Terrible intonation wrecks the 'Curse' motif. And the ridiculous static grimacing into the camera when the music has him leaving the stage is just one more idiocy in a production replete with idiocies.
Ntreik96 No kidding. I always tear up when I see this; even though Alberich is by far the vilest character in the Ring, Becht actually makes me feel sorry for him. Superb acting.
This is one of those "re-interpreted" productions i.e. the settings are changed from the original context, in this case the era of the industrial revolution. That's why Alberich looks more like an 18th century mine owner. These re-interpreted productions are often hit-and-miss, not to mention controversial. This one's decent I guess, there's far worse out there!
@@jmwoods190 I have seen one in real life and it was awful. I could not understand what was happening on stage. It was also sung in German, which would make sense if it was in Germany, but I am Swedish and can't speak German. They should make it look exactly like how Wagner wanted, and they should sing in Swedish when it is played in Sweden.
doobiesmoke15 He usually has a hump too, according to the Libretto but clearly the Producers wanted him to look human as for all the primeval Mythicism,it just about greedy humans
He rules over the Nebulung, which are dwarfs. He is supposed to be humpback from working in the mines for years. I wanted to hear the next part when they bring the gold to the rulers.
As much as I was trying to love Becht, Neidlinger just has more depth into his characterization. Perhaps Becht's portrayal needs to be seen as part of Chereau's production. On the other hand, Boulez manages to clarify the orchestral texture in a way Solti doesn't (as much as I like Solti's richness).
wait where is the space surfboard and the Pokemon battle???
Go write a comment for the salmon, and the trout.
Unglaublich wunderschön ! BRAVO ❤️
Please share a version of the ring which is better than this. I've never seen anything as powerful as this production... it's my favorite.
Im confused, wheres the part where he rejects some maidens advances three times and surfs away as the vine booms drop??

FFS . See one Mandalore video on Ring and now i am getting the actually Wagner play.
Becht is fantastic here. It takes a well balanced singer to radiate that much anger but still pull off a wonderful sounding performance. Bravo!
Becht was a fantastic actor. To play such a revolting character as Alberich, and make us feel sorry for him, is the height of dramatic art. Bravo.
Incredible, Becht makes you feel that Alberich had some feelings after all!
Envy, wrath, hate, being powerless, rejection, frustration...all these are feelings. Being nice is easy.

Best Ring ever. EVER.
Well the Boulez Ring is fantastic, but the Karajan Ring is superior
@@elvisthedude4422 i think so too. Karajan’s ring is almost perfect.
Beautiful singing ! Thanks for posting :)
operatic singers need a good voice AND acting skill. Becht definitively got both!
Magnífic !
Fantastisch!
So brilliant.
Man is he good....
Just to check... can someone of you confirm that this is REALLY a bass voice?
Bass-bariton.
Becht is a Helden Bariton with a blade on the voice. The most important thing is contrast between the lower voices in Rheingold.
Haha. Reminds me at the last face expression from alex in clockwork orange:D
That's not how he should be dressed. There were no such clothes in ancient times

@@Siegfried5846 please go off yourself. You are beyond stupid and unsavable
Exactly what Wagner wanted!
3:39 Oh, oh. This looks serious. A laxative and a hot water bottle should take care of that.
I thought Alberich was supposed to be a dwarf? That guy is the same height as everyone else on stage

Know any good dwarf singers?
@@telephilia You need a large thoraxic cage and lungs to produce the sounds required for this role.

William Perry Seriously? Don’t you know the fantastic THOMAS QUASTHOFF?! Check his Amfortas!
When Gustav Neidlinger sings this, it's terrifying and powerful. This is just kvetching.
