  • I’m back with Day 2’s incredible gardens! We launched into the day at the Rhododendron Species Garden. From there we visited a private home showcasing the owners love for Italy. Next was an incredibly special tour… visiting the garden of Tahoma Flora’s Camille Paulsen! Finally, we wrapped up the day with dinner at Lakewood Gardens. Not pictured… I won a trio of amazing plants from Little Prince! 🐸👑🌱
    I hope these gardens inspire you as much as they did me!

      They are STILL taking my breath away. I didn’t walk away from a single garden without inspiration. And now I’m home making a giant list of all my goals for my garden. 🤣

      Wasn’t it?!? Her use of texture was so good and there was also so much whimsy! She is a top notch gardener.

    You my dear killed it with this tour, don't know how you can top this but I would settle for more. Can't wait to see your back garden semi finished because as we all say gardeners are never done.😊

      Thank you so much! And little by little my garden is coming together. I may fall a bit short of my goals for this year, but it’s all incredible progress nonetheless. Also, I just published another video today and Dan Hinkley’s Windcliff garden will be next week. It was an INCREDIBLE tour! I’m still pinching myself.

    what a treat! Thank you for taking us with you. In June my husband and I traveled up to Tacoma from Sweet Home Oregon to visit the Rhody Garden to get inspiration from their stumpery. The back of our property is half wetland and the other half riparian woodland full of alders and fir stumps. We continue to cut or dig out blackberries as we plant native trees and shrubs with inspiration from our local forest trails. We have started to get more creative with stumpery style touches. The best part was after our visit my husband got on board! Two retired folks who lived our first 69 years on the coast have spent 7 years on a restoration project that has become a wonderful shared experience . You are such an inspiration. Because of you I sprayed my black metal park bench leaf green. My favorite project outcome this summer!

      Yes yes yes!!! I love that you came all the way up to get inspired! And now you have a beautiful restoration project (and awesome bench!) that you share with your husband. I’m so happy for you. You are living the dream!

    What a privilege that was, thank you Katie and thank you to the owners of these properties for allowing us to be a part of the tour. I’m a prairie transplant from BC and this feeds my soul. I have vivid memories of scenes reminiscent of the stumpery. What mountain is featured in Camille’s paradise? 🇨🇦👏🌸

    • @HelloGarden
      @HelloGarden  2 місяці тому +1

      It fed my soul too… and that’s a great question. It is what we call Mount Rainier. However, it was called Tahoma by our indigenous community which roughly translates to “the Mother of waters”… which I think is perfection. 💕

      I am right there with you and thank you for watching! At several points I felt overwhelmed by the beauty and creativity not only of the gardens but the other gardeners/writers/photographers with me on the trip. It was a joyous moment in time that I won’t forget.

    Well now I’m going to have to rethink my whole garden layout / design now. These gardens are fantastic. Thank you once again for bringing us along and I’m so glad you took some time out for yourself to breathe in the experience, it must have been a truly special multi-sensory explosion of an experience at every turn.
    “To participate in life we must experience life through our 5 senses, we must see the world, hear its subtle messages, smell its flavors, taste its sweetness and touch its surface” This quote felt very apt to gardening and to these tours

      @HelloGarden  2 місяці тому

      Oh that quote was perfect. As much as I wanted to record, I also wanted to close my eyes for a moment and just indulge my other senses. These gardens were a treasure and each hit me in a different way. And you better believe I’m already plotting my next garden move. 😉

    OMG I'm sooo jealous,you got to see Camilles garden. When you announced thats where you were going I actually gasped out loud! I came across a video about it some time ago and have been totally smitten ever since. I've even tried to track down some of those glorious conifers in the UK just so I could shamefully copy and put them in my garden! So lovely to watch your video as you showed bits of her garden I've not seen before. I will definitely be watching it over and over!

    • @HelloGarden
      @HelloGarden  2 місяці тому +1

      It's so good! Just SO SO SO GOOD! Her use of texture and color was absolutely bananas. It’s also a garden that is elegant and refined, but also doesn’t take itself too seriously. And Camille is a national treasure. She is so gracious, hardworking and kind. She helped organize the Garden Fling and I cannot believe she also had the energy to prep her own garden. Of course she has also has a wonderfully supportive family who helped, but she is a power house.

    lol, I had to laugh out loud when you added the Italian music! Where’s my spaghetti?? In Camille’s garden, I wish you would find out how long she’s been growing that garden? Must be at least 20 years and how many acres?

    • @HelloGarden
      @HelloGarden  2 місяці тому

      Oh I’d say at least that. I know she restarted her front garden after a giant Doug fir fell in 2015. The side garden with that incredible Japanese portal (her husband made that!) was started in 2017. It’s a total masterpiece!!!! Oh. And 🍝. 🤣
