This man is doing gods work. Can you imagine the level of spice some tournies might have in 7ish years due to the reaping of this crop? Can't wait to see it.
I like Sajam's wrestling story because mine was pretty similar. Freshman year, weighing like 200 in the 215 weight class getting wrecked by mostly juniors and seniors, though I don't remember if I got no wins that year, or if I got 1 or 2 at JV tournies. Come back sophomore year, dropped some weight letting me be at the top of the 189 weight class, which helped a lot, but I also had a big mentality switch at the time. I remember so vividly my first match that year. I told myself as I walked onto the mat that I was going to double leg this guy no matter what, and I got out there and was super aggressive. Double leg, push him out of bounds, jog back to center. Double leg again, push him out again. On the third time, I got it and just worked top really well and got a pin in the first round. Whenever I was in a match, I could never hear the crowd, I'm pretty sure this is pretty when you compete a lot. When I would hear the ref slap the mat for the pin, the noise came back all at once. Hearing my team cheering louder for me than ever before was one of the best feelings I'd ever had in my life at that point (it's still up there now, tbh). I remember one of the upperclassmen I really respected telling me afterward that he was like, "Holy shit, is that ?" because I'd just wrestled so aggressively where I'd always been more reactionary and defensive. Ended up qualifying for state that year, then washing out due to inexperience. Probably in the top 3 of "years of my life".
I always love watching/reading these. When I'm a full-blown teacher, maaaybe I'll consider introducing some GG into the curriculum. I dunno if highschoolers are really interested in that sort of thing as much as younger kids, though.
tbh i'm shocked his school's admin lets him do it. Especially because if you look up Guilty Gear you're likely to run into some Dizzy or Baiken images, which might upset some parents.
Trust me, highschoolers are just as prone to falling into the competition fever. I made a tabletop game with some classmates for a school project (aka I made the rules and they did the work to bring it to life) then had the rest of the class play it. End of the session, class is talking about what they thought about it, things get heated, guy starts strangling one of his oldest friends right in front of us all and 3 teachers. I've never been more proud of myself, but I had to hide it. I had to deal with people coming up to me for a month after that and asking when the next time they could play it would be. @@snowshow6207 Yeah, I wondered about that. It's gotta be a lax school, I mean my high school was about as chill as it got.
