The "usurper dies at the hands of the knight" and the one with the duke not being home both caught me out. The solution is a lot darker than you might think at first.
I was really looking forward to this game, but by the end I was using an FAQ to bypass someone of the bigger leaps in logic. There's nothing to suggest the maid and the knight even like each other (other than the title), so it's easy to waste time trying to set them up together before going after for the monarchs. Maybe that's just my fault, but I feel a sequel that irons out issues like this would make for a much more enjoyable game.
Butler steals gun, duchess sees theft and reports to detective but the butler will just hide the gun if confronted by the detective, so the duchess confronts the detective and gets herself killed, the detective then concludes the butler did it and makes the arrest. Duke was not used in any of the scenes so it's presumed he was not home the whole time, hence meeting the criteria "but the duke isn't home"

It just means you shouldn't use the Duke character in the solution.

Honestly mini hamlet was my breaking point, did everything outside of that one

It’s the same but you change the hypnosis from queen to baron. And at the end you switch who is executed
