- I have worked as a track and field coach at Wichita State since 2006. It has undergone many changes since then and I wanted to show others what it looks like both during the day and at night!

WSU wish it had more water scenery! Nebraska has UNL next to Downtown! With Arkansas river too bad they did not use that to make a river area like OK city downtown with Shocker campus next to it!!
Recently they have added some of those water areas and lakes to campus. Prior to a few years ago there wasn’t any water on campus. It would be nice being close to downtown, but on the other hand it’s nice to be a little separate so traffic isn’t as bad and there’s more room to expand. It stays pretty quiet too!

Dang...Fairmount Towers is gone (21st and Hillside). Also the 18 hole golf course East of the baseball field is now school buildings.
Yep it’s a very different looking campus nowadays!
When I was growing up Cessna Stadium used to be the place you went for the city's 4th of July Celebration. They then moved it to what was once Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. I don't know where it is now, Riverfront Stadium?
Yeah I think Riverfront Stadium is kind of the main place for those things now. Would’ve been fun at Cessna!

Graduated from WSU in 1970 and left Wichita, although I visit often. Beautiful video but I recognized very little of the campus I remember 1966-1970.
Thanks for watching! There are still a lot of the old buildings on the west side of campus, and the stadium is from that era. I wanted to try and show people who haven’t been there for a while a lot of the new areas too!
I will be attending WSU this fall and it surprised me how much stuff there was very new. Their oldest dorm building (Shocker Hall) opened in 2014 and it is super nice.

Fun WSU football fact, at 0:14 that triangular building South of the football stadium was NOT there in 1977 allowing Joe Williams to kick a 67 yard field goal with a monster South wind at his back.

Went to WSU in the mid 70s, but visit there every few years, excellent Drone Video of the campus, love all of the new construction and growth of WSU. Now they just need to figure out what to do with Cessna Stadium, it was pretty cool back in the 70s when we had Football.....since it appears FB won't be returning anytime soon, the beat up bench seating needs to get torn down and replaced with around 5 - 10 thousand seats for Track and Field and maybe Soccer should they ever add it or some other outdoor sport.
Thank you for watching! I’m a track coach at WSU so I work in Cessna Stadium daily. I can tell you there are some plans for the stadium that may happen fairly soon. It needs to be able to host the state track meet so 5000 is too small. 10,000 is closer.

Also When I went to basketball games the Roundhouse was named Levitt Arena. I never knew who Henry Levitt was but whatever his accomplishments were to get his name on the stadium were easily wiped out because Koch is a billionaire. I think the fans in Lawrence would revolt if they ever renamed Allen Fieldhouse after some billionaire.
Henry Levitt was an early Wichita basketball figure. I’m not sure of how significant that name was to the people of Wichita. Probably not near as important as Allen.
@@TravelwithaWiseguy I guess you're right. As I said I grew up in Wichita and never really knew who Henry Levitt was, just the name on the arena. But even as a kid watching KU basketball I knew who Phog Allen was. Unfortunately I have never been to the new arena. I haven't seen a Wichita State basketball game since it was Levitt Arena. They did all those renovations and renaming after I left Wichita and when I get back there to see my mom, basketball isn't in season. By the way I am going back to Wichita to see my mom at the end of the month.
