I agree. It is important to build the foundational building blocks of good technique to allow for effortless phrasing and music-making down the road. Technique is an important part of teaching/playing piano that is for everyone of all ages, and should not be neglected in the first lesson.
Yeah I'm not sure why youd want to create a habit youd have to retrain out of later on. That kind of goes against the advantages of having a teacher over just self teaching, is literally because you are at risk of inadvertently building bad habits when self taught that you don't notice until it's firmly engrained and suddenly starts holding you back
