A call to our ancestors and all Indigenous peoples, Awake and hear the voice of our ancestors, stand strong. Maori in New Zealand are facing another colonial government who wants to strip us of our rights to be who we are. All Indigenous peoples of the World have faced the terror and decimation of our ancestors, including many European peoples like our brothers and sisters of Ireland, Scotland and Wales all are victims of colonialism.
Time for us to stand against this government many of us of pakeha are with you on this as we have family that are Maori we must not let them divide us and stand together there racist attitude and make the leave if the dont like the fact we are part of one another.
Stan is australian born,New Zealand raised of Maori heritage,Maori are the Indigenous people of Aotearoa(New Zealand) I am, it captures the essence of who me are, our culture teaches us that we are not just the physical. our Whakapapa(geneology) connects us not just by blood, it is our Iwi(tribe) our Hapu(subtribe)Our waka(canoe our anscestors travelled on during migration from Hawaiiki) our Maunga(our mountain) our Awa(river) our Whenua(land) our Tipuna(anscestors) our Reo(our language) and our Marae(our meeting house), all of this is our identity and our wairua(our spirit, what remains of us after we are gone), and is extremely important in our maori culture.

@@forreez Nice ❤️ I was trying to think if any other songs or music styles made me feel the same way, and there just isn't any. I might feel the music or love the voice or the lyrics, but my hairs won't stand on end or I wont get goosebumps. Im honestly surprised when people overseas get that feeling though. I thought it was a kiwi thing.

He comes from Tamapahore Tauranga Moana lines. I come from Motiti island off the coast of Tauranga Moana. Same line. My daughter is named after Tamapahore's daughter Paretaihinu. I think that he's spent a lot of time in Australia like me since 1982. A credit to New Zealand and the Maori nation.
Wonderful reaction FavoriteIslandGirl! Stan is extraodinary, and with a calling for his Maori people. Stan originally became known after winning Australian Idol when he was 18. Stan's story itself would make a movie. As part of that Stan has a rare gene for stomach cancer which has killed many people in his family . He is now 33, but was diagnosed with 17 tumours in his 20s. He has had to have his stomach removed and didn't know if he could sing afterwards as the stomach is directly under the diaphragm. It's a little different but still amazing. I had the same reaction as you and I am old and white, but not fully knowing my Indigenous origins. This has made me want to know and seek out more. New subscriber from another island, Australia. New Zealand is extraordinary. New Zealand Maori culture is once more under threat from a change of Government and I Am will give them a personal Anthem and bring their cultural attack to the eyes of the world. Duvernay is asking for an Academy Award nomination for remarkable masterpiece. Our Maori brothers and sisters need all our support. Well done IslandGirl. Looking forward to many more reactions from you and I wish you much success for your channel.
Greeting in the Maori culture involves the touching of noses and breathing in of each other's Wairua (spirit). You cannot get closer eye contact than this. Certainty is key in Maoridom. When your eye's are certain that the person opposite you comes in peace, then you close them and rub noses breathing in each other's Wairua. Open your eyes and hug. Two people, one mind. I think that this works in every culture. Maori have ways of keeping it alive.
