Today my guest is Sebastian Ramirez:
"My name is Sebastian Ramirez. I was born in Medellin in Colombia 31 years ago. My interest in Norway starts back in 2015 when Norway played a crucial role during the negotiations of the Colombian peace agreement with the left revolutionary group FARC-EP. Since then, the idea of studying a master’s degree in this country started to grow, and two years ago, it led me to move in Drammen. These two years have been a mixed bag of emotions; on the one hand, the cultural shock and the cold weather at the beginning were a tough challenge, on the other hand, the peace and the natural beauty of this country made me feel comfortable and safe. Nowadays, I like my way of life. I have good friends that make my time enjoyable, even when it is cold and dark.
I left Colombia tired of the systematic corruption and long-spread inequality. Norway has given me a valuable lesson about how by doing things in the right way, it is possible to develop a good society even when the natural conditions represent a significant challenge by itself. The differences between Colombia and Norway are massive. However, now I am trying to join the best of these two countries with a productive project. This project aims to empower the Colombia coffee farmers helping them to trade their products on the Norwegian market under a fair trade scheme that allows them to gain more money for the sales of their high-quality coffee."
