Ahh good memories of my sw20. I also had a 91 turbo sunroof! I remember doing the valve cover gasket. One of the worst jobs I did was replacing the intake manifold gasket, such a tight fit! I remember breaking the oil level sensor black plastic float while resealing the oil pan too! If I remember correctly, you can Frankenstein a gen 1 lexus es300 oil level sensor to work. Such a love/hate relationship with the car.
I always found it best to remove the trunk lid if I was going to be doing a lot of work in the engine bay. Was pretty comfortable to be on my knees in the trunk area.
Doing a coolant flush on these is always blown out of proportion. Just get a bleed funnel run the car for 15 minutes and you will have most of the air out. Let cool, and repeat about 2 more times and you're good. Never had an issue with either my NSX or MR2 this way.
Thanks for the input. But as a counter point, in your 45mins with set up and coolant mess clean up, on an MRS I can use my Airlift tool for 5 minutes with zero mess.
Ezekiel, I’d love to see more footage of you doing some of the servicing, like the battle garage brake kit upgrade for the 86 you recently posted a video for.
I can attest to the coolant service being a long and complicated affair. I decided to convert my '93 Turbo to waterless (lifetime) coolant to spare myself the ordeal of doing a full flush again.
I would rather work on a MR2 than any other vehicle. Nothing is a nightmare, it's all a beautiful dream compared to anything else I have every worked on. Just need to know what you are doing.
Had it for 4 years. Broke. No spot to work on it. No good tools. Yes. It’s a pain. But I cannot give up. Want to bring it back to life, minor bolt on mods, suspension. 1992 MR2 Turbo with the sunroof
Just be thankful you didn't have to change the hose from hell. 🤣 If you've never worked on them before I can understand you may think they are difficult, but they really aren't once you get to know them.
Luckily I saw the hose from hell had previously been replaced! And yes, Im sure like most cars, the most difficult task becomes mundane once you've done it a few times.
Looks so much worse than my aw11, everything in the way and that subframe is just taking up space. Makes more sense why people say they are a nightmare now.

Likewise, such a cool car, but also such a pain in the rear! (Pun intended)
I love these old SW20's. I have owned so many over the years and still have a soft spot in my heart for them. Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed the video and got some nostalgia out of it! Thanks for the watch!

Great tip! There was plenty of "leaning over for an extended period" back pain while this car was at the shop.
Love the mr2 turbo
Just dont love working on it LOL!

Like actually working? I cant promise that one as it is hectic during shop hours with no room for mistakes, much less time to film.
wow that sw20 has been there roughly for a month since I last visited. But damn it's nice. I def love this sw20 though.
Very clean and stock example indeed.

Coolant service never gets any easier or is any less of a mess on these cars no matter how many times Ive done it.

You must be a German/British/Italian car technician lol.

Good luck!

100% Majority of my experience is with the AW11 and MRS. The SW20 may as well be an alien concept car compared to the other two.
