Both available videos of Madeleine Kahn and Beth Howland were done for film. This is a true stage performance, performed to play to the back of a large theatre. It is a very different type of acting.
Tbh i love this version sm, like the voice changes and dramatic dynamic changes gives insight to her mental state in this moment, as well as she's actually acting and throwing her all into it, and you csn see that from her facial expressions, wide hysterical eyes, hand motions sparatic and everywhere, i love it.
I think this is a performance definitely more designed for the stage than for this close-up video - it seems almost unfair to scrutinise it so closely!
Exactly - this was never meant to be filmed up close. This actress does an excellent job (and is the revered Sophie Tompson - one of England's most respected & in demand performers).
The original version is in the Broadway Cast recording with Beth Howland performing this song and Dean Jones in the leading role. ua-cam.com/video/ZFEtp-jSNvA/v-deo.html
Hmmm...not sure. It'd probably grow on me if I watched it more, but it comes off very quirky, and such an odd accent for Amy. Sounds like a slugger for the Yankees or something. The guy who plays Paul has an amazing American accent. Accept for one word I would never know if he was British or not. I'm still not sure! Ha!
Not super fond of this one. She lacks nuance (I blame the director) and Paul is not supposed to be singing to her, he's singing to himself in the bedroom while he gets dressed. Again, the director's choice, but it changes the scene's meaning too much. Beth Howland and Kate Finneran both gave both broad, yet still nuanced performances.

This is a wonderful rendition from the highly talented Sophie Thompson - I was lucky enough to be there - a real privilege.
EVERYONE KEEP IN MIND THIS SONG ISNT SUPPOSED TO BE A PRETTY AND FLIRRY ITS A SOON TO BE BRIDE GOING INTO A STATE OF PANIC
Sophie Thompson? She's practically British comedy royalty!
Shes so good haha she really is going crazy
Very good.. seems to owe a lot to Madeleine Khan's version but very good.. great song and very hard to sing
This is the best one.
Katie Finneran is the best at this song.
She's GREAT!!!!!!! SOOOOOOOO funny!!!! One of the best I've seen.
Brilliant, maybe the best version ever. I wish I could have seen it.

Why does everyone keep saying Madeleine Khan is the best, i think she's odd
That's the point.

Why is Amy on MDMA?
This is the worst performance of Getting Married Today I have ever watched. What is wrong with this woman playing Amy?
Michael Cullen i agree 😂 I like the 2011 version the best
Michael Cullen keep in mind it isnt supposed to be pretty its literally a girl panicking
i think you're watching it wrong
