After the recent gambling allegations, I can’t shake the question in the back of my head about why an ump is making a lot of bad calls in a game. I know it’s probably irrational, but it really has called into question the integrity of the game for me and I hate it.
No, call out the DK employees. And that despicable Mafia that runs North America's Major Sports leagues
I think this is a legitimate question to bring up given the growing prevalence of gambling and betting lately.
Same.
William Tell Overture at the end was icing on the cake. Please consider using music in your videos again in the future, this was great!
Loved that Charlie Brown! Great work Editor 🤣🤟👍
I'm sure MLB will do something about this. We are always told the league holds them accountable, after all. It will not include being sent to the minors or fired, only everyone else on the field has to worry about that.
Rough day...
Manny was a .400+ hitter, knows the strike zone like the inside of his eyelids. Lately, the umps have NO feel for a baseball strike zone and when they are confronted resort to the toss. If you miss the call, take your lumps.
The robot umpires are coming and these umpires are speeding it along.
They've been testing this at the AAA level, and it seems that fully automated calling of balls and strikes is very unpopular with players and coaches. The best solution seems to be allowing a limited number of challenges to ball/strike calls, with the challenging team keeping their right to challenge when they're successful.
geez i thought angel retired bro
What the worst, controversial calls for Manny after Angel Hernandez.
Manny Gonzalez very inconsistent, but that was the right call. Arguing balls and strikes is grounds for automatic ejection.
We now have a new Angel Hernandez and it’s Manny Gonzalez.
Man alive, someone get Manny a dog and a cane. Seriously? The only consistent thing about Manny was his inconsistency. I want to see a catcher have to jump to get the ball, then on the way down he "frames" the ball and Manny will probably call it a strike. If I'd been a manager there I'd have gotten run by saying "Look man, low, high, left, right, just effing be consistent ok so we know what to expect??? Don't call the same pitches a ball then a strike just because it's US at the plate. And maybe consider getting a dog."
Hernandez would have been proud of this performance.
Terrible calls. He is worse than Angel Hernandez
Manny had a bad night
struggling in the heat? LOL
So many ejections over the last couple days. WHAT’S THE PACE, MISSES WOLF???
Have we found our next Angel? lol
Oof. I recently worked a game at a camp and paid extra to get Trackman radar analytics of my zone. I learned that even when I think Im squeezing pitchers, I'm wide by about an inch on the inside and 2 inches on the outside. 90% accuracy for the whole game with 110 pitches called and 11 misses. Missed two up and one down, but I will discount those as the system they had at camp does not adjust the vertical zone for each batter.
So....Manny has had this data available fir the last 150+ plate games he has worked. How does he miss three pitches IN the zone that are each nearly 2 inches to the good?!?
That said, he's working better ball with better pitchers than I am working. Those are still rough misses.
Were you working a game with pro talent? That being said…
@@1969EType D1 college prospects, mostly. I called a tighter zone than I normally call for D1 games, because I knew I tend to be wide, but turns out that even when I call tight, I'm still too wide. It was a good lesson for the $50 and I got a chart of each inning to work on. Well worth the investment.
that's really cool that you got that opportunity! and kudos for you for striving to get better 💪
I don't think Angel Hernandez was ever that bad behind the plate. The catcher moving the 2-3feet to frame the pitch should be a BIG indicator that it was outside the zone.
The people who bring up Angel Hernandez probably couldn't umpire a U-9 game with a pitching machine 😂
@@1NobleGiant Angel Hernandez couldn't umpire a U-9 game with a pitching machine accurately.
Am I the only one that religiously checks for new vids on here throughout the day? 🤣
Apparently I need to explain to the slow people that MY NOTIFICATIONS ARE ALREADY ON. SOMETIMES THEY DON'T SHOW UP INSTANTLY. SOMETIMES, IT'S HOURS LATER. AND I DON'T WANT TO WAIT FOR HOURS.
I check at the end/beginning of the day mostly
You can just subscribe and allow notifications. Then you don’t need to check.
Yeah, I get notifications - usually starting mid-afternoon going throughout the evening.
I get the notifications too and watch as soon as I can!
No l check too lol
Does that say 33 missed calls? Good grief is right, Cubs playcaller
It was a badly called game, but not really unfairly called.
@@jodosh yes it was
26 total, most of any game this year
@jodosh I wouldn't call it fair. I'd say he didn't show that much favoritism. But dude was just back there guessing.
@@Dead_Medic that's a fair assessment. The point I was getting at was the net effect of his bad game probably didn't favor one team
What in the name of Angel Hernandez is that?
Whoooooof. Rough one out there. Tbh, if I'm the manager, I'm liable to get rung up too if those are the calls
manifesting with this comment. I’m on the brink of officiating junior college baseball at 20 years old in nj. Dream would be to do it in the bigs and would be crazy to be on one of these vids in the future
gl buddy ! Seems like the hardest sport to be a ref in.
If you make it, come back on here and comment. I'm content to stay with HS softball...
Go to minor league camp. If you're about to be assigned JC ball at 20, you have all it takes to get picked up by MiLB.
Keep working, and keep grinding.
Follow through if it’s your passion!
New Jersey? Are you with United Umpires? There the only ones I know that will let you umpire college at 20.
It is one thing to miss those 50-50 calls where a pitch just scrapes the zone by a hair...but he was calling pitches that were clearly and fully in the zone as balls? Bad night, for sure!!
this one was brutal
Sometimes he's Horses***
Rough game for Gonzalez.
Another DK employee makes themself the start of the show, robo umps for strikes and balls
Manny making a good case for the computer calling balls and strikes after this.
I’m so relieved you didn’t try and justify this one. Worst umpire I’ve seen all year.
Same. She mostly does, so this surprised me as well.
There is no "try and justify". There's explaining the facts. That's it. You all just, have issues with that apparently.
@@J.C... maybe she will notice you coming to the defense and bless you with a like your comment little bro. I hope she does for your sake 🤞
@@anonymouscommenter7689 Lindsay doesn't justify anything. What she DOES DO (if you pay attention to the channel) is she'll actually say in the videos - again, you need to listen - that's she's not supporting or justifying a call, just trying to explain what may have lead to the call, or why it may have been called. She's never supported ball/strike disputes as she uses data (zones/plots) to verify each. You'll enjoy the channel if you pay attention 😉
As there's no accountability for MLB umpires, this is what you get.
Don’t watch. Duh!!!!
Maybe i should become an umpire...i could miss pitches just as easily as they do. Frank Drebin tought me...
His overall balls and strikes was 84%. That's absolutely ridiculous.
Boy howdy Manny was having a bad night behind the plate.
This video shows what I have been saying all year. In this case, the umpire squeezed the Giants pitcher very badly. The point is that in about 80-90% of the bad calls you see across many times, the umpire screws the batter, not the pitcher. I don't understand why it's more egregious when the hitter gets the good break, and in fact the fact that the pitcher gets it the vast majority of the time is part of what's RUINING baseball. HItters can rarely trust the umpire and are forced to deal with a plate that is 18-20 inches wide and a proportionately stretched high-low dimension, and having to play a guessing game about whether to just give in and start swinging at bat pitches. Will MLB ever grow a brain? I doubt it. They keep coming up with excuses about their test of a system. YOU DON'T NEED A PERFECT SYSTEM. IF MLB HAD ANY BRAINS AT ALL, WHICH THEY DON'T, THE HOME PLATE UMPIRE WOULD BE IN THE PRESS BOX CALLING THE GAME USING THE CAMERA VIEWS WE ALL HAVE. Errors would for 100% certain be reduced to rare cases. Duh!!!
2:08: “Got his money’s worth”; along with the Mario Coin Ding (2:09). 😂🤣😂🤣
But, on a serious note, who can blame Bob Melvin for getting ejected with those bad ball & strike calls?!
Bud Black Just Got Ejection The E86
Even with so many disagreements between the umpire and the ai strike zone it came out pretty fair. Which kinda shows some umpires just have their own strike zone and they’re not exactly what the computer says. Back in the day if an umpire had a high or low strike zone during a game players adjusted. It was still fair for both teams. Now we have computerized strike zones just to bitch and complain.
He's the worst ball/strike umpire in MLB. Even worse than CB Bucknor. Yikes.
I watched this game. Zone was baaad. Cubs blew it in the 9th. Good game
gonzalez sucks... he is the next that needs to retire!
Is that Eric Gregg? Thought he retired……
Worst called game of the year
I miss Angel Hernandez.
1:29 the restraint of rage.
Bring on the robots.
Before the game is too far gone
Well you better get ready for a new strike zone
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today 😉
Narrator: The Cubs lost, 7-6
@@Volante31921 Which is what makes it funny.
Hey Lyndsey, can you break down what all those numbers mean in a future video? You’re great at explaining everything. Like I see the numbers on Umpire Scorecards and something just isn’t clicking for me yet.
Can you review the Juan Soto runner interference play in the Yankees vs. Orioles game today? Always love your analysis and knowledge of the baseball rules.
Manny is known for this... why should anyone be surprised..
Wow This Right Here Was A Rough Game For Mr. Manny Gonzalez Behind The Plate Man I Think Mr. Bob Melvin Had Every Right To Be Mad Period Man
Just remember umpires…players and coaches can have a bad night, a bad week, a bad month even a bad season but, an umpire can never have a bad game…ever. A bad night for an umpire is like being found guilty of 34 felonies. It’s the worst thing ever. Just the worst…
Nope, there's something worse: suggesting using technology to help alleviate those bad nights. THAT'S the worst. It's like being found guilty of 35 felonies! How dare we consider using the thing that shows how bad the umps are to take some of the burden off the umps?!
@@Volante31921 Who are the players and coaches going to yell at when the T-1000 is calling the zone. You don’t want that. You think you want that. You don’t.
@@1969EType *repurposes Simpsons' old man yells at cloud meme

A bad day.
another example of the ump getting the coach kicked out. The umps should have to pay the fine.
There should be appeal process for every ejection. If the call was wrong, umpire has to pay fine and manager pays if call was right.
If I'm Bailey OR Miller I'm liable to get tossed from this game. Manny had no freaking clue where the strike zone was.
Embarrassing. Bring on the robo umps.
Manny’s game here is not the typical umpire scorecard.
