I was born in Aruba, from 5 yrs old to 15 yrs old grew up in Dominica went back to aruba,at 17 yrs moved to st.croix ,virgin islands ,so I am a true Caribbean man, now living in California disable veteran, i will always remain a true Caribbean man
My father had all his records. I grew up in Trinidad. My parents were from Trinidad. I miss Soca music. Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just discovered it again.
@@goenthusiast6761 That's why that person said to Trinidad and to Byron Lee. You must be Jamaican for trying to make a distinction...you people are always trying to elevate yourselves. Sickening...

When it comes to Byron Lee and the Dragonaires, you can close your eyes and select any tune on any album. Great man, real great. Background music always tops the rest!!
Byron Lee made this white guy in the middle of farmland in Michigan buy steel drums, and now I am probably the only pannist in the county 🤣 Thank you, Byron!!! My wife is Aruban though, so maybe that had something to do with it...
so many memories of this great music while i was in the navy and ashore in Jamaica , Trinidad etc. Byron, Sparrow to name a couple . bless them always and forever.
I'm in my early 40's. This is my parent’s soca. Sweet soca. I grew up on the tail end of this, and the modern stuff like Hinds, and Montano...But old school soca conjurers up memories of backyard bbq's and picnics in the park from a time past.
It's amazing how one comes to know something. If I hadn't been a fan of British murder mysteries, I never would have known this band existed-or heard their music. Thank you, Death in Paradise for using this music, and thank you Byron Lee and the Dragonaires for creating it!
@Medic Webber: Nice comment! Be advised, however, that Byron Lee did not, necessarily, compose the music that he produced. He took the best music from each Trinidad Carnival, improved it with "big band" music, used his own singers (sometimes), and created albums from each carnival. GO E

Byron Lee was another wonderful musical protege of soca music, who made the 'steel pan' instrument a melodious form of livening up the soca making it sound joyful. May he have a blessed peace where ever he's at.
l love calypsos. Give me some of Lord Kitchener also.
