I’ve been rocking with Black Thought and The Roots from the beginning. The fact that he’s been doing this for 30 dammed years is insane enough. But, the depth of his lyricism continues to evolve. In my mind, he now has a legitimate claim to GOAT status!

Respectfully, there is NOTHING UNDERRATED about BLACK THOUGHT...NOTHING!. The man has been an ELITE LYRICIST since the 90's...check his catalogue.
Thought isn't underrated. It's well known that he is a juggernaut. I have him #2 alltime.
@@savageshawn10 True the top rappers know who he is problem is he is nowhere near as popular due to his style and sound, so he is underrated when it comes to the public eye and most people especially younger gen have never heard of him which is a shame. So relative to how good he is to other rappers out there but comparing his popularity to all the other rappers its not entirely illogical to say he's underrated
@richardsaid973 you can't grade those with a high lyrical acumen with the masses. The masses don't understand true lyricism. There's a reason why the best lyricist are underground. Freedom of control, shifty record deals, etc... My top 3 goes:
1. King Los
2. Black Thought
3. KXNG Crooked

Hearing songs like this makes me wonder how ppl hate lyricism. This shit is art in the purest form. He's a master of the craft, he's not leaving my top 5 ever.

I've been saying this about Black Thought for years. The incredible thing is that he has gotten even better!!! There are a lot of talented lyricist and people that have flow throughout the history of hip hop. But where this dude is at is RARE. That's why I get sort of upset when I see ridiculous claims from people about rappers and hip hop artists that are sooooo much lower than Black Thought's level. I think it's that he is SO good and says SO much in his music that it flies right over the heads of people that are trained to listen for beats instead of lyrical content and the meaning and clever skill behind them.

He is not underrated, under appreciated. There is a huge difference. He is my number 1 and I grew up in NY. No one is calling him out and everyone knows that matters in his industry. Under appreciated not underrated!!
