My old Regiment, 13/18H. A group of us went over to Normandy in May to celebrate the 80th anniversary. A new plaque for the regiment was unveiled and we had a ceremony at Mont Picon where the regiment were heavily involved. Andrew May attended and was happy to sign copies of his book for us.
Proud to say Andy is a good friend of mine. Good on you buddy, inspirational and has motivated me to write a book about my Great Grandfather's regiment, the Royal Engineers.
A great talk, thanks, gents. I was lucky enough to be at the D-Day story on the day that Andy gave his book talk there. I missed the talk but bought the book and Andy was good enough to sign it for me and to give me a quick whiz through his slides.
Woody/Andrew. Wow. What a great presentation! Regimental history, tank history, personal accounts, Brad Pitt and Bruce Crompton. Interesting from beginning to end! Woody, Bruce would be great guest talking about militaria??? Cheers gents. Bob
Great presentation by Andrew, a very interesting subject, with the added story of his family members. Many thanks Andrew and Woody, great WW2TV brings all subjects to its viewers, with experienced historians, new historians starting out, also female historians also new female historians starting out also. Watching this now on a rerun.
What an inspirational presentation. I had to wipe my eyes at the bit about Jutta Oppermann writing a letter in tribute to Doug Kay, who was obviously a good bloke who cared about people. I am inspired by the success of Andrew's book as I am now writing the story of my own grandfather and his ship during WW2. I hope it will be as good a book as this one. Awesome job Mr. May in the way you honor your great uncle, his mates, and a superb unit of the Royal Army.
My Great grandad Harry Bertie Morris was a tank commander in the Hussars and was one of the 1st to land on Sword. He also got the military medal, so proud!
Always cool to see a show that is based on a real person, especially someone who did not survive, it brings them "back" and there sacrifice is not forgotten. Cool, I did not know there where Valentine DD's!
The picture of the Sherman DD with its skirt 4+ ft above the water goes a long way toward the notion of US DDs carrying overload ammo on D-Day. Did you guest happen to know how the one in the photo was loaded?
Fantastic show as always

Wonderful insight into the Decision Makers/Leaders Interactions

It would be great if a film director somewhere ,could do a Brit savin private Ryan..??
The Scottish man you were trying not to listen to was my father
I'm so disappointed that I forgot to name Joe Collins - my apologies!

I don't, but it was in training, so one imagines the tank wasn't fully loaded with ammo.
good subject but presentation sucks
Why? What was wrong with it?
