I think the part where the woman takes something out of the trash and tries to eat it is particularly artistic and thought-provoking. She clearly threw it out, but still desired to have it. The man yelled at her for trying to have it. This is clearly a metaphor for her dreams of love and their relationship. For bonus complexity points, there's also the undertone of perhaps the LITERAL toxicity of him yelling at her for eating something, pointing to an encouraged eating disorder. I also spent a while thinking about the child. I think it's the woman in the past, a child who decorated herself with hopes for love in the future (the makeup box is literally heart-shaped). When she kills her husband, the child comes and stands above her, like a hero. This is symbolic of how her TRUE hopes for love prevailed in the end and she broke free of what clearly went against her ideals. Another possible interpretation is that the child is actually the couple's child, and she kills the man with thoughts of her child in her mind. The child represents what her hopes for love in the future were, since she dreamed of having a family. The child is a hero because the child represents what remains of her hope. She killed her husband because her hope for real love remained alive.
I think it was the child's birthday, judging by the fact that at the beginning of the video the woman was lighting candles on the cake, and that heart-shaped box was probably a birthday present
I love how disorientated the sound is like it sound like a dysfunctional relationship that's toxic for both and they are lashing out wishing to escape while not ready to somehow
Found this song in an aromantic playlist! The chorus especially resonates: "sure there are things I could do, if I was half prepared to, prove to each other that romance is boring". Maybe TECHNICALLY aro people could agree to a romantic relationship, but while some enjoy them, for a lot of us trying just ends up proving that we were never interested at all. Also, it is such a great song!! It gets stuck in my head so much!
I see a lot of people saying that this song is meant to show how you can get bored in a relationship but I think they meant it more as we don't have romance, it was boring anyway. In the genius annotation they did they compared the song to saying that iPads were shit just because you can't afford one. It's like the narrator was expecting a more exciting relationship but didn't get one, saying romance was boring anyway.
i think the fable of the fox and the grapes is where the fox finds some grapes it wants to eat but they're too high up to reach so it gives up and says they were bad anyways

My interpretation of the video because I love psychology and this song: I like the idea of the child being the woman as a child because of the cake being blown out in the end. It could be symbolizing that the child's birthday is over, or the child's childhood being over at an early age, because of the toxicity that the child had to deal with so young and had to grow up too soon because of it. I also like how the candles were fully blown out and/or melted into the cake at the end when they are blown out. This could either represent the woman/child’s dreams being fully crushed, or maybe they’re just melted into the woman’s heart in some way- at least they’re not completely gone. The tv and the book many times show the wife and husband arguing in different ways. I like to think of it as they’ve been through so much together which is why the wife hasn’t left him, despite the husband constantly fighting and arguing with her in every different scene. In the beginning of the video the child is putting makeup on her face. I have different interpretations of it but my favorite is that the child wants to grow up. Later on in the video the woman shows how much she may have disliked this wish. Everyone at one point of their childhood wants to be older than they were and wants to grow up, but that can definitely encourage the childhood ending so quickly. Looking back at this paragraph I’m either totally off and it’s just the child dressing up for her birthday or I’m onto something but I doubt it. Another reason I like the idea of the child being the woman’s past self is because of how hard the woman continues to work for the child and its birthday throughout the video. Sure, you could say it’s just a mother trying to make the child’s birthday the best it could be in their situation, but it could also be the woman desperately trying to heal and cling onto her inner child. Like I said previously, the cake being blown out could symbolize the child’s childhood ending at a young age because of what made her have to grow up or step in for the family, which makes sense considering what the woman goes through in the video. The woman eating the cake out of the garbage and then the husband yelling at her for it. To me this could symbolize her, again, trying to cling onto what’s left of her childhood/ her dreams she had at an early age but were shot down by peers, much like how the husband scolds her for eating the cake. The reason I say dreams is because if you look around the room the child puts on her makeup in, there’s multiple items in the background that could symbolize dreams the child once had but were crushed. A soccer ball, some costumes or clothing items, a rubber duck in the end of the video, makeup the child had on. Maybe the dreams are not even fully crushed yet, maybe the room is supposed to be the child’s heart, and the items, or dreams, are tucked away in her heart. The box the child is holding is also shaped like a heart, and so is the cake. There is a specific number of candles that change throughout the video, which maybe could represent how many dreams the child had. There are nine or ten candles on the cake at the beginning, all of which are lit, six at 0:48 although it might just be the angle, and about six or seven melted/burned candles on the cake at the very end when they are blown out. (I also like how she used one candle to light all the others, because many people use different dreams and interests to influence/encourage others.) It’s also interesting because the sigh at the end, which probably blew out the candles, is the voice of the man singing in the song, which if you pay attention in the video, the man that beats the woman is the owner of the voice. There are also ten flowers at 1:56, which are decaying and dying, with one flower completely shriven up and fallen over the vase. In the child’s room towards the end, you can sort of count about ten items, such as a lamp, rubber duck, figurine, etc. In the first scene of the video, in the room the child is in, the rubber duck and figurine next to the red lamp are not as bright/noticeable as they are towards the end of the video. This could represent dreams that the child unlocks/has as she grows up. The man has eight beers, six not yet drank and two that he has drank. Throughout the video he continues to drink many, if not all, of the beers, which also could represent dreams of the woman/child he is shooting down. He drinks the first beer out of the six at the same time the woman places the first candle on the cake. The woman places the candle- the child prepares her dream/interest to present to the peer/man- while the man gets ready to drink his beer- or gets ready to crush the dream. The man takes more beers as the woman puts on the frosting or lights the candles. The man, from the woman’s beating, appears to be dead, or at least out of the woman’s life, at the end, although the candles on the cake are still blown out. This shows there is still damage done to the person even if the person that did the harm is out of their life. At the end the child is dressed in a strange looking, randomly put together costume. The mask the child is wearing looks like a wrestling mask, there’s a cape on her back that could symbolize a superhero’s cape, and makeup on the child’s face. Even the orange child-like necklace the woman is wearing throughout the video could be something from the child, again representing the woman trying to cling onto what’s left of her younger self. Maybe half the video could be another scene like from the TV or the book. Like I said before, the scenes from the television or the book, with the husband always yelling at the woman, could represent times in the couple’s life (if they’re even a couple, maybe the man is a peer that shot down the woman’s dreams or just hurt her in the past) that, according to the woman, they went through together in hard times. So maybe the entire scene with the woman beating the man or the man drinking beer the whole time could be another scene or analogy. The child seems to be watching television in her room while putting her makeup on, so maybe this is all something the child is watching, At exactly 0:17, after the man violently hits the television, you can see flower petals falling from something above. Maybe the woman is the flower and each time the man hurts her, or whatever you’d like to think of the man being violent as, she loses more petals. This could make sense because it seems as though she finally snapped at the end of the video, so maybe she lost all of her petals. Then, at 1:56, you can see a variety of dead flowers in a vase at the same location as 0:17. There are ten flowers that are still upright, the same number of candles on the cake in the beginning, and one flower completely dead and fallen over in the vase.
Never in a million years did I expect this song to go the way it did. Pleases my punk soul. Yes, Wilbur made a cover of it, but he made it go in a different direction. You can't compare two drastically different arts.

I like this and Wilbur's. Wilbur made it more of a heartbreak not meant to be relationship while this shows an actual broken relationship with all the pain of being trapped in fake romance. While in Wilbur's it seems to come to a more calming end and this ends as insane as it started
I think it’s only that way because Wilbur has a more quiet voice and couldn’t reach this level or wouldn’t at night by the sea, not because it was intentional

I love this song sm I’ve had it on repeat for the last few days! Also can people stop comparing it to Wilbur? I love Wilbur and I found the song from him but it’s kind of disrespectful idk
I love the song! But that cross above the tv... so imaginative, so provocative, especially in the 80's when the video was shot, never gets old when you want to look edgy like Madonna!
This and the whole album was amazing! i just can't believe you guys decided to make three perfect tracks and put them in succession : I Just Sighed, A Heat Rash and The Sea Is. also since i just listened to the whole thing again it made me appreciate songs like Who Fell Asleep In and the last two tracks on top of every other track here (even the little transition into I Just Sighed) still waiting for a 2022 release
Mfs coming over here after seeing the Wilbur cover and saying Wilbur did it better r pissing me off. Can't compare shit when they're basically two different genres and not to mention it's incredibly rude to come here only to shit on the band and not say anything except for "WiLbUr DiD iT bEtTeR iMo"
I heard that this song is about a toxic relationship where there is no love involved whatsoever and that it's just sex. So i guess it isnt an aroace/aromantic anthem but CAN be intepreted as one.
i think whats funny is ive been in a lot of toxic friendships, even though it wasn't love it felt like it to me, I got attached easily and then toyed with again and again and again, everytime I think ill change I don't and it gets worse, so whats funny is that I can relate to this song somehow
hey wilbur stans! shut it and appreciate the song! this band creates masterpiece after masterpiece and just because wilbur's cover was different doesn't mean the original was bad! (edit: this comment is still blowing up, and i think my original comment was a bit harsh. back in the peak of minecraft youtube, people were more critical of this song because they were wilbur “stans.” modern fans of lovejoy are not the main target of this comment, and i think people have generally grown a lot.) (edit 2: fuck wilbur soot)
Ok no one said the music is bad first i didnt get it but maybe they're saying: "thank's Wilbur" because they glad they diecorvered this song* because of him 😂 problably not but whatev
Most of the comments are thanking this guy for bringing them to the music and comparing the differences between the cover and the real song. There is so need to be angry that some people found a song through a cover. You're not doing anything by saying 'just appreciate the music' because they are.
fr man, even when the cover was released no one acted like this, and just appreciated him making the cover, and within the past like 8 months i come back to this song and it’s aids in the comments
i think i get whats going on between the man and the woman in this video but im just wondering if anyone knows what the kid is doing or why they're doing it. ( this song is awesome )
All the comments I see are saying there's Wilbur stans not shutting up, but I see no Wilbur stans saying "the cover is better" or "love it but the cover is better" bro shush and enjoy the song
@RinniePoop just as "songs about your girlfriend", I think it came out this year on february 13th, but still remaining the "HA-HA" and the spit on the face to Valentine's day
Dude I fucking love this I totally thought it would be way different (because of Wilbur's cover) I'm so glad I discovered this version though it's such a different vibe and I love it

I'm with St. Bernard's and we're
Scouring the Alps and the Andes

My interpretation of the video because I love psychology and this song:

also since i just listened to the whole thing again it made me appreciate songs like Who Fell Asleep In and the last two tracks on top of every other track here (even the little transition into I Just Sighed)
still waiting for a 2022 release
Mfs coming over here after seeing the Wilbur cover and saying Wilbur did it better r pissing me off. Can't compare shit when they're basically two different genres and not to mention it's incredibly rude to come here only to shit on the band and not say anything except for "WiLbUr DiD iT bEtTeR iMo"
im so happy to see people here that came from wilbur
This aged like milk
@@theonewhoasked2474 oh shit 💀 god I despise that dude now

I LOVE THIS SONG‼️‼️
ITS JUST SO GOOD
I was recommended this a few years ago and I do get some nostalgia from it banger song I came across randomly
2:06 Wait She Just Killed Him

Lmao
I am a huge fan of wilbur soot but i didnt realise he made a cover until the other day and ive been listening to this song for a while
OBSESSED!!!❤
okay i got here from wilbur and i love this version so much more! this is a wild experience and its awesome
I fucking love this thank u Wilbur for showing everyone this
I heard that this song is about a toxic relationship where there is no love involved whatsoever and that it's just sex. So i guess it isnt an aroace/aromantic anthem but CAN be intepreted as one.
i love this song with all my heart
RISE UP AROACE GANG. 🗣️💥💥
i would say "im used to wilburs version" but ill say something more original.
i like the guys shirt
yes the wifebeaters
I always watched Wilbur's and he makes them seem so soft and then there's the original lol I love this so much I love these kinds of songs

Hi!
i think whats funny is ive been in a lot of toxic friendships, even though it wasn't love it felt like it to me, I got attached easily and then toyed with again and again and again, everytime I think ill change I don't and it gets worse, so whats funny is that I can relate to this song somehow
reminds me of my family
F
hmmm
u good?
This original ver has so much more personality compared to that other dude's cover omg
“The other dude” do you know you are talking about the one true god wibler foot
@@tongus5799 fuck yh xD
please don’t compare artists, both versions are amazing in their own way and it sounds really disrespectful
I'm here to be disrespectful lol. OP is right. The acoustic cover is nothing special.
Please and thank you
hey wilbur stans! shut it and appreciate the song! this band creates masterpiece after masterpiece and just because wilbur's cover was different doesn't mean the original was bad!
(edit: this comment is still blowing up, and i think my original comment was a bit harsh. back in the peak of minecraft youtube, people were more critical of this song because they were wilbur “stans.” modern fans of lovejoy are not the main target of this comment, and i think people have generally grown a lot.)
(edit 2: fuck wilbur soot)
Ok no one said the music is bad first i didnt get it but maybe they're saying: "thank's Wilbur" because they glad they diecorvered this song* because of him 😂 problably not but whatev
both the song and the cover is great :)
As someone who likes Wilburs content, yeah some people are being really annoying :P but both are masterpieces :D
I thank the Wilbur Cover for actually making me realize this song exists
I live for this song oml
im not even aromantic but this song is an banger
i think i get whats going on between the man and the woman in this video but im just wondering if anyone knows what the kid is doing or why they're doing it. ( this song is awesome )
1:07 LITERALLY THE BEST PART
YESSSS
the aromantic anthem yes
the time it took me to find a comment mentioning the heavy aro vibes was way too long
@@poppunn I was looking for a aromantic comment for so long 😭

ROMANCE IS BORING🧡💛🤍💙🖤!!!!!!!
This song is about domestic violence
@Hikimowanker we know it just fits aro/ace people.
@@Romanceisboring-b8c just by ur pfp I know you're unbearable to talk to
coming from Wilbur's I was not expecting this but this is fucking sick holy shit-
This is so beautifully chaotic
Hello aroaces
hi!!!
Hi !!

Hello 😀
All the comments I see are saying there's Wilbur stans not shutting up, but I see no Wilbur stans saying "the cover is better" or "love it but the cover is better" bro shush and enjoy the song
I heard Wilbur’s cover before this one but I love both honestly
@RinniePoop just as "songs about your girlfriend", I think it came out this year on february 13th, but still remaining the "HA-HA" and the spit on the face to Valentine's day
thanks wilbur
Dude I fucking love this I totally thought it would be way different (because of Wilbur's cover) I'm so glad I discovered this version though it's such a different vibe and I love it
Can we stop talking about WIlbur's version? :/
i love this single
ROMANCE IS BORING🗣🔥❗
Everybody knows you can't kill wolverine with a bat.

This makes me feel like the main character
I love how the chorus gets progressively louder each time
this is the song i listen to when i am having my emotional breakdowns and ngl i aint gonna stop
Very cool song
This is much better than the Wilber ver
Even as a big fan of Wilbur I much prefer this version :)
LOVE THIS SONG VERRRYYY MUCH!
The video and the meaning of the song is brutal
This song is addictive

There are so many things this song video represents its almost scary.
i really am used to wilbur's version, and was not expecting this at all haha
but this is very different, in a good way!
