I love how David repeatedly asks the guy about blade steel... 420HC? 7 or 8cr13mov?... It's like he can't believe his ears they still use that steel in 2020. 🤭
@@renelesch6244 let a hope they or .I will never understand why they even when the other way like they did . It does not pay to change from the way they use to be .I hope this is a wake up call for them .
Gerber is killing it this year. There are at least 3 edc knives and tools I want. Definitely getting the utility blade, both of them. The little fix blade interests me a lot. And that bali-chopper... Let me join their design team!
Han Liu i would not say “ killin it”. Cool, decent. Their Edict is 154cm, $58.00. The Gator is same, $39.00. I buy D2 or better. I own a red n a blk Tenacious, aus8, china made, Very Very Solid pieces!! So point being aus 8 not that bad, guess it depends on the Heat Treat🔪🔪🤙

Mad Hatter decent. I bought 154 folder I Love. Lotta their stuff is junk jus like crkt an one other one they be using 5cr 13, and 3!! 3! Sad and un American
Still some of those Gerber straight knives are exactly like aliexpress grafting knifes that are even more cheaply made. They should stay sharp in clean wood.
@@vicarious1028 thanks; it WAS a soft-food company so what do they know about steel over there ;) ... I found out from them I wanted a tanto blade and went shopping :)
Back when Gerber made the Artifact, I wrote to Gerber to let them know they needed to market it to sign makers. I use my Gerber Artifact 20 to 30 times a day, cutting and weeding vinyl, opening paint cans, turning screws etc.. When they discontinued it I bought all I could find. I am down to 3 left (I've lost a few, left a few on job sites). This new Prybrid-X might be just the ticket, although I wish it had a small phillips like the Artifact, it comes in handy sometimes.
The gerber ultimate being combo only is a bummer, only reason i never got a gerber prodigy was the combo blade. Glad i stocked up on the gerber harsey hunter back in the day, I find a knife i like i get multipules because the models disappear. I'll stick with the strongalrm, if the ultimate ever comes out in plain edge i'll get one to try. Afew interesting blades but nothing i would buy except a unicorn plain edge ultimate :). Thanks for the video take care and godbless.
I’m no expert but is d2 or 14c28n that more expensive to buy in bulk then 7cr? I would pay a little extra for some better budget steel. Shit I’d even take aus8 over 7cr I’ve had better performance outta aus8 then 7cr or 8cr. As far as designs they are doing pretty awesome stuff this year.
Digging the Japanese style blade, those are good designs that work. Nice to see that Japanese blade designs are starting to get their light in the US market.
I'm really digging some of the first couple knifes shown. The US made knife. I'll absolutely be getting the chopper at the beginning, My only grip is all the 7cr steel. I guess they do it to keep the cost down. All in all tho awesome blades. Good job Gerber. I'll be getting some of these tools
Karrson is always great! One of the best reps for sure, him and David of we (formerly kizer). Love that fixblade and the sumo. Design-wise they punch above in my opinion.
After massaging my Ayako that came in yesterday, I did a flick opening and the framelock overlocked itself.... I hadn't even tried the blade yet... The profile of the open knife was just so luring to me. But...apparently not even the build quality one could expect, even from a budget knife.
I'm liking Gerber's new direction and line up. More USA made knives and even imports are not bad price with better designs. They have finally moved away from the $19 dollar survival theme. The sumo design was new and interesting for $36 on knife center. Welcome back Gerber!
@Jimmy Jim Nah. Already last and this year they have started using D2, S30v and 20cv. 5 more years and there will still be cheap steels, but more variety with higher quality materials
Damn Gerber!!! Right on. I only have the strongarm and love it. But looks like I'll have alot more Gerbs now...!! Ps as long as they dont have the initials BG🙄
Great designs but c’mon Gerber at least use 8cr on the budget stuff or just bump everything to D2 on the budget line. But looking like they’re really trying to make some changes and keep up with the rest of competition.👍
So what's the upgrade on the ultimate knife? Looks like it removed the bear Grylls logo, changed the colour , and grip? Still a cheap steal. They had the bear Grylls pro knife.
Honestly, there is better steel. However, if you know knives and how to sharpen them then 7 will suffice. Great hunting packages! However, my $275 ULU is a BEAST! I gave up on Gerber until this review!
I love all of the Micarta use, but not when it's only half of the handle. When half of the knife looks one way and the other half looks totally different, it is not to my taste.
I prefer Gerbers over any other commercially made knives , I have been using Gerber's for 50 or so years and have performed thousands of necropsies on animals from the size of a rabbit to as big as a horse . In my experience any thing which clips on to a belt can clip off the belt and iI will only use sheaths with a flap over butt and a belt loop . Although well made I think most of those knives are made for dreamers who have never been in the bush (jungle) and probably never will be . A proper knowledge of the anatomy of the animal one is cutting up negates the need for a cleaver or bone saw . Ones thumb and fist are all that are need to remove the hide off a deer /elk once the opening cuts have been made .
That Gerber Ultimate is effectively an unbranded Bear Grylls Ultimate survival knife. Can you say cheesy - I'll pass. If Gerber wanted to up it a bit, they could have used the Bear Grylls Ultimate Pro as the base design instead.
420HC.... again. Really? Until Gerber starts to offer higher quality steels(3V, Elmax, M390, etc....) on their fixed blades, it’s hard to take them serious.
The Blake & 7cr?!? Are they trying to use up their old stock of low grade steel or something? I hope they will finally realise that this is killing some of their better designs. I’m glad that they’re finally doing the Flatiron in D2.
The Blake elmax and m390 would be terrible for a bushcraft blade. Number one hard to field sharpen, number two, being that both are up their with being the hardest steels on the market, and how companies are inconsistent with their heat treat if both, and the cost putting out a lot of people’s reach, not to mention anything over 62 hrc would be tits to hammer on in the field. Sure it may survive a few trips but which do you think is going to snap first? Something RC 55-57 or 60-63. 3v I can understand cause it’s designed for that but damn what are you smoking.
looks like gerbers getting back in the game with some decent knives, theres only a handful of good gerbers but on that table pretty much everything is good
Gerber just blew it up!
Don’t know how the 7steel are gonna stand to use but these designs are better then half of what I’ve seen released elsewhere
Gerber has been killing it with their design's these last two years, but the 7cr is such a bummer.
@kamehamehaiuken, but the design and quality is getting better.
untill they get some decent steels im not interested....jmho
Love that safety stop on the folding machete!!

Topher yu wanted. Yesterday i bought Nordic Green flatiron. Luv it. Also have a eafengrow wit that blade. EF hard to beat
Props to Gerber for stepping it up. Definitely gonna pick some of these up before the prices go up because they definitely will.
Jimmy Jim I meant the knives themselves. Just look at the gerber haul started out at around 25 and now they’re going for 30+ dollars.

Some of these seem like cool designs, but I'm not of fan of the cheap steel they want to keep using
Yeah 8crmov is the least I would use.

Like to see all the new micarta. The blue jean micarta looks awesome. Put that on the fastball and you have a winner
Lmao Gerber: “it’s not gonna be your primary knife but in a pinch” 🤣🤣🤣
Exactly!
Hope things are going to be available in the UK......🤞

My favorite Gerber Knife is the Profile, fixed blade. Bummed out they discontinued this blade. Great quality. It's a tank.

Good stuff.
This rep is great.

Wow, gonna finally get a Gerber

They’re wanting $150 for that butterfly deal using 420 steel for god sake.

Increase the price by 20 bucks and use D2 or 01 steel. The MOV variants are mostly garbage.
