  • a quick insight into our strike plate, and it's use, how to setup centreshot, why it needs some attention, on traditional bows. #tradbow #bogenschießen

    Field archery rules are just bizare. Under the IFAA in the traditional category you're only allowed a thin plate for a rest/strike plate but in the barebow category you can pretty much use a full olympic stetup just without the sight. Not exactly what I'd call barebow

      Our bows are quite well represented in IFAA in most classes. Whats strange is if you shoot a 1/8 past centre. 0.125" at 3.125mm a thin diam arrow can get you on reasonable true centre. So a small thickness side plate is needed. If you shoot a 3/16" (0.230") then this rule prevents you shooting small diam arrows. Because at 5.8mm past centre the arrow will be inside of centre. So what are they trying to prove or gain? Eliminating small diam arrows won't happen, having past centre won't happen. So what's the ambition of stipulating strike plate thickness limits.... surely you need what you need. Height of strike plate YES.. cap that!!

    OLY rig with CV5 I shoot near as damn it dead centre shot . Needs a very clean release but shoots great . X10 arrows spined a tiny stiff. Dirty or plucked releases increase the lateral movement of the string . BH also affects this somewhat in my experiences .

    Is there any advantage for hunting by shooting heavier spined arrows with the strike plate further in vs. Weaker arrow with plate out on one of your "hunting-weight/energy" bows or would it not matter much? Also do you ever come to USA for any events?

      An event or 2 is on the list...but not at present.
      The idea is weaker shafts with a lot of bend in them, and a lot of centreshot kicking out. Would mean the arrow would take longer to straighten up in to a reasonable straightness. A stiff arrow will have less oscillation amplitude as it leaves the bow and this in theory, means a straighter arrow sooner it comes to hitting a close shot.

    I would like to hear your thoughts about shelf height (in relation to limb tip to tip center i.e. pivot point) and its effects on bow/arrow tune and bow shootability.

      The UKs NFAS seems to have got in a twist over this. Claiming shelf humps are not legal. 5mm max. The higher your shelf. The higher your nocking point the more symmetrically you pull the bow. Can't be good. The higher your nocking point the more you load the top limb. Meaning a higher throat pressure required. It's a mess.
      That said. It's all tunable

    So, could you, in theory, have one of your wooden risers made to shoot with both a plunger button and a magnetic arrow rest?

    • @BorderArcheryLTD
      @BorderArcheryLTD  4 місяці тому

      We are on that cusp. Most metal risers are 10mm past centre. We are 7.9mm so small diam arrows and yes. Your close

      @BorderArcheryLTD interesting 🤔
      I am actually shooting 4mm black eagle arrows, so maybe I'll give it a go after the national championships.
      Then, I will have the off-season to play with it.
