- My all time favorite German donut is the Krapfen, aka "Berliner" which is very similar to an American jelly filled donut.
You can find the most exotic Krapfens in January/February but they have the traditional Berliners all year around at most bakeries as well as the supermarket.
If you're living in the Stuttgart area, you gotta check out the Berliners (along with other pastries) at Bäckerei Konditorei Café Renz - www.cafe-renz....

They are seasonal because people like pastries that are baked in deep fat more in the cold months than in summer when fruit cakes are more popular. And that means they are often eaten at Christmas and of course at New Year's Eve parties. And that means that you have to be careful when you bite into them as it is some kind of prank to have asked the baker for one or two that are filled with mustard instead of fruit jelly or jam. The guest who gets it will then be the target of good-old German "Schadenfreude".
Would love seeing more German bakery's. Thanks
More bakeries 🥨

Germany has the worst baked goods.
That's not a donut. It's a berliner. It ist just as much not a donut, as a donut is a berliner.
The town I grew up in had them year round. My favorite!
