The Kickstarter for "Gigantic Miniature", the miniature-filled, dungeon crawler, app assisted new board game, is launching later this month! I'm sure there will be tons of unlockables and add-on expansions too.
Mansions of Madness = subscribed. It’s a great game to light some candles, launch the app, and play a campaign. I wish there were more games like this… I can’t find anything, in any genre!
I got Middara and Tainted Grail myself, superb pieces. I really need to get Mansions of Madness myself, I've been flirting with the idea for a while now.. Thanks for the video!
Very well selection of games! With ‘ridiculous’ I thought I would see miniatures games such as War for Chicken Island or Dodos Riding Dinos but I see why you picked these!
I'm in recovery from my addiction to buying Kickstarter games based on a) the amount and quality of miniatures, b) the size of the box and c) the number of shiny shiny stretch goals. Multiple Zombicides, BloodRage, Hellboy, DarkSouls, Massive Darkness etc, the list goes on. I'm glad that Games Workshop large box format board games always sell out so quickly as I can largely resist the core 40k and Age of Sigmar systems, but fill a box with plastic, high quality printed card and a rule book and next thing I know I'm working out whether or not the children can get by with their slightly too small school shoes for another few months. Thoroughly enjoyable video, thank you.
I too, greatly value chunky games with tons of miniatures and nice, thick, glossy-printed board pieces. I'm a total sucker for miniatures, the more in the box the better!
YAY, more board game content!! My most epic game is Gloomhaven. We completed the base game campaign and started into Forgotten Circles, but I also have Jaws of the Lion on the shelf, too. Second place would probably go to Battles of Westeros. I own everything that's available for that game, which means I have a LOT of little plastic soldiers!
Your numbers 1 and 2 are my "prized possessions". Hahaha. I KSed those two and felt the pledge amounts heavily in my credit card as they were back to back. I went all in on both of them. I do not regret the purchase. Both are great games, with each offering a different gaming experience. And the minis...are amazing.
Go ahead and jump into Cthulhu Death May Die, each scenario is a one-shot, your characters are essentially going out in a blaze of glory/madness so you can play scenarios in any order, and with any boss.
I skipped this video a few times, because in my mind "Ridiculous" has a negative connotation and I thought you were going to talk about games you didn't like... But It was a great video! Looking into reviews and thinking of getting a few of them now...
What a wonderful concept for a video! It was great fun. I appreciate how you admit that you bought some of these just for the art value, not the game value. It does seem that the hobby is approaching a shark-jumping moment -- I have thought about that since seeing reviews for Cthulhu Wars, where the minis seem to be so large that they block out the map. I appreciate good minis -- thank you CMON for demonstrating the market for that! -- but some of these made me laugh and shake my head. And that last one -- OMG, as the kids say!
I love that games are pushing the boundaries of what 'miniatures' are! I hope to see even more elaborate ones in the future. If I had one actual issue, it's that I wish not all of them were Chtulhu themed. I know that Elder Gods make for great sculpts but give me some giant robots please! Maybe I regret not getting Giant Killer Robots while I could...T_T
There are some really cool miniatures in the Monolith Conan Board game. It faded away a few years back but I have some of the sets and look for more when I am visiting new game shops. And there is a tie in book available for using the miniatures and the boards with the Modiphius Conan RPG (which is a really great game). Mansions of Madness is a blast and I love the using the miniatures for my Call of Cthulhu games. And I want to mention the Horrorclix Great Cthulhu before I sign off, that one is my largest miniature, though still small compared to the Death Must Die sculpture.
I own 2 of the 5 and am kicking myself for not kicking the rest. Great video!! I have already painted my Mansions of Madness minis.. they were fun to paint and base :)
I have KDM 1.5 I've got the gamers latern pledge (all expansions etc but no pinups) I still haven't tackled the lonely tree as it looks super hard to build. love to see you build and paint one of the expeansions.
I am still working my way through painting my Kingdom Death Monster Miniatures. To do them Justice takes and inordinate amount of time. KDM is aa blast to play as well. I want to get you to 100k subscribers just so that mini gets painted. Challenge accepted.
Really awesome video. Thanks for sharing. When I hear people say things like, "I got this for a show piece," or, "because I really like the miniatures." It breaks my heart. LoL 💔 I eventually wanna pick up Kingdom Death, but I can't justify buying a board game thats over $400.
Not going to lie when I saw that Cthulhu piece drop onto the table I realized how big my eyes could get and how long they could stay in that position without blinking.
Another great video! I think my top 5 for miniature based board games has to be… 5 - Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps. 4 - Village Attacks. 3 - Dark Rituals: Malleus Maleficarum. 2 - Mansions of Madness. 1 - Marvel United. Now I know Mansions probably has more stuff in it than Marvel United it’s just I loved the minis more in Marvel United, so it gets the top spot. Keep up the good work!

@@HobbyNight Understandable! Brimstone would take up a full 4x4 kallax if I didn't have everything stored for transport and play, instead dominates the top of said kallax.

Speaking of owning ridiculous board games. Did anybody own Battle Masters back in early 90s? It was a miniature army game. You didn't get a board, you got a big 4 1/2 x 5 ft play mat, I had to play on floor. There where like 100 miniatures that came with it too. It was a massive board game as a kid.

Aww, seeing Imperial Assault at the start made me hope you were going to talk about it! Having been slowly collecting everything for it and it really has a lot of content, not as much as Descent but still quite a beast! I love the skirmish mode that it includes, which made me jump into actual skirmish games as Kill Team, Frostgrave and such. I owe a lot to Imperial Assault!
That's the trouble sometimes with these big box games, finding a consistent group for them. T_T I'm really hoping with Decent Legends in the Dark releasing soon that maybe that means Imperial Assault will be next in line to get a new edition. Sadly I don't have super high hopes for that because of Legion, but it would be neat to see what the designers did with it now.
@@HobbyNight At least it still seems the Imperial Assault content is being reprinted , but in all honesty, I didn't like the new Descent so I wouldn't enjoy a redesign of Imperial in that same style of gameplay
Death May Die is an absolute blast to play. I have everything except the gigantic Cthulu and one of the investigators but it doesn't take away from the enjoyment. My only "complaint" would be that the map tiles can be a tad small at times and when you get a lot of Cultists on the board or fight the Black Goat of the Woods, you'll see what I mean. The scenarios are replayable which is very fun to do and since the combat is dice driven the game can sometimes hinge on a good/bad dice roll. I saw there was a kickstarter for some comics that included new investigators and some cards for the cultists that changed their behavior slightly. I missed out on those but maybe someone else has those and can talk more about them. Anyway, it's a great game and you and the Chaos Cultist would really enjoy playing it.

It was Zombicide S2 that got me into this whole mess.
New subscriber here! How did your channel fly under my radar? You had me when your love for anime shined through like a beacon of light. Great content.
Board game as art piece is pretty much why I backed the Court of the Dead: Mourner's Call Kickstarter. As well as the Tainted Grail Kickstarter, if I'm honest.
I’m currently in a Mansions of Madness campaign. We’re basically just going through every mission. If your character dies, it’s removed. If you go insane three times it’s also removed. My most ridiculous board games I own are Mythic Battles Pantheon and Joan of Arc. The next most ridiculous is going to be Mythic Battles Ragnarok. But it hasn’t shipped yet. :)
OMG! That Forbidden Stars box!!! I'm looking for that game for years and prices are too damn high! BTW i just subscribed to see this large Cthulhu "miniature" painted :D
I play literally everything on your list (and the intro) except Middara, which is probably going to be added to my collection soon. Fun thing about Death May Die is that the scenario plays very differently depending on who you choose for your big bad, so the campaign is very replayable. If you're interested in more miniatures games and hate your bank account, I recommend Cthulhu Wars, The Gods' War, Planet Apocolypse, Bloodborne, and Mythic Battles: Pantheon.
Picked up the Hellboy boardgame from Mantic when it was on Kickstarter. Came in a huge box. After going through it the first time I realised I'd missed an entire layer of minis. Once lockdown is over I might even have a chance to play it!
Try Battletech. It is split for affordability purposes. To have a complete set you need: * Battletech beginner box * Battletech a game of armored combat (boxset) * Alpha Strike Commander's edition (rulebook) * Mechwarror destiny (rulebook) Destiny is a very simple role playing game. Suitable for role playing beginners and if you do not want narrative to be interrupted by excess of stats management. It has lots of pregenerated characters and missions and has a list of vehicles. Beginner box has simplified rules for tabletop beginners. Alpha Strike is an alternate fast paced set of rules useful for massive tabletop games or when you have little time to play. The two boxsets seem like one boxset split in two for affordability purposes. The magic of Battletech is not in the eye candy, but its gameplay. I get bored with tabletop games easily. Not with Battletech. I find it intellectually stimulating. There plenty of additional miniatures on the way and there are plenty of novels and lots of expansion rulebooks.
@@HobbyNight There are 2 types of role playing games for Battletech. "A time of war" which is like a DnD in terms of having lots of stats. "Mechwarrior destiny" is a very simple role playing game that allows more narrative and less stats. If you want tabletop only, that is fine. If you want storytelling, you may choose between one of these systems.
Cthulhu: DMD is a fantastic game, but it's not a campaign. There are no links, mechanical or story, between games. The special scenario with the giant Cthulhu isn't an 'end of campaign' and is not actually very good, but it doesn't matter. It's still hilarious playing a game on him! And the main game is always, always really fun.
@@lemsdarkapprentice2535 It was a completely separate add-on during the Kickstarter. I'm not aware that it's available separately now, but it was certainly never part of the main game. I think the scenario that goes with the model is just meant to be a bit of fun. It can't work the same way normal games work.
The gf and I played through the entire tainted grail base campaign and its by far our favorite game now definitely play it! But be ready to fuge some rules...
Loving Lords of Hellas at the moment, which has some ridiculous minis. Wish I'd got that big Cthulhu, at the time I thought it was too expensive and now Death May Die is one of my fave games and I regret not going all in. It's not a campaign though. nothing carries over from one scenario to the next.
I have all the top four games mentioned. I just bought them for the miniatures still unable to touch start painting. Another worthy mention would be Altar Quest which has tons of minis.
At the start of the year, I was staring at my horde of unbuilt KD models. I ended up selling about 50 of them for insane profit and built the other 70 or so. I still have another 50 or so to build. I only made two mistakes building and those were easily corrected. So, go for it and build those things! Now to get some paint on them. 👍👍✌️
ok I thought I had some.. but mine were all in her first picture that didn't even rate.. ouch.. I guess I am too small time LOL.. I wish I would have done DMD and got that Mini, but just couldn't at the time.. I hope they do a 2nd edition at some point.
@@HobbyNight Yeah It would be great, and I know a lot do 2nd editions, but I have no idea if CMON does that I know they did Zombicide, but it was a pretty drastic 2nd edition.. more like a reboot... which I would settle for maybe if it was good :)
I don’t own anything that can compete with that absurd Cthulhu statue (sorry, I can’t call that thing a mini!) the closest my group has is probably Shadows of Brimstone. That game has so many expansions and so much add-on content that it takes three trips to bring it in from the car when we take it anywhere to play, and one of our friends had to build a campaign system for it just so we could make sure we actually got to use all of the monsters and locations that were added on.
The 1 game that interests me the most, the one I probably never get, is "Deep Madness", because it's ridiculous expensive, even though you get a lot, which also is a problem, it takes a lot space for storage! 2nd one will be "Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood", quite the same, but here it's the way of storytelling that seems the most interesting. Both have excellent miniatures, which is important to me, though not THE most important aspect. Both look over the top borderline crazy.
@@eldritchmorgasm4018 they will have a reprint this year, keep an eye out, maybe just get core. I think it was $75. Its pretty tough, but very thematic. Very exciting
@@VincentBalmont Yeah, I heard about the reprint, and I want it because it looks great, and is more horror than just action (you can't just shoot every enemy)
I'm excited to start playing Middara. I have about 8odels left to finish up on it! The minis are....well not great, especially if you are used to gw quality. But still a great game
Cthulhu: Death May Die is also the #1 in my collection, but sadly I only own the retail version. Makes me wish I hadn't missed kickstarter. Another game I can recommend that has insanely beautiful art and miniatures: Etherfields. On miniatures: Get some silicone putty and something like miliput. Take molds of the miniatures and make miliput copies. Test your skill on the copies until you're confident. And if all else fails, just prime them in skeleton bone or any light beige tone and dip them in quickshade. Makes them look like ivory figures.
The retail version, if you get all the expansion is pretty much everything except the expansion that includes the big Cthulhu correct? I got really lucky because I did not put in on the KS version for C:DMD, the full game was gifted to me buy an overly generous friend that knew I love miniature adventure games. And I thank him for it! I will have to look into Etherfields, I've not heard of that one before.
A suggestion: If you really love a miniature and want to paint it, but don't think you have the skill, _paint the miniature_. If you don't, you'll either never think you're "good enough" or by the time you get to where you are confident in your skills, you won't love it any more. Use the enthusiasm that you have as motivation to keep going when the figure reaches the ugly stage (as they all do) and do your best. Then, with your increased skills, pick up another miniature you love and do the same with that.
Miniatures companies are always making more miniatures, and you're going to love some of them. Always. And life is too short to be painting miniatures you don't love.
For the amount of money she has spent on these games... I think she can hire someone if its a real concern.

Don’t know yet if it’s the host, or the content - or both!
Thought that this Cthulhu-"Mini" is the First Player-Marker.
New subscriber here! How did your channel fly under my radar? You had me when your love for anime shined through like a beacon of light. Great content.
Welcome aboard! Thanks for watching!
I really hope u get to 100k subs because I would love to see that big lovecraftian behemoth painted.
I hope so too!
Board game as art piece is pretty much why I backed the Court of the Dead: Mourner's Call Kickstarter. As well as the Tainted Grail Kickstarter, if I'm honest.
Court of the Dead was a very tempting one for me, only because I thought the minis looked rad.
Been trying to get HATE for months with no luck, awesome that you got your box!!!
I was lucky and my FLGS backed the game and so I was able to reserve one of their copies. I wish you luck getting your own copy!
@@HobbyNight THXZ!!
i wanna see you buiild and paint minis please !!
That last "miniature" is as big as some of my prime1 statues 😂
Zalig (lovely) here 10000 likes to paint the last mini 😎😂
I got a love and hate relation with Hate ... so I bought it 😎
I love board games with great minis. I had Mansions of Madness First Edition and painted it up. It looked great on the tabletop.
Me too! 💜 Oh nice, that's awesome!
Cthulhu death my die is awesome I missed the Kickstarter but I got it now
Nice, thankfully CMON made most if not all of it still available even post the KS.
17:11 i mean at that point that is a small statue rather than a miniature xD
lol basically yes. That's what I thought when I saw it too.
That 'blooper' at the end was Magnificent!!! Your face was priceless 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was mortified!
@@HobbyNight 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Awesome review! Up to my neck in GW, was good to see other games, think I'll check out Middara. Would love to see you airbrush Cthulhu!
Middara has some fantastic minis!
You don’t know how much I appreciate your correct pronunciation of the word “aesthetic” lol 🙏🏼
You're welcome!
Would be great to see those awesome minis painted up! Great video as usual
It's something I would love to start doing more of!
Grail looked cool.
The science of Marketing did a good job ...Thanks for the video.Do we need such huge games...rhetoric question :)
Have you seen Legends of Signum? It is medieval fantasy with some steampunk. The detail and art is the pinnacle of the hobby imho.
I have not! I'll have to look it up.
When I started watching. I had a feeling what number one was going to be.
I was soooooooo tempted by the Bloodborne Board Game. I love the video game and I adore gothic horror so it's so my jam. Maybe one day.
Picked up the Hellboy boardgame from Mantic when it was on Kickstarter. Came in a huge box. After going through it the first time I realised I'd missed an entire layer of minis. Once lockdown is over I might even have a chance to play it!
I can only imagine. The only think I own from that game is the Krampus miniature. It was just too cool!
when you pulled out that Middara campaign book i involuntarily gasped "fuuuuck offfff..." LMAO
I got all the minis out of the box the first time and it was so heavy I thought there was a huge stack of tiles I'd missed then I got the bible out!
@@HobbyNight have you been able to ever get through a game of that beast? i don't think i ever would
I've not played it at all yet, and I'm not sure I will. I grabbed it for the minis and the art! XD
Try Battletech. It is split for affordability purposes. To have a complete set you need:
* Battletech beginner box
* Battletech a game of armored combat (boxset)
* Alpha Strike Commander's edition (rulebook)
* Mechwarror destiny (rulebook)
Destiny is a very simple role playing game.
I already own both the beginner box and core box for Battletech! 😊
Gloom haven is 22.5 lbs, IIRC. About what one of the boxes for office paper weighs. I… lug many of both, quite often.
Weird flex on that Cthulhu figure since that's not even part of the game, the miniature version is.
does the huge cthulhu figure come with the game? or do you have to order it separately?
@@lemsdarkapprentice2535 It was a completely separate add-on during the Kickstarter. I'm not aware that it's available separately now, but it was certainly never part of the main game. I think the scenario that goes with the model is just meant to be a bit of fun. It can't work the same way normal games work.
great vid have subbed. :)
Thanks for the sub!
The gf and I played through the entire tainted grail base campaign and its by far our favorite game now definitely play it! But be ready to fuge some rules...
That doesn't surprise me to hear! lol
Cool collection.
Thanks!
Modara has nothing on Advanced Squad Leader or some of SPI's old monsters, although I agree with the aesthetics angle
I've seen Lords of Hellas around but haven't look into it much yet. I'll have to check it out!
PAINT THOSE BEAUTIFUL MINIS!!!!
I assume you will use the Cthulhu "miniature" as a Warlord Titan proxy?
Nurgle Titan :)
If he wasn't attached to that base, I would highly consider it.
I have all the top four games mentioned. I just bought them for the miniatures still unable to touch start painting. Another worthy mention would be Altar Quest which has tons of minis.
I bought them for the minis too....well, all but DmD, that was a a too generous gift from a friend.
Death May Die is great! Take a look at Deep Madness - it’d fit right in this list.
I just learned of this game, I am going to definitely check it out!
Glorantha the Gods War is my fav “big”ature game.
Dude yes, that is also a massive game. The boxes were giant!
ok I thought I had some.. but mine were all in her first picture that didn't even rate.. ouch.. I guess I am too small time LOL.. I wish I would have done DMD and got that Mini, but just couldn't at the time.. I hope they do a 2nd edition at some point.
I have no idea if the R'lyeh Rising expansion will be re-printed. It would be cool if CMON ever did.
@@HobbyNight Yeah It would be great, and I know a lot do 2nd editions, but I have no idea if CMON does that I know they did Zombicide, but it was a pretty drastic 2nd edition.. more like a reboot... which I would settle for maybe if it was good :)
Loving Godtear right now
I've heard great things!
One of my co-workers adores Shadows of Brimstone, I should get him to teach me to play some time!
I got everything for the Cthulhu Wars except Big C.... never been able to get him.
Another game with absurdly large minis!
Great list!
Thanks!
I love the list....By the way Cthulhu death may die just made it onto my list!
Sick!
Ever heard of Core Space First Born seems like it might be a good one.
I have not!
That Cthulhu is awesome. I've always wanted to see a scale-model of him. He's supposed to be a couple of hundred feet tall.
Oh gosh, or even bigger! XD
Deep madness isnt expensive, u can get the core and 2 expansions for $120. It was my fav game until middara
@@VincentBalmont That's not cheap, but quite alrighty, way less expensive of what is around here in Germany
I actually had not heard of Deep Madness before, off to investigate!
Angela’s Top Five….That’s What She Said Moments!!!
I'm excited to start playing Middara. I have about 8odels left to finish up on it! The minis are....well not great, especially if you are used to gw quality. But still a great game
Ah, angela. The gnarliest nerd crush I've ever had lol
Cthulhu: Death May Die is also the #1 in my collection, but sadly I only own the retail version. Makes me wish I hadn't missed kickstarter.
Another game I can recommend that has insanely beautiful art and miniatures:
Etherfields.
