parts.
I mean, his rock band IS amazing, but adding a true orchestra would make it PERFECT.

I agree, I wish the The Beatles had reunited and played with the Boston Pops, when Arthur Fiedler proposed that they get together to play these songs. It would have been an awesome event.

Fica mais do que claro porque os Beatles pararem de fazer shows ao vivo em 1966. A maioria das músicas deles seriam impossíveis de serem executadas ao vivo na quela época da mesma forma que foram gravadas em estúdio .

The overwhelming problem with attempting such a massive undertaking as reproducing a piece of Beatles music is the simple fact of its almost complete familiarity by such a large portion of the world. As Robin Williams once remarked concerning Beatles music, "It has become a part of our DNA!"
For someone who grew up with them while they were together, as I did, any inconsistency just jumps out at you and that is why taking on such iconic music is extremely problematic at best.
For those who aren't quite so soaked in their recordings this performance adds an additional dimension to the music but for me there's a certain annoyance which is sadly unavoidable. Personally speaking, "Penny Lane" is the quintessential Beatles song. For me, it's THE Masterpiece among masterpieces so what bothers me about this performance is the lead vocalists phrasing. It's just plain wrong. Those who have internalized this song since it was released in 1967 know exactly what I mean when they hear this.
The absolute worst part was that dissonant ending chord on the organ at the end at 2:50. That was a big screw up and simply did NOT belong there. It was painful to hear.
Some might read this and think that I would give this a "Thumbs down" but actually I'm happily giving it a "Thumbs Up" because I DO believe that it will turn some more people on to the genius of the Beatles music when they hear it presented like this.
For those who read this and say, Oh geez, give me as break, well... reading what I wrote here gives you a small idea of the bands impact . They were that influential and they touched us that deeply.

I disagree. I LIKE different versions of Beatles tunes. Covers of MacCartney songs, especially, sound better when somebody else is on vocals. It is not that he's a BAD vocalist. It is that there are so many who are better. And he tends to rely on a the vocals to carry the song. That is why orchestral arrangements of his songs, as compared to Lennon's, tend to fall flat. And this fell a bit flat, in my opinion. And, because, as you noted. the vocalist isn't very good.

I wonder what the musicians or other classical musicians actually think of this and other Beatles songs. Do they laugh at them?

    • @MICKEYISLOWD
      @MICKEYISLOWD 4 роки тому

They are in awe of them. Just the invention and the sublime melodies. The very highest qualified classical musicians cannot write at this level. The Beatles are just like Mozart only in the 20th century. You will never see the likes of them again.
