I really enjoyed the teaching techniques of "hands on learning." The idea of her allowing the students to teach each other was fantastic! I also enjoyed the positive reinforcement the teacher delivered to her students, this is the key to keep the students motivated and encouraged. She's a great teacher! Thanks for sharing.
You need to know that your video here is being used to support teacher training in one of the nation's top school districts. I am not surprised we are looking at samples from NC- you all rock....your writing program and technology integration program is a model for the nation. You have authentically engaged your students- they feel safe to share, take risks, get specific feedback about + and -, show respect because of integrity all around...and have data to track their progress.....relationships
@StellaMuro Thanks so much! The folders were their unit work folders. Each week, I would give them copies of any handouts for the week and they would build them in by unit and use them as their day-book. At the end of each unit, they would remove the materials and store them in their portfolio. The tracking charts in the back marked their class progress on writing assessments based on the North Carolina Writing Rubric. They kept individual trackers in the front of their day-book
This is amazing! This is a really good example of what preparation and structure can do for a learning environment. I would like to know some info: what are the folders they are looking at when they are reading towards the end... almost looked like a booklet of some kind; also, the tracking charts..could those be explained?
Emily how did you get this observation job? i am very interested in behaviors in school and getting rid of bullying, I am also a nurse... what are you doing here? an observational study? let me know please thanks!

This was great but I'm curious to know the song in the background towards the end of the song please.
+albertie36 I believe the song you are talking about is "Fix You" by Coldplay. Lovely song!
The song was called "Swallowed in the Sea" by Coldplay.
