I recently purchased a Boss Katana 50 MKII and I was thinking that the lead and brown channels sounded like absolute crap. Thank You so much Dave for making this video! I did the factory reset and now it's absolutely amazing! Thanks again, you're an amazing player. Love your videos.
You are so good, Dave! I love that you are so open and honest about your anxiety about the Andertons vid. Really I think David Gilmour would be proud to hear someone who captures that space verb bluesy tone, with your own flavor! I wish I had someone like you to jam with.. At 35 years old, I am just learning to play guitar for the last year or so! I need a friend that will jam with me, even if it’s not guitar.. Keep up the good work! Great to see someone who is using affordable gear.. Like who has 4-6 grand for a guitar! I love Anderton’s videos and staff; but it’s still a music store so not always realistic to buy the “best” most expensive USA amp/pedal/guitar etc
My God !! Dave when i listen to your music it takes me to a place away from where all the Bad stuff is,,i close my eyes and i just Drift away,,,,its awesome..Thank you

Dave, your creativity and passion are so inspiring.... Now I understand why we had such different first impressions. Stand up guy for doing a re-review! Be a great addition to the Boss Artists team! 😎👍

Is that only in Mark II? :) Thanks again and all the best!!
Hi Dave, this video is a godsend. I just bought the Katana 50 MK2 and felt it sounded too sharp and thin, was a bit disappointed up until that point. However, since seeing this video and giving it a factory reset, it has come to life, thanks a bunch and again great video! Your playing is extremely inspiring.

I have an older v100 icon and the neck is spot on to my old Gibson slim taper neck. I wish it had a maple cap not just veneer over mahogany. It's great. I really think that as the wood ages more it may develop that Gibson l.p. grunt. Maybe if I put 1megaohm volume pots in it the grunt will happen. The Afd model has a proper maple cap
Bought my Mk2 new and it had old firmware on it so I updated the firmware through a rather complex procedure and it sounds great to me. I did comment on your original comparison video where the Mk1 did sound a lot better but a reset or firmware update seems to sort the Mk2 out very well.

I bought a Mk2 and your previous video gave me some buyer's remorse. I had no point of reference with mine, and thought it sounded fine, but I wondered if I had made a mistake. I'm glad you experimented and followed up. I use my PC to control mine and it's exclusively a practice amp and for capturing quick ideas via USB - I use a Mesa MkV-35 head for live, I'm happy with the Katana Mk2. It's a great little amp loaded with features. Oh, and your playing is absolutely inspiring. Glad I found your channel, mate!
I watch a lot of reviews, and they’re full of wannabes trying to show how cool and individual they are. This guy doesn’t even need to try. You’re thorough examination and demonstration of tone possibilities really set you apart Dave.
Factory reset also saved my Line 6 Spider IV 75 Watt . Sadly only I can hear the difference as I am not up to playing at your level Dave so keep my efforts in the shed :). As the saying goes what happens in the shed stays in the shed. Great playing as always - one day Nick Oswald will make a reasonably decent guitar (rather than the bloody brilliant ones he specialises in !).
Fooking British, too good!! Dave this is a so completely great video. This is the most inspiring guitar video maybe ever. I just love your phrasing and timing, of your playing, just the best, so much fun and great technical playing. I'm gushing so I'd better stop. I know this is 4 yrs old video but I clicked on "Buy it now" yesterday, waiting on delivery of my KTN 100w Katana MKII Head. (I'm in the MKII camp)
If I had to guess, gain somewhere around 9 o'clock to noon, EQ all at noon, blues driver (im assuming stock setup, not edited in tone studio) cranked and reverb to taste. Master cranked and volume to taste. Strat on the neck or middle pickups and you're golden. But experiment with having the blues driver on either the clean or crunch channel, if crunch turn the gain down and on clean turn the gain more up.

Dave you saved my tone! My artist mk2 was sounding harsh and fizzy to the point of a meltdown! Lol. Nothing I did changed anything! Then I watched this and boom! Amazing difference! I’m Inspired again! Thank you! Subscribed and love your channel! Your the man
Just got mine today and I’m trying to copy your clean settings from the first video and this brown setting too. That blues driver is awesome and my favourite drive so far
Very cool ...(fix) info on the reset 🤘🏽. I’ve a had a few bits of gear that get fussy until ya just start fresh with a good ole factory reset. just remember to write down the settings for any user presets you really like 🤘🏽
That was awesome and thank you very much. Been thinking on this amps ever since they came out. Wish you had the New Artist MK2 with the Waza. Great vid and awesome playing..✌
Dude you are awesome😀your finger tone (as in your actual personal finger tone ) will make any amp sound good, but I do know what ya mean the katana is a great sounding amp,so thanks for this run through😀
Welp! I bought the MK1 last week. I’d be lying, if I said your video didn’t affect my decision. Regardless, I really like it! I’m sure the MK2 is great too. My initial reaction while listening to the two is that the clean is a little nicer on the MK2. Also, the “Variation” knob will let you better fine-tune the EQ while playing live. I think of it as a “bright” switch, if you will - separating your lead from the rhythm. Cheers!
I tried a 100 mk 2 in a store and although it had life... the volume on variations was much lower than on original modes. Store returning it to Boss. Now that I have gone into tone studio and customised cabinet/speaker resonance and noise suppressor on my mk1 100 Katana. It is the soulful beast with the minor tweaks I wanted. Thanks for another fab video, Dave. I too love my mark 1.
Nice to hear that it's as good as the MK1, makes my buy feel better. Gonna buy this amp and a telecaster mim from fender as my first electric guitar. Been looking at stuff for months now in preparation. I also have to say that you and Marty are great inspirations!
Unless I want dual effects switched I dont seem to care much for this amp ..Im keeping my MK1 100 Watt, the speaker is already broken in it sounds great , this amp sound great too but seems brighter and more digital sounding, something in the power amp section I suppose , we all have to keep these amp in perspective and remember these are not tube amps, but the Katana is the ONLY solid state amp I would ever buy. .. but I would be interested in seeing how the MK11 takes a speaker swap.
Your passion and commitment to squeezing out every last drop of tone from the guitar is fantastic to witness. I'm not half the player you are, and I certainly don't play with such fire, but maybe I can learn a thing or two from you. The Katana MKII seems very nice too. I'd probably buy one if I didn't already have so much stuff taking up space here.
Thanks for the tip. Just picked mine up today. After doing a factory reset I also updated the software. Mine wasn't up to date. After holding [tap] and powering on mine was [green, off, off, off, off]. Current 1.01 version is supposed to be [green, off, off, off, green]. After updating it's now showing that. Press & hold the PANEL button and turn the power on. The BOOSTER/MOD, DELAY/FX, and REVERB indicators start to blink while the factory reset is being processed. Release your finger. It takes approximately 20 seconds to complete the factory reset.
MatthewDean .....I read some post other places saying the MK II sounded more treble and lacked on bass. But, if you factory reset, you may get some of that bass back....making it sound closer to the original great sounding MK I.
...by the way i updated to the newest firmware. if you press the tap buton while power up the amp the reverb and booster light should light in green then you have the newest fw. if not, you should do the update ...if you want ;)

Thanks so much for this Video. I have a mk1 Katana Artist and has been wasting sooooo much time on my computer when I should’ve been just dialing it in like you and jamming. I’ve saved your Chilli Pepper base tone also. Thanks once again

Just getting back into playing again. I stopped for like 12 years. Wish I never stopped. It’s like I’m starting all over again hahah
@@thedavesimpson Whats the heads up my man? feeling the same in regards to mk1 v mk2? I ask as its hard to find the mk1's anymore....so if its about equal now...i'll likely go mk2...Any thoughts? Oh! and have you heard of that 10yr old lad in Australia called Taj?.....He reminds me of you...in the sense that he plays with so much feeling..similar to yourself.
Only relatively recently found Dave but I'm glad I did. I love his enthusiasm for playing and how much he enjoys it. It's almost like a child's wonder at times. I'd love to hear him let loose with all the stuff he's not allowed to play thanks to UA-cam. Keep rockin' it Dave.
To this day one of the best videos I've seen on UA-cam is your Katana 50 review. You were so into it you barely remembered to stop playing long enough to give a review. I think I smiled for days after watching that one.
I got $300 and want to get either a pedal or the MkII to go with my Katana 50. To spend that on one pedal seems insane. I like the buttons better on the MkII for doubling the effex. I could then play it stereo and if I ever hook up the Tone Studio to them, possibilities would be endless. So how to explain this to my wife, I don't know. We need a video Dave of what you can do with TWO! We may all go nuts over that joy😇.
I’m pretty well set to get a second MK-1 50 to go stereo with stereo out pedals. I’ve experimented with my THR-10 as a second amp for stereo. its just stupidly good .
Stop fighting the urge Dave, now that you have the Mk 2 go for it. So much better on so many levels. Power amp in, stereo with another Mk2, five effects at once versus 3!. Have fun!!!!!!! BTW..Wish you were my next door neighbor her in the USA, we could have glorious fun jamming!
That was one of my suggestions doing a factory reset, glad it worked. Happy Days. Your settings are so extreme, interesting. Well Done and thanks your for The Katana MK II Show, bloody brilliant!!

Happy 4 U Dave just got one myself.Happy New Year 2020!
Thank you very much. : )
Got my katana finally yesterday heheheh!!!!! :D thx for all the good explanation Dave!!!
Wow, what a show! That intro was sick!
Thank you very much. : )
fantastic to hear you got a result...katana v2.0 should be as good or better than mk1.0
Can't wait till mine arrives. In other news, did you see who (re)joined RHCP?
Wow!! Dave, that was some playing man. The Katana after the reset sounds awesome! Thanks for the video. I shall be saving up to get the 100 watt Mk2. Music sure helps me to cope. Be well my friend.
Thank you. :)
That intro came from deep down...I’m floored
Thank you very much. : )
Dave you are an incredible player.
Thank you very much. :)
Thanks so much for this Video. I have a mk1 Katana Artist and has been wasting sooooo much time on my computer when I should’ve been just dialing it in like you and jamming. I’ve saved your Chilli Pepper base tone also. Thanks once again
Thank you. :)
Dude ! I just found your channel and wanna say thanks bro. Your playing is sick ! You can tell you play with feeling and you got soul man. Love it ! You make that guitar and this amp sing ! Just getting back into playing again. I stopped for like 12 years. Wish I never stopped. It’s like I’m starting all over again hahah
Thank you very much and it will come back in time. : )
Please do another "vs" between this and the mk 1
why do you need that? it's the same amp with more features
@@milkandmeat in the comparision was clear that isn't the same, it would be interesting to see if now with the factory reset sound exactly the same
You can compare the two intro solos. Spot on I'd say.
Shall do. : )
Dave+Katana MKII...got to say that sounded incredible!!
Thank you very much. : )
Thank you very much. : )
To this day one of the best videos I've seen on UA-cam is your Katana 50 review. You were so into it you barely remembered to stop playing long enough to give a review. I think I smiled for days after watching that one.
oh my, that intro jam. my oh my.
Thank you very much. : )
A masterclass
It's official, I need an Umbrella Corporation t shirt and whatever that yellow Kool Aid is your always drinking.
I’ve experimented with my THR-10 as a second amp for stereo. its just stupidly good .
top notch playing Dave
Thank you very much. : )
Nizzle!!!
Thank you very much. : )
Please do an updated comparison between the MK1 and MK2. Still sounds a bit bright.
Very nice demo, and as always great playing.
Thank you very much. : )
Why hasn't a large music retailer or name brand product mfg. grabbed Dave as a Product Demonstrator?
Richard Hessian Dave is to honest mate, for that job you have to be a bullshiter and Dave can’t do that.
A large retailer, a name brand product company or maybe even some of the biggest bands in the world that might need a guitarist. The guy just jams!
probably because he isnt a pretty boy type, hes a raw, real deal guitar slinger!!!!
Year on and now hes a chapman artist so proud
Maybe Dave doesn’t want to be a product demonstrator. 🤷🏻
In every Dave vid there is a moment when the shackles come off. It happened here when the phaser was set to stun. It did.
:)
That was one of my suggestions doing a factory reset, glad it worked. Happy Days. Your settings are so extreme, interesting. Well Done and thanks your for The Katana MK II Show, bloody brilliant!!
Thank you for the Factory reset idea. I am very very grateful.
Thank you very much for watching. : )
You're freaky awesome! I don't like those lifeless guys on yt but you are like atomic bomb :D You're full of energy and excited of the topic you are referring to us. Thank you for being yourself. Keep amazing tasty playing.
This genius dude Dave would rock a washing machine! Man you are super personable and make me laugh with your humor! I would love to have you as my guitar teacher! Visit us in Switzerland!
Good to hear you fixed it. I was thinking what the f˚˚k Boss.
Bloody superb intro, Dave
Thank you very much. : )
Hi Dave... I was thinking very hard to order or not MK2 after your review. And of course, it was a big NO from you, but I ordered it and it sounded very good.. and I was thinking, likely yours is just defective. So, I'm very happy your MK2 is back to life!!)
Me to and I'm glad to hear you like yours. : )
@@thedavesimpson I had a hard time choosing between 50 and 100 though, for my ear 50 sounds just a little bit better (warmer) - but Line Out and FX Loop got me (don't know if I ever be using it, but still :))
Thanks for your help!
To me it sounds better than the mk1 in this video
