2:15 fun fact, he is megatron in the English dub of energon (then gets recolored and becomes galavatron) but in the Japanese original he is actually galvatron and the recolor is just a recolor and no name change (which the Japanese version aligning with Armada makes it so Megatron is megatron in armada then dies and gets resurrected as galvatron in energon. However, in the English version of both, megatron starts as himself, gets recolored and changed to galvatron, dies, gets resurrected in energon as megatron again, then gets recolored AGAIN, and is named galvatron AGAIN)
According to TFWiki, someone asked one of the showrunners why they didn't rename Megatron Galvatron when he very clearly was visually based on Galvatron. Apparently it was because at the time Hasbro was touchy about protecting their trademarks*, so they insisted on keeping him Megatron for marketability and copyright reasons.
*That's why a lot of Transformers will specify their alignment on their packaging, because ofc they can't trademark the name "Soundwave" for a character, but "Decepticon Soundwave", that's fair game. Also why some names may be common words that are intentionally misspelled, same deal

@@Shi.f.tA common thing was using words that were spelled with an '-er' and changing it to an '-or' for a character's name (ScattORshot, TankOR, GrindOR, BantOR).
Hasbro can release this as the SG Megatron with changing the head and colors.
Yeah hes an upgrade of Armada Megatron.
In the original Japanese dub he is just called Galvatron, since Armada Galvatron was just called Super Megatron or something.
In English, since they used Galvatron already they just decided to use a more recognised name.
I think he becomes Galvatron with the same body but in G1 ish colors
The original plan for the English dubs of Armada and Energon was for them to also stick with Megatron through all of Armada and switch to Galvatron for Energon as the Japanese language versions did, but Hasbro's marketing team decided that playing hot potato with the names would be better for keeping copyrights/trademarks renewed.
It makes more sense that he’s called Galvatron from the start of Superlink (Energon), as is design actually closely resembles G1 Galvatron, three-point crown and all.
His Super Energon upgrade even gives him a more G1 accurate purple color scheme!

I don't care the posts on the neon green cannons are short, those were permanently mounted on the shoulders of the original figure so IF i get one I'd never take them off there unless i want to change their position

I actually have the original Leader Class Energon Megatron somewhere in storage. I'm thinking about getting the updated Energon Megatron. Hopefully there will be more Legacy Energon figures like Scorponok or Landmine.
Megs energon looks good
All I remember about Energon Megs is that he spent most of the series laughing hysterically.
Energon Megatron was savage and sadistic. For absorbing Unicron's essence and energon to be reanimated with a new form after spending decades as an Armada corpse inside Unicron. First Megatron beat Scorponok to death, humiliated him and infected him with the Decepticon virus. Megatron tortured an Alpha Q controlled Starscream and gave him a taste of his corruption touch. Also gravely injured Alpha Q and Optimus quite a few times. The worst was when Energon Megatron infected Inferno with his touch to become a Decepticon but Inferno valiantly chose suicide into the Alpha Q sun than to serve Megatron. And of course the extermination of both Shockblast and Six Shot brothers by Megatron first getting punched by a Megatron controlled Unicron and the other stomp splattered by a giant Megatron/Galvatron powered up by super Energon.

I got this guy a couple weeks ago. It might just be my copy, but aside from the stumpy gun posts (those things fall out if you look at them funny) mine doesn't tab together very well in alt mode. His legs like to pop out of place while just holding it. He's got a great robot mode, though.
Even though I own all three American versions of the original figure, I just now noticed that the front of the alt mode looks like the Axalon from Beast Wars.
So the irony is that when he did the Unicron Trilogies obligatory upgrade to Galvatron, the colour scheme is G1 Galvatron. I think the Titans Return Galvatron Figure's star fighter mode was a reference to this mold
I just got mine in the mail today from BBTS! I liked the looks of him so I figured why not? I always have room for another cool core class!

It reminds me of the Mcdonald's Energon Megatron I had when I was kid. And I had no idea what was a Transformers back then and just realized it was one when I was way older.
Great video. I was so glad to find one of these at my local Target. This was a great core class representation.
I did want the extra joint that was molded in to the wing so I went t ahead and added it in a new design as well as making the wings slightly longer. I made the two shoulder weapons a bit bigger as well. All my upgrades are bloosh comparable as well. 😂

I want an updated Energon Megatron, but I want him at leader class. I know Hasbro's using this core-Megs to test the waters for Energon. They don't know how well Energon characters will sell, so they view a core class as being a low-risk experiment. It's the same situation with that rumored core class Beast Machines Cheetor that's supposed to come out in March-April.

Superlink Galvatron is my favourite version of the character, no more tough but caring commander of the decepticons, Galvatron was fun as villain, did a bit mind breaking with his troops and seemed pretty much insane. Sure he had moments when his old presonality shined but it was like 4-5 moments in whole show. Now time for commander class, huge wings, proper mini tank, blast effects, his sword from first episodes and maybe energon star.
Yes this is an upgraded Megatron. In Armada he was called Galvatron and despite that for the next series he went back to being Megatron.
This is his initial look after revived as he was fused inside Unicron and his goal throughout the show was to gain control of him since he was dormant. He would later get a purple color scheme and once again assume the name Galvatron after submersing himself in super energon.
This is so cool for just a legacy transformer, Hasbro's been getting back into making great figures. Great review as always :)

That's because the original SG Megs was a repaint of Energon Megatron.

As much as people like to dump on energon, you cant deny it had some of the best designs for the characters, especially Megs. To this day this is still one of m favourite looks for him.
Maybe some, but Optimus and Hotshot were downgrades.
As far as scale goes, I saw a pretty cool picture someone took with him in Haslab Unicron's hand. That's one figure he scales excellently with!

Got him shortly after Christmas, and while he's not perfect, I always liked the Energon Megs design. For a little desktop version of him, I like him quite a bit.
Since a third party did energon Optimus, im sure there will be a Energon Megatron soon

You're not the only one to have never watched Energon, it is notorious among fans.
I think Megatron was the best part of Energon, that and Starscreams ghost, though he certainly looked better when he upgraded into Galvatron. You are right that he is just Armada Megs only different. I remember his rebirth scene all to well. He spends most of the early episodes fused to the walls inside Unicron, until someone does something that makes him super pissed and he awakens in his new form.
So need an updated full size version of this form.
Yeah, there's like three points where the show could've ended yet kept going. The plot device driving the show, Unicron gets taken out 38 episodes into a 52 episode show so gotta pad that shit out!
Cybertron would be better about this luckily.

Transformers Energon Megatron is an upgraded version of Armada Megatron. I did not see the entire Transformers Energon series.
Yes after Megatron's corpse and weak spark was leeching off energon from within Unicron in secret. Scorponok with aim to mock Megatron's legacy powered up Megatron's spark by stabbing right through his remains with a knockoff sword of his. Megatron's Armada scraps glowed and Energon Megatron was born looking Unicronish and G1 Galvatron.
He's preciously terrifying.

I finally got the core class energon Megatron today at my local target today I got two of them I'm finally happy that I got it this is a good figure
I mean hopefully they will make a bigger model of him because at some point were getting a studio series bumblebee movie voyager leader? I dont remember i believe it was voyager class rhough but we are getting an upscaled version of the bumblebee studio series core class shockwave
tl;dr he's Megatron not Galavatron (comes later) because trademark. He's also Armada Megs rebuilt after he gets eaten by Unicron and they disappear for a decade. What's funny is if they make a leader class of Energon Galvatron, then it'd be accurate to the show since Galvatron goes giant towards the end. For all Energon's faults, it does have some wild concepts and genocide.
Who ate who is the question. Megatron's Armada corpse was leeching energon from Unicron in secret. Sporponok made the mistake to stab Megatron's feeble spark with one of his knockoff swords and Megatron reactivated and got a new body in the image of Unicron or as we know G1 Galvatron. By the end of the Energon series Megatron had sapped Unicron completely.
@@j.b.6780 Unicron ate Megatron, but UT Megatron became a parasite that absorbed Unicron's power until Cybertron when he returned wearing his armor. Like eating a tapeworm that eventually goes super saiyan.

The one thing that bothered me about the original Energon Megatron/Galvatron mold was that the ratcheting on his hips meant either he could stand with absolutely straight legs like a G1 brick or, if you went out exactly one click out on the ratchets, his legs would be spread awkwardly wide. I would rather have just had a stiffer joint without ratcheting than a ratcheted joint that can't settle at an aesthetically pleasing angle.

Fun as a core class, rather Star Warsy looking in shuttle mode. I had the original Energon toy for tyhis guy and yeah, it was basically the same thing except for the cockpit not being hollow on the bottom/back and the kneecaps being separate to fold more directly onto the lower legs to look like engine exhausts. Very lame at the bigger price point, Core Class was absolutely the right choice for this guy.
Take that mold make it commander class and you have thunderwing!!!!!

I was a strong proponent of this being the Tank Sword with a robot mode and a real full size figure coming next year. But he is a cute lil' tyrant.

The one I got, one of his forearms will not stay on the ball joint. Keeps falling off whenever I move it. Kind of sucks.
Also, you didn’t miss anything when it comes to Energon. It was kind of awful.

@emgo316 you don't need to worry about missing out on tf energon it was a awful show sloppy animation poor plot lines beast wars a tv show 8 years prior to that had better animation I watched most of the first season and tapped out after that. I almost gave up on transformers until animated came out and made up for the unicron trology

I like him. I'm not a fan of the show itself because the animation is so wonky. Like, iirc the humans are animated in like 2D, as if they're hand drawn, but then the Transformers themselves are in 3D, and for some reason their mouths are 2D. Like, the Transformers don't look like they belong in that universe. I also don't like the way they move. And this *might* be a hot take(or cold if many people have said it), but I think Beast Wars looks better than both Energon and Cybertron, which is sad cause it's nearly a decade older. But at least EVERYTHING in BW looks like it's animated in one particular dimension(3D), and the character movements are objectively better. I still like this design though. And hopefully, if they make a figure of Energon Optimus, core or otherwise, they fix those proportions, cause Energon Optimus has some truly WONKY proportions. Like, he looks like a cube with thin sticks as limbs lol.

In general, while I did grow up calling Energon Megatron “Megatron”, I refuse to call him such at this point; I would call this “Galvatron”, and the recolored Megatron in Armada “Megatron”.
Why I would call this Galvatron, and not Megatron:
1. Right off the bat, he is called such in the Japanese version, and I can see why.
2. He looks a heck of a lot like G1 Galvatron.
3. In Armada, the lavender coloring was more of a supercharged version, as opposed to flat-out rebirth or reformatting.
So yeah, to me, Armada “Galvatron” is still Megatron, and Energon “Megatron” is Galvatron, like in the Japanese dubs.

Don't watch the show. It's awful. If you see the next in the "Unicron Trilogy" See if you can get the subtitled Galaxy Force. It's much better. IMHO it's not connected to Armada/Energon.
Armada Megatron became Armada Galvatron who later went back to Megatron in Energon and Galaxy Force and got upgraded each time.
I'm going to wait for Energon Galvatron since the colors are better.
