I had the pleasure of meeting DJ a few days ago and hearing his story. You sir, have a beautiful gift and I could have listened to you speak for hours on end. Thank you for inspiring me to make an incredible difference in my student's lives!

The beauty of Conscious Discipline is that it helps everyone involved. From toddlers to young adults. From learning as a toddler to do your own activities of daily living, through changing the brain habits of a gangster. Think of how many lives were changed... Every child who no longer needed to be afraid of DJ? Every adult who he might have hurt if he'd kept on the path he was on before meeting Ms Porter. ☮️💞

What an incredible story and such an encouragement. I am a teacher at a title 1 middle school and I know that these kids need to know they are significant in this world. Thank you so much for reminding me that kids need a purpose! I'd love the opportunity to hear D.J. speak in person!

How do you kick a kid out of head start? The point of head start is to help kids who need it the most. I subbed in a low income pre k classroom the other day and was warned before the day started about the "kid with behaviors." As soon as he arrived, I used my conscious discipline skills of composure and noticing. Didn't have behavioral issues until the end of the day after he had an encounter with another staff member. Conscious discipline is like magic. Imagine how much different DJs childhood and teen years could have gone if he had met a CD trained teacher way before 12th grade!

An awesome teacher and that let you know she really cares about her in such a life-changing video and you can tell that teacher has a lot of patience for that student and you can tell that the student was really willing to change his life for that teacher and then he became a teacher himself

I love how DJ responded to the teacher 🤣. Seriously though, this all looks great as a matter of individualized approaches to "discipline" in schools. I do love how the teacher avoided the standard racist deficit and punitive approach with DJ. But, I'm not convinced that ANY individualized approach, on its own, works. I was intrigued by something with the word "conscious" in it - but from what I'm seeing here, it looks little too "Blind Side" white savior looking to me. Approaching young people, especially from marginalized & oppressed communities such as Black folks, with some Jedi mind tricks like this without acknowledging or recognizing systemic power dynamics like oppression and white privilege ain't the long term solution.
Teaching them some about SOCIAL consciousness, such as Black consciousness/Black power and other types of critical consciousness, I think, is. Working in solidarity with oppressed communities to challenge oppression (vs. things like 'anti bullying' or whatever) is the answer. How about working with DJ to help change public schools from being the industrialized institutions designed to train workers for obedience and skills that serve capitalism and the ruling class to being a true change agent of society - rather than to recruit him into being some BS corporate motivational speaker.
