THANK YOU! I’m a 61 year old woman with MS. I was able to do this by myself, only because of your wonderful instructions. The cost of plumbers are so high. This gives me money to put toward my expensive medicines. You never know who you are helping and why. I found it important to let you know that you’re making a difference! God bless.
Thank you for this video. I m a 67 year old single woman. Because of this video I was able to remove my hardwired disposal and replace it with a new one by myself. Except....I did have to get my grandson to help me lift the new one up to fasten it. It was pretty darned heavy to hold up there and fasten the ring at the same time.
The HP of the motor has a big bearing on the weight as well as the materials the disposal is made of. In some cases people have used a car jack to lift the unit in place. Whatever works once installed you should enjoy several years of good performance.
I just finished using this tutorial to take out our old garbage disposal and put in the new one. Your step by step instructions were very helpful. Thank you!
Hello, I just wanted to send you a huge thank you for your video! I am a 52 year old female who just replaced my garbage disposal with the help of your video. Your video made me feel super comfortable. Thank you again!!
In case you are wondering if this video is still making an impact on the DIYers, it is! It is exactly what I needed and what I was looking for. I have the confidence to replace my daughter’s garbage disposal. Thanks for such a great video!
Hey I'm a 55 year old woman - and not that women can't do this stuff - but I never had done it in the past, but I changed my first garbage disposal today using your video. Thanks so much, your video was very very precise and detailed (you didn't miss a thing) with all the helpful hints, it was great. Thank you! Good luck with your new house. I bought an old house too. If I can fix things myself, it'll save me loads of money :) Just one thing I'd add for old folks like me - put a box or old phone books underneath the disposal before you unhook it because it's heavy and it'll fall. I put a gallon sized paint can underneath the disposal. It was helpful not only for disassembly but also when I was trying to screw the new one on.
2023 Feb 12th, I watched your video and got the job completed in about an hour. It’s my first home and first time replacing the disposal. Great video with all minute details. Good work!
Ditto on all your top comments. I agree! I'll be coming back to your videos for all my projects from now on. Thanks so much. I did it all by myself, but only because you walked me through all the steps. Thanks again and keep helping us out. We need you!
I just bought a new disposal today. I have such a hard time getting anyone to do anything for me so I figured I might give it a try tomorrow after I go buy plumbers putty and clamp connector. It looks doable after watching you do and explain strep by step directions. Thank you for that. I have a few other projects in the make of installing a ceiling fan and a new kitchen light fixture. I'll see if you have a video on that.
*I use the equivalent of a piece of broomstick and go from the top, between the blades and pivot to free up. It's easier than going under to use the allen wrench. That said, you have absolutely made the best video. Love the step by step with visual. I have the exact disposal and installed it in 2018. Did not replace the flange. Now it's time to replace the unit, but I don't remember wiring it, lol. This time, I thought I'd try a slim-line and replace the flange. I will also have to remove the power cord to hard wire. Easy peasy! 63 female who doesn't want to pay someone to do things I can figure out. UA-cam has always been my go-to. Next!
Your video is awesome. Thanks to your easy to follow instructions and not skipping over even the smallest steps, I was able to replace my wired in garbage disposal. My sweetie is great at many things, but repairs like this are more in my wheelhouse. You made this 55 year old woman feel very accomplished today.
Thanks. I was struggling with the removal portion. Followed your steps. Popped off like a breeze. 15 mins later, new, working disposal installed. Happy wife, happy life!
Our disposal went out over a year ago, and I had been dreading doing it, but after watching this and taking my time, I did it with no issues in a couple hours. Btw, I’ve been binging your videos for a few weeks now since discovering your channel. Great content, delivery, and editing.
Hey, I'm a new subscriber! I recently tried to mimic this in a nursing home while watching the video upside down. They had four wires going into the garbage disposal unit and it looked like a small barbecue grill with the legs on it. I probably don't have a job anymore, it didn't go well.. but, I still sat here through 26 minutes of video because I want to support you!
Thanks man you gave all the right advice. Grandmas old disposal said installed in 1998! It was a insinkerator and I honestly don't know how it still ran. The only real problem was the seal had warped and the plastic around it wasn't holding a seal. It only had a small leak. Impressive tutorial straight to the point. First video I found too! Cheers!
It was a brutal battle, but the battle was won. The existing switch was a standard on/off underneath the sink next to the disposal. My first action was to swap the switch for a switch/outlet combo so as not to have to modify the Waste King 3300; just plug it in and have it run by the new switch. After I did that I had an open neutral I couldn't figure out--a voltage detector indicated there was current running through any cord plugged into the outlet, but nothing plugged in would run. After I asked an electrician friend how to fix that, he said I'd probably want to go with a GFCI combo switch, but he didn't think such a thing existed and my idea probably would not pass code. So I set about hard-wiring instead. The hardest part was cutting the cord out of this particular disposal model, as others have mentioned around the Internet. There was a very tough rubber strain relief for the cord I ended up Dremel-tooling out bit by bit so the resulting hole wouldn't be mangled and thus would take another strain relief for the new wiring configuration. After some modification of the existing BX housing I was able to get everything installed, and so far, so good. Again, many thanks for the inspiration!
YAY!!! I installed new garbage disposal for the first time watching your video!!🙌🙌 Admittedly i did not trust this was same as mine so i read instructions and then watched each portion of your video and you were lined up exactly the same! I will trust you completely next time!!! Running dishwasher to test for leaks. I so freakin happy 😁😁 Thank you thank you!!
Thank you for the video!! It was very well put together and you described everything in just enough detail for me to follow. I was able to replace our hardwired garbage disposal all by myself!
I’m very impressed you were able to fit a stainless sink flange to a cast iron sink. Insinkerator sells a longer flange for porcelain and cast iron kitchen sinks.
Thank you!!! I was so scared of the hard wiring and could hardly read the old labels on my electrical box. As a precaution, I got one of those pen volt testers (I tested it on like 15 things before even TRYING to touch a wire!) Following your instructions made it super easy and now I have a garbage disposal again!! Keep up the great work!
Thank you for the detailed instructions, it was my first time changing one out. I will say the hardest part was the snap ring re-install....that was hard to understand completely. I also had pvc directly in my way, so wasn't as easy as sliding in under the sink. Great video, keep it up.
I replaced my old disposal about a year ago, because the one from the previuos house owner rotted out underneath. I didn't know they could do that! I'm so glad I saved the money and replaced it myself. It was SO easy. Good ol insinkerator swap out. I also had to label my own circuits. Ugh. I have a flex joint, also.
Thanks so much for this video! I thought mine was broken and while shopping new ones at Home Depot I learned you can use the allen wrench on the bottom to unjam them. I did this when I got home and it freed it up but didn't fix the problem when I flipped the switch to turn on. I was about to give in and buy a new one so I started watching this to learn the install process. Your tip on pushing the red reset button did the trick! I didn't see it when I was under there before and now you saved me $150 or so. Thanks!
Thank you so very much!!! Your video was exactly what I needed to remove the broken disposal and install the brand new one. Your step by step guidance was so helpful and empowering for this 56 year old single mama. I feel so accomplished!
DUDE!! This was the greatest video I have ever watched! Now I will be able to remove and replace the garbage disposal in my friends condo. I am definitely a subscriber now. Can't wait to see what other videos you have done. Great detailed explanation of the step-by-step process needed to do this project. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! I have never done fixed anything in the home, a complete beginner, but I was able to change my hardwired garbage disposal thanks to you. Great video!
Thanks for this video. Your detailed step by step instructions were clear and very helpful. The only grief I had was with removing the old disposal, as its attachment system was completely different and that meant the outflow plumbing didn't line up with the new disposal. But I eventually got it sorted out. Thanks!
10/3/23 - Starting from the beginning. PU, that kitchen needs renovated! I’m sure it will be beautiful. (Finding the breaker. I’ve plugged in a sweeper. When the sweeper goes off you have the right one. A radio would work too!) 🤓🤓🤓
Thank you for posting this video! I wasn't sure I was up to the task of changing out a disposal, but your video made it look so easy. I got it done in no time.
Thanks a bunch for the excellent video. I watched it and thought, "I can do this". A couple of tips. A power screw driver makes dismantling the old one much easier. If you're removing a really old unit, the bolts on the discharge pipe are a 3/8" hex head on Insinkerators. They will probably be a bit rusted, use a socket to break them loose. When cleaning out the old putty, a standard tall kitchen trashcan should fit under the sink. It'll catch all the junk that falls down.
Glad you checked the power with the tester. Although you shut the breaker to the receptacle, it wouldn't necessarily mean the power to the disposer is dead. The disposer could also be on a separate circuit.
OK, this is nice. Our garbage disposal just bit the big one. I was reluctant to install a new one myself because of the wiring (it's hard-wired like this one), but now I think I can do it! I may even replace the top flange pieces as well.
Thank you so much for this video. I watched so many of them and yours was the most helpful. I have never done anything related to plumbing or electricity before. With the pandemic, the family is resistant to hiring a plumber to change out a broken and leaking garbage disposal. Mine was completely rusted over so I had to use WD40 and some screwdrivers to get the old disposal out but after I got it out, I followed your video the rest of the way. Thank you, thank you!
Thanks Fixer! This is a big help. I have a hard wired garbage disposal which was totaled due to a broken glass. First American warranty won't cover the repair (since it's unnatural materials...not food) so I'm going fix it myself. And I canceled my First American warranty.
Great Detailed and narration on this video! To answer your request: It appears Moen does supply a cable/connector with their disposal (removing need for cable tension clamps).
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Bravo!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 At the risk of sounding like a broken record, your treatment of this job was superb! Thorough, step by step instructions and the workview shots were incredible! Thanks for taking the time to put this together and for sharing with the class!😁 -100
The best and safest way to install a garbage disposal is with an electrical male plug wired to the disposal that is plugged into a GFCI outlet installed under the sink. Hard wiring the disposal directly to a circuit breaker is a bad idea compromising safety. When there is a problem or replacing the unit no searching for the circuit breaker just unplug the disposal. From my searching for a new disposal I found all of the good ones already have the electrical plug attached to them the units came with multi-year warranties. Thank you for your very nice video showing how to replace a disposal.
I bought one that can plug in into the outlet, Can I somehow make the plug into a hard wire because I do not have the outlet under the sink. Thank you in advance. This video is by far the best from others.
I watch several videos and I got to say yours is number one thanks for sharing. One thing I did learn is I never punched out the hole for the dishwasher so I don't know how in the hell the water was getting in there all along. But anyways great video
Thank you for the kind words. Makes me very happy. I'm not sure about you not punching the hole out... maybe you bought a returned disposal and someone luckily already punched it out? You would definitely no if it was blocked up. Anyway. Thanks again for watching!
It's professional videos (spot on, in depth, great camera angles) like yours that put a little extra on my table. Hope by mine and the friends I've told to subscribe, puts a little more on yours. I work for a place in lieu of a one bedroom apartment. Every time I can do a job (inside the apartment) that would have gone to a pro, my boss pays me close to what they would have gotten. So, thank you THANK you THANK YOU!
Just a few months ago I was replacing my disposal (2nd time) and decided to go with a significantly larger unit (1 HP) than before. That meant that I actually had to do a bit more adjusting on the plumbing to hook up to it, and that's when I discovered the builder had GLUED the compression fitting to a depth of several inches (note; I'd come across this particular plumber's "shortcut" in previously in the house). Had to take a hacksaw and cut out the line leading to the disposal and rebuild the entire thing.

3yrs old but absolutely perfect. This made my Saturday chore easy! Thanks!!
That is awesome to hear! Thanks for letting me know, Robert!! Happy to help!
You Rock! This was by far the most detailed video for this installation. I installed it myself and I’m so excited because everything works 👍🏽
Old video, I know, but still greatly appreciated. This will be a resource for many for as long as you keep it on yt.

Changed my garbage disposal by using your video as a guide today. Straight forward and to the point. Thank you very much!
The reset button info saved me. Yours was the first video to talk about the reset button. Thank you 😊

Your Video was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! I have looked at videos for almost 2 hrs today, and yours by far is the best. THANK YOU!!!!!
Craig Taylor thank you! Very happy to hear that this helped you out!
Tomorrow I hard-wire a Waste King 3300. The Fixer, you have given me confidence, so bless you, my friend.
Great to hear! Let me know how it goes!

Thank you. Off to The Home Depot to get my disposal. Would not have attempted going this alone without your excellent tutorial.
Awesome. Thanks for letting me know. Happy to help and thanks for watching!
Your audio play by play was much more helpful than a musical track like I saw on some other badger 5 videos. Thanks.
Thanks so much!!

I wondered what that well loved looking allen wrench was for. Thank you for posting this video, you saved us $100+.
Thank you! one and a half minutes of your video saved me tons of time and money! Much appreciated.
Glad it worked out for you and thanks for watching! 😃
Thank you for the detailed instructions, it was my first time changing one out. I will say the hardest part was the snap ring re-install....that was hard to understand completely. I also had pvc directly in my way, so wasn't as easy as sliding in under the sink. Great video, keep it up.
Alen wrench trick fixed my garbage disposal. Thanks a bunch for adding that tip!
6 years later and this video still helping people. Just installed my garbage disposal with the help of this video and my father in law. Lol
Glad it could help!
Absolutely perfect directions. Yes boys... a woman hooked up a hardwire insinkerator. Disposal. No issues perfectly explained and demonstrated.
Awesome! So happy to hear that, Susette! Thanks for watching. I am so glad it helped out!
Thank you so much! I have never done fixed anything in the home, a complete beginner, but I was able to change my hardwired garbage disposal thanks to you. Great video!
Awesome to hear! Happy the video helped! Thanks for watching!
Excellent! Thank you for making such an in depth, step by step, fool proof video! Installation was a breeze ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Jason Tutko thanks so much for the kind words and for watching!!
Thank you! I'm a 105 year old woman and I was able to do this myself.
This video was very helpful! I was able to replace my garbage disposal without any issues. Thank you for making this video.
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this video. Your detailed step by step instructions were clear and very helpful. The only grief I had was with removing the old disposal, as its attachment system was completely different and that meant the outflow plumbing didn't line up with the new disposal. But I eventually got it sorted out. Thanks!
thank you so much!! your instructions were so helpful and clear! your energy was so calming! you helped me replace my garbage disposal today!
This was perfect step by step. I changed disposal types, so had to modify dw connector (used flexible joint similar to yours). Thanks a whole lot!
10/3/23 - Starting from the beginning. PU, that kitchen needs renovated! I’m sure it will be beautiful. (Finding the breaker. I’ve plugged in a sweeper. When the sweeper goes off you have the right one. A radio would work too!)

I successfully did this today. This video was exceptionally useful. Thanks!

Great tips! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video! I was hesitant to try this on my own but you showed everything in great detail and explained how easy it really is.
Glad you checked the power with the tester. Although you shut the breaker to the receptacle, it wouldn't necessarily mean the power to the disposer is dead. The disposer could also be on a separate circuit.

Great to hear, Neil. Happy to help. Thanks for watching!
Just finished replacing my disposal. Thanks for the walk through. It was really helpful!
Another great DIY video Mr. Fixer. Thank you for your attention to detail instructions.
Thanks, Audrey! Hope the video helps out if you ever need to install a garbage disposal! Thanks for watching.
@@TheFixerHomeRepair Yes, I will be confidently "reinstalling" my new disposal thanks to you Mr. Fixer!

Very nice job walking us through. I'm confident I can change out my old disposal now. Thanks!
Just replaced mine thanks to you! Thank you sir
Nice video. Good lighting, good editing good camera angles and very informative. So good now I have to do my own garbage disposal...LOL 😂
Thanks so much for this. Couldn’t have done it without these very clear instructions.
Thanks for saving me tons of money. Very detailed!
Thanks, Penny! Very happy to hear this helped you out!
Thought I was getting ready for a replacement when I found this video. Turns out I just needed an allen wrench and the reset button. Thanks.
Awesome! Happy to help!
Nice I am pretty confident that I can change a disposal now. Thank you!

Great tip Ernest! Thanks for watching the video!
Thanks bro a lot of these videos they don't explain it like an instruction book but you got game you should do more videos As Always God Bless 🙏🙏
Thanks for the video Dan. Really helpful. If you do find leaks though, what is required to fix them? Retightening , positioning, more joint compound?
I bought one that can plug in into the outlet, Can I somehow make the plug into a hard wire because I do not have the outlet under the sink. Thank you in advance. This video is by far the best from others.
Very, very good detailed video. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you …. the snap ring !!!!! Thanks for letting me know about this 😅😅😅
It's professional videos (spot on, in depth, great camera angles) like yours that put a little extra on my table.
GREAT.F’N.VIDEO. Thank you.
Thank YOU!
Thank you so much, just swapped mine out and kept the old mounting bracket. What a great video. Ps, they still don’t come with clamp connectors. 🤦🏻♀️
This video is clearly instruction. Thanks
This helped a ton. Thanks.
Very happy to hear that, Vincent! Thanks for watching!
GREAT JOB, EASY TO UNDERSTAND. THANK YOU!
