Lol Just the other day I talked to a girl at my school and she said "Well I tried to go vegan but the only food I ate were peanut butter cookies. After a week I got really sick and my mom made me eat meat again so I guess the vegan diet isn't for me" And I was like ARE YOU F*&%ing SERIOUS.
^they never thought of it, wait, yes, they're too tired from vacation pleasure to think of it. oh well... maybe some of them do... slowly... as more mic's become :)
I thought I'd seen the most ridiculous arguments against going vegan, but this article takes the cake. Vegans intake too many antioxidants?! Give me a break.
Tbf, your body does intentionally use oxidation as a strategy for defense.... This also applies for inflammation, but I really doubt this is high up on the list of worries for almost anyone
Ooh, pea milk. My BF is allergic to soymilk AND almond milk so we'll have to try that. (Rice milk is gross.) But I won't be eager to tell people I drink "pea milk".
You keep saying that one should consume organic produce, but what about how they fertilize it? I've understood that they use more animal by products in organic farming. Have I misunderstood?
Can we expect DHA video soon ? I'm wondering how much our body produces it, how much of ALA is converted to DHA and whether or not we need to supplement it with fish oil :)
Amazing man, I'm so glad I found your channel! As a recently turned vegan, I really appreciate the information in your videos, and all links to the research you talk about. I feel much more well armed with the facts, should anyone try to debate the benefits of veganism with me. I only hope one day soon that more people can begin to see the light!
The Logic of this article: “Vegans dont eat meat so they have to eat more oil.“ Just because vegetable oil(or other foods) is vegan it doesnt mean that vegans HAVE TO eat them or that omivores DONT eat them. Im pretty sure that most omivores eat more oil because they roast their meat and they don't care about their health anyway.
Wow I'm so glad you included that information about phytates. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent soaking grains because I thought phytic acid was evil.

Interestingly just saw at my university's faculty of health sciences faculty day a study where they measured the viability of osteoclast cells in cowpea digests and soy bean digests. They showed osteoclasts (which break down and absorb bone) were less viable in the digests of these plant based digests, suggesting bone degradation will be decreased on diets including them. Pretty cool
I love this channel so much! I was vegan for nearly a year and was in the best shape of my life. Then life happened along with a small stint in jail....pretty fucking hard to be vegan without starving in that environment. Im in a much better place legally speaking but have regained all the weight i lost and feel sick and lethargic constantly, watching these vids has given me tons of inspiration. thanks!
You must be some kind of vegan computer to search and study all those papers you quote on your videos...or maybe I'm too lazy? Anyway, thanks for another great video!
I actually feel embarrassed when people ask what I'm eating for lunch and I've accidentally slipped and said "mock meat". That sounds terrible. I need to get better at this, lol.
Sorry I don't know you until recently, but looking by the thumbnail of your latest video (I haven't had the time to watch it) care you vegan or in transition or not? just curious 😃
+EurAsiaNikki haha, don't worry, I don't, so I'm going to watch it. And thanks for answering me! new subscriber;) and congratulations to start your journey. I add well starting.
Hey ;) I don't think it's embarrassing at all. Sometimes I have mock fish or chicken burger or mock pepperoni and I'm not concerned about admitting this in front of non vegans. Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with having something with similar taste or texture to meat which is not meat ;) I mean, after all people like meat because of the taste and if you can have the cruelty free meat tasting meal why not have it? It's them that should be embarrassed for having animals killed for them to eat even if they can have same or similar thing without cruelty.
+Mic The Vegan you're the only famous vegan I know who really attacks the B12 propaganda. I've been hugely disappointed with the so-called vegan leaders not only staying silent about farm animal supplementation and B12 in water but even going out of their way to stress that animal products are (and always have been) the only way to get B12.
Second video I have to comment on and this is simple: Bravo! Your ability to debunk the junk is pretty impressive. As a newer plant-based eater, you're cementing why I went um, vegan (did it for health, thank you very much). Your videos are informative and I appreciate the amount of work you have put into putting out the facts. Keep up the great work!
Great video, as ever! I was wondering if you had plans (or maybe already have done) a vid on the effects of dairy using the latest research. I know many vegans are still using the "milk leaches calcium from your bones" argument (most recently in Australia, a well-known paleo tv chef used this and got shot down in flames by the medical and scientific community, making us all look bad) I'm having a hard time finding an up-to-date concise argument to replace this. Thanks Mic, love your work.
I have this feeling your videos really help me take this little step from vegetarian (mostly vegan already...but outside pizza with cheese) to a full time vegan. Thanks and keep it up!
Deforestation to accommodate livestock grazing is serious issue in the Amazon but also here in Sonoma county, Northern California - where we have a lot of dairy farms. We've been told to see the grazing cows as picturesque when in reality there should be trees growing on the mile after mile of bare hills that used to be beautiful and produce oxygen, and capture rainwater... sigh...
Love this. On the B12 bit: in the past, it may be that we absorbed vitamin b12 via pond or lake water while we waded, or swam. B12 can be absorbed transdermally, so I think this is a reasonable hypothesis.
Hay mic ,i used to eat meat around 1-2 months ago and im kinda new to being vegan.i really get confused when it comes to what i need to eat .i did watch a binch of vides for vegan recipies ,but my mind is all over the place .it wold be amazing if you cold just list all chemicals i need as a vegan and what foods contain them and maby what vegan foods i shold avoid . I recently had the peamilk.... It's incredibly thick and nice for a plant milk... Makes great ice cream and sauce base... Like you said large ingredient list but for what it is it's nice.
Thing with phytates, correlation is not necessarily causation (you know that) it could be other factors in the phytate rich foods good for bones. Also I think its clear that phytate rich diets lead to poorer Zinc absorption relative to low phytate diets. (*ok you mentioned that)
Re: the processed mould. It’s called Quorn, it’s a massive, massive industry in the UK, and it’s amazing. Low in saturated fat, high in protein, suitable for people allergic to soy, and hey, mushrooms are technically from the same family.
Ok, THIS was a good video. Lots of objective, cited facts about the health benefits, there was a lot of empirical evidence to support it, THIS is a strong, compelling argument. More of this, less of the appeal to emotions & subjective / non universally shared moral baselines. This is a good and productive approach to take. Keep going with THIS.
Somehow I had missed this video, saw it now. Very good as always, needed as your videos are with so much ill logic against veganism all around. Kudos and thanks. 👍😊.
Ah I'm on a youtube binge of purely your videos. They're so educational! Side note... do you know of any forums etc to talk about vegan topics/meet other vegans other than posting on youtube? I'm way to intimidated for that at the moment. Thoughts?
I am working on plantspace.org which is exactly that. I cover it at the end of my DHA video. I am making it precisely because I don't know of a good place to go. vegan reddit? Forums like these? www.veganforum.com/forums/forum.php
Hey Mic! What about people who would like to be vegan while having kidney failure? I am a hemodialysis technician and our patients are encouraged to eat as much meat as they can stomach as their protein levels are always too low. They also have to avoid certain nutrients like phosphorus, potassium and even calcium because we cannot properly dialyze those out for them. Is it possible to have a healthy vegan diet while on Dialysis?
Thank you so much for this info. I will say that my Brother did have a hard time keeping weight on (for the first time in his life). Boy would I love to have that problem!!! I will say that when I was Vegan I was at a healthy weight without trying. And for the first time in my life, my cholesterol was under 200. I am going back to a Vegan diet NOW. Its not easy giving up dairy! But the more I am reminded of how awful it is for us and even more so for the cows, the easier it is. My brother did end up going back to an "average" North American diet slowly but surely. :-( I added back Dairy and then Fish only. But now I'm going back to Vegan and I'm excited about it. : ))
If i went to a grocery store, what are the names of all the produce and all the supplements equal to a 1 inch new york stake and cost. So I could switch to Produce.
Hi Mic. Huge fan. I (think I) have an example of a "time when a vegan diet wasn't good for you". A colleague of mine suffers from calcium oxalate kidney stones. I can sense that he wants to go vegan, but says that the high oxalates in plant foods with protein, prevents/excuses him from going vegan. He has cut out meat (because he agrees with my vegan arguments), but still consumes 2 eggs everyday as a source of non-oxalate protein, and drinks cows milk, as replacements are also high in oxalates. Can you help? Thank you SO much for all your videos.

That's very odd since many studies have shown animal fat and protein consumption to be very hard on kidneys.
People eating a WFPB diet with lots of variety typically have better protein levels than meat eaters
