Not only KitKats, also the swiss Toblerone is machined on shapers - Very traditional process ;) I tried milling one with a D-bit and was not to happy about the finish...
You probably dont care but if you guys are bored like me atm you can stream pretty much all the new series on instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my brother for the last months :)
The possibilities are endless, much like the human mind.... Very cool and now I need to start working on a pull type clapper :) Great short video. Thanks
Gotta love the shaper, even now they are a very useful tool and can do more than most people think. Now you need to make a "power" down feed to advance the cutter.
Stefan, We just lover our shapers don't we. I must soon download that drawing on the pull clapper box and build one for my 7" AMMCO. All the reasons you give make a lot of sense....but I will have to figure out how to run the motor in reverse. Thank you again for sharing.
I enjoyed that video, I always get shaper envy and then go back to my elliot m10. Thanks for uploading always a pleasure to watch your skill and approach.
I don't know much about shaper setups. Why do you have the tool sticking out so much from the holder? Shapers are hypnotic to watch! Thanks for posting.
A very short video compared to your other uploads.....after seeing your shaper in actions I am more tempted to buy one for my tool room... One more thing please make a video for speeds and feeds as I am more into metric than the fractions.... CHEERS! Keep posting 👍👏
I didn't even know you could cut backwards with a shaper! But the cutter noise I found kinda funny but I wasn't watching however many you had to cut. Nice work!!
That might have happened - And a positive angle alters the effective angle of the grove. Like a threading tool with positive rake. Thanks for watching :)
That must have been close to the limits of travel? BTW, you could sell the swarf to McDonalds as plastic licorice, go well with their other plastic food.
I think the smell that burns your nosehairs is hyperchloric acid thats released when PVC gets heated up..the shaper does not introduce enough heat to make this happen :)
Stefan - I notice that you have also reversed the direction of the bull-gear when shaping with the pull clapper box. Is this a permanent alteration, or can you still have "normal" direction when you want ? - Kindest Anna
Hallo, richtig schöner Hobler. Was ist das für einer? Hast du den überholt, oder war der in so einem Zustand? Gibt es da einen Link zu einem Forum, wo du den Hobler vorstellst? Ich meine mir liegt da etwas an... Gruß
Stefan strikes again! Is there anything that you can't do with that machine? Yes -- you can't cut curves. There is an interesting book out there "How to Run a Shaper" by a Mr. Stieri. It was written as a handbook in WWII as a handbook for, shall we say, less than skilled machinists who had to do things on shapers. I have this book but can't find it. I could not find it on youroldtimebooks.com, but there is a South Bend reprint from the 40s which might do. Now all I need is a shaper. Search for "shaper."

That's not how Kit-Kats are made. but very interesting video. the surface finish off the shaper was excellent and unexpected.

@James Dustin definitely, have been using InstaFlixxer for since november myself :D
who needs cable TV when you have great UA-cam videos like this! Thanks!
It looks like a heatsink! Except middle management got involved in materials selection.
As I have mentioned - I sure miss my old shaper!
Was almost surprised you could manage that long of a stroke. Seemed to make a super cut... ideal.:)
I like to watch the shaper cut. Keep on keeping on.
Very nice shaper work Stefan I really like watching a shaper in action!
The possibilities are endless, much like the human mind.... Very cool and now I need to start working on a pull type clapper :) Great short video. Thanks
Very satisfying to see those crisp cuts.
Gotta love the shaper, even now they are a very useful tool and can do more than most people think. Now you need to make a "power" down feed to advance the cutter.
Excellent video. Great shaper work Stefan. regards from the UK
Loved it. And YES, it's getting me very inspired to finish my shaper. And those "screams" from the plastic was a little erie...
The plastic screamed for mercy ;)
Love the shaper videos Stefan! Heck I love all your videos!! Jason
Thank you!
Nice job, love the shaper.
Thank you - You know, every household needs a shaper.
You are one clever individual. Very nice work; thanks for sharing!
glad your back enjoyed your post very much

Yes, the motor has to run in reverse :)
You just remembered me to put the link to the drawings into the video description.
Thanks for watching :)
Great job. and very interesting.

Thanks Stefan, A great job for the shaper!
Another excellent video Sir.
Well done, Stefan!
Another job well done...
That turned out real nice
Nice job good thinking
Outstanding cut

I think the pivot point to cutting point distance determines the clearance created on the return stroke

CHEERS! Keep posting 👍👏
Squeeky, squeeky. Straight line lathe for the win!
In fact I put the volume of the shaper down to 20% for the video. I put on hearing protection after a few parts... ;)
Stefan Gotteswinter
If it was that loud I hope you gave your girlfriend some hearing protection as well!
Thanks for the upload.
excellent job Stefan ,very cool project 👍
I didn't even know you could cut backwards with a shaper! But the cutter noise I found kinda funny but I wasn't watching however many you had to cut. Nice work!!
Nice video! Why not make the part a few mm oversize on the length and then saw it to 200mm to remove the bur?
Nice, any possibility to reveal what the parts are used for?
Yes - Its for a color film processor:
ua-cam.com/video/BhgOWvP1vZA/v-deo.html At 4:24 you can see where the parts will end up :)
Nice. Thanks.
well done!!
Excellent.....
Guess that a positive rake would have lifted the part and messed it up. Surprising but efficient solution ;)
That might have happened - And a positive angle alters the effective angle of the grove. Like a threading tool with positive rake.

Hey, good machine stool choice! Ikea.
Truly impressive finish. The tool must have been sharp as a razor.
Stefan, you should have said the forth reason- its your shop and you can do what you want haha!
Absolutely!
did that PVC stink during cutting? When machining it on the lathe it get's that penetrating smell, thanks for the vid by the way

Die Kiste hab ich praktisch Neuwertig bekommen ;)
Am I the only one who noticed you missed to tighten the screw No. 6?
very possible :D
Next time try liquid soap as a lubricant, no need to add water. Thank you Stefan.

stefan nice tip great video.=========bob
Ist glaube das einzige Video zum stoßen von Kunststoff auf UA-cam :D
Waw that was cool.. shaper powered by ninja cats ;)
