No, the AI in this game is not that great. If you can reliably get a Pokemon out that can do 30-40 damage, you're almost guaranteed a win. The Grand Masters have slightly better AI, but they also rely on RNG. All of the Legendary Cards have effects that damage any Pokemon in play at random, including their own. I've had many times where the Grand Master I was fighting played their Legendary Card and ended up KOing one of their own Pokemon.
Plus you can easily memorize what cards appear, and with "skip some" selected in the config, you can get a pack in just 3-4 minutes. The only problem is not getting the energy you want.
If I'm just trying to get energy, I'd rather get it quickly. I can see why people would like to test their decks out on him, but you can do that with basically all other opponents, and have a more challenging fight with others.
The interesting point about Sam, he can be defeated quicker when Staryu is choosen first and than Goldeen, because Seaking can kill Raticate before Sam can switch it. Turn 1. Staryu gets Energy and deals 20 damage at Machop -> Machop fights back Turn 2. Goldeen get involved into Seaking gets Energy and Staryu deals another 20 damage -> Machop kills Staryu Turn 3. Seaking gets Energy kills Machop -> Raticate deals 20 damage to Seaking Turn 4. Seaking deals 30 damage to Raticate -> Raticate deals 20 damage to Seaking Turn 5. Seaking can get the Potion optional and kills Raticate This means, 3 turns less than the tutorialsetup needs with 8 Turns.

Hey Jared, not sure if by now you have finished recording the game, but just in case, you can go back and fight the dude in the lab from the begining and he gives you boosters with nothing but energy in them. This playthrough inspired me to play this game again. Ive been farming Imakuni and Water Club members to build decks and its going pretty well. Coin flips are still just as annoying as ever, though.
I just finished the game just then. I was lucky with 4 Scythers 2 lapras and a kangaskhan they are so good i put the booster back articuno just it basically works as another set of lapras. I just found 10 basic pokemon is more than enough.
Hey Jared, have you ever considered doing a Bug only playthrough of a pokemon game, kinda like how Commander Holly did a Birds only playthrough of Pokemon Sun a few years ago? Love the series btw! ^-^
I did all bugs on fire red and that was my most difficult playthrough other than all dittos. Beedrill is terrible, parasect gets destroyed, pinsir was carrying everyone. Venomoth and butterfreee were fast enough to spread statuses and get some damage in, scyther is overrated for regular playthroughs.
@@MoarCheeseBirb I did a bug only run for Black and White. Actually really good, Escavalier, Leavanny, Scolipede, Galvantula and Volcarona were a really solid team (sixth slot was hm slave Swanna). The hardest challenge run in my opinion is unevolved (but using mons that can evolve, so no going like Kangaskhan because it technically isn't an evolved mon).
I used to use that Lickitung in most decks as a good staller while I set up other Pokemon; I was good with those Tongue Wrap coin flips. Many folding tables were kicked by my opponents at our local game store due to being Paralyze locked lol. And 90 HP is pretty good for a Basic; just don't expect it to kill anything anytime soon!
I played through this a few days ago and lived my childhood dream by building and beating it with a Charizard deck. I worked surprisingly well and was super consistent thanks to Bills, Prof Oaks, and energy searches to this the deck out. I used a 4/3/1 for the Charizard line then also had 3/2 Rapidash and 4 Scyther. The two non Charizard mons have a 0 retreat cost that lets you use the Switch card as a double duty full restore. iirc I ran 20 total energy 19 fire and 1 grass, the energy searches can grab the grass on the off chance I wanted to use swords dance on a Scyther.
I don't know if I ever went back to duel the guy who only gives you energy. I very vaguely remember him now that I see him. I always use to grind out cards through club battles.
not going to happen, if he was that smart in playing he would already gone to the energy guy and played enough games to have enough energy to last him a lifetime.
Volair it really doesn’t “increase difficulty” it makes the game impossible to play as intended. If he wanted to increase difficulty he’d make a z-tier deck from back in the day, he is just too stubborn to do what he needs to do and would rather slam his head into the wall over and over so we can laugh at his hardships.
I can understand where he's coming from, probably figures that having more close games keeps viewers more interested and entertained. That's how I see it anyway.
Fun fact about this game: all coin flips are predetermined the moment you start a match, this can be heavily abused by using savestates. I did it as a kid and I'm not even ashamed about it, I replayed this somewhat recently and the "elite 4" is totally imba. BTW, Computer Search and Pokémon Breeder are insanely good and pokémon like Gengar can be really useful even without energy due to their ludicrous abilities. Also, there's another Haunter card (in Laboratory packs, where the better gastly is too) that's also incredible.
I half expected Miss Editor to show Raichu getting hit with Quick Attack for the end slate. Also, if it has not been said, you need to talk to the leader but not fight him to get the email from Dr. Mason.
If anything Pokédex is a tempo builder? I can remember many a time where I’d use Pokédex to set up a Bill in my hand, or used Pokédex and had one of the cards drawn be a Bill, and setting it up to draw next turn and the two cards that come after, this early in the game it’s very rare that your opponent will have anything that will make you shuffle, and knowing exactly what is coming is a huge strategic advantage.
If you want to get energy cards quickly, do this: Build dummy decks with nothing but energy cards until you've used them all up. Then go talk to one of the aides at Dr. Mason's lab. He'll mention that you have no more energy cards and give you 10 of each type.
Jared finally found the energy trainer dude! Now when he finds out about the unlimited free energy from the other guy when you have all your energy in decks.... I don't actually find him "super easy" to fight I was kinda hoping to see you try out some of his other decks, though that may be because coin flips can make so many matches in this game way harder than they should be.
I used to think what you said about the energy in boosters was true, but I’ve been playing along on my own copy lately and I definitely got electric energies in multiple booster packs from the Water Club. Must be like 60+% chance to match though
Not sure if it has been mentioned already, but if you put all your energy into a deck and have none left unassigned, i'm pretty sure that one of the techs will give you some too. I think it's the upper right one in the main laboratory.
I'm very much enjoying this series. Seriously makes me want to track the game down on eBay and give me an excuse to actually use my Super Game Boy. Your vids have made me want to try and make the best possible Bug deck and play the game exclusively with that (they're pretty much my favorite type and I love seeing how powerful I can make what most people tend to discard as useless).
Oh jared. I almost would say you should use the poor bug deck in the fire gym, at least that deck has enough draw fixing to change the top-decking problem you constantly run into with the other deck.
FINALLY YOU GO BACK TO GET THE ENERGY BOOSTERS!!! Also, why no water/psychic deck? Psy shock barely worked in the psychic gym, and seems like it's really not the move in the fire gym. Still really really enjoying this playthrough! So good 😁
I feel its more of an issue with his deck having issues turning out consistently since he built it on the scraps of his other deck. This particular opponent needs time to set up his attackers, so if you have a deck that turns out pretty consistently you can usually have his Pokemon down before he can set them up.
@@TotallyCluelessGamer Yeah, I guess so. I don't know a whole lot about deck building, but hopefully he'll be able to make a better one now that he knows he can easily get more energy cards.
One of those times when Jared made the right decision, but maybe not for the right reason. *Most* of the time you let your attacker go down swinging in the Pokémon TCG. It isn't about having Energy in the discard pile for Energy Retrieval, but that retreating just means the *next* Pokémon is taking a hit (and if your Retreat Cost isn't free, you gave up some Energy and Energy attachments to retreat). *Plus* Gust of Wind isn't too uncommon among even this game's CPU players (against competent real-world players at this time, it was a minimum of two per deck, and nicknamed "Gust of Win!").
If Flint's team in Diamond&Pearl taught me anything it's that anything can be an honourary fire type, so those normal types are definitely fire. (I'm glad they made him actually have fire types to use in Platinum)
Rhyhorn and Rhydon are actually good cards in a rock deck. Considering you can attach just a Fighting Energy and a Double Colorless Energy, and do 30 or 60 damage on your second turn. And then if you have Rhydon in your hand, and Rhydon can use that 2nd attack, but gets poisoned or something, you can quickly evolve it and give it even more HP but still be able to do the 30 or 60 damage attack. Plus, Rhydon's Ram is a pretty good "I can one shot this one and win the game, or avoid getting paralyzed" when fighting Electric types. I'd say it is a good card.
Poor raichu didn't have to be treated like that, jared. Already suffers enough from standing in the shadow of pikachu and never getting the praise it deserves for being a more well-designed pokemon in every way.
Id love to see you swap out your psychic pokemon in this 'Raichu stall' deck for fighting types, get some sweet hitmonchan in your thunder punch deck lol
Now you trying to get packs. Well a good rule o thumb is to just duel everyone in each area. Makes sure you have a sizable amount of cards to use. It's what I did.
Pretty risky last move! If Eevee failed the coin flip, it would've died from being weak to Rhyhorn. At least with Jolteon, you would at least have an extra turn!
The problem with that is that Jolteon couldn't damage Rhyhorn with Quick Attack due to resistance. Jolteon would need at least 2 heads with Pin Missile to do any damage.
@@SuperGoker64 I think he would've needed 3 heads, but I was thinking more defensively instead of offensively, so I didn't think of it like that. I think either way the odds were against him, so I can see why he went with his decision.
@@marcosdheleno I was specifically talking about damaging, not necessarily KO'ing. Either way, Eevee was the better choice offensively, because it would be a 50% KO, 50% damage with Eevee vs. a 37.5% KO, 25% damage, 37.5% nothing with Jolteon's Pin Missile (and a 100% nothing with Jolteon's Quick Attack).
Yo ProJared, there are a bunch of cards you could be using to supplement your lightning deck in your plant deck (i.e. Professor Oak). It would be a good choice to disassemble your plant deck to make one super deck (at least until you get more cards). P.s. I used to love playing this game and its fun watching you play/

Looks like this channel is trending...
*Nice*
Happy sunday caterpie!
FINALLY YOU GO BACK TO GET THE ENERGY BOOSTERS!!!
Also, why no water/psychic deck? Psy shock barely worked in the psychic gym, and seems like it's really not the move in the fire gym. Still really really enjoying this playthrough! So good 😁
He finally found the Energy guy, took him long enough.
Now his Psy Shock deck might actually run better.
13:44 "Draw 1 card(s) from the de ."?
Also dang, that Flamethrower deck is brutal.
Jared's deck is like a tribute to celebrate Lets Go Pikachu and Eevee
I watch RWBY so the fact Jared's nemesis the past few episodes is named ADAM cracks me up. XD
Id love to see you swap out your psychic pokemon in this 'Raichu stall' deck for fighting types, get some sweet hitmonchan in your thunder punch deck lol
I want there to be a bubble bath caterpie toy. Just to see Pro Jared be happy.
24:05, Double Colorless Energy my guy.
Make card pack opening videos!!! Duel your mates!
Special guest is super adorable
Now you trying to get packs. Well a good rule o thumb is to just duel everyone in each area. Makes sure you have a sizable amount of cards to use. It's what I did.
21:30 "I wish I knew about THIS..."
_The_ _Comment_ _Section_ _will_ _remember_ _this._
3 heads, since 2 would net 40 dmg.
This game is way too funny and interesting to watch than it has any right to be! XD
Jared found someone to grind against, the music at the end should have been grinding music!
28:11 its funny how he doesnt realize that if the evee missed that quick attack, it would've died in the next round...
Richu the wall, just here to take a beating and smile.
Dude you kicked Jonathans ass. Why couldn't yesterday's battle go this well
If only Jared could look into the future from the past and read the comments...
Awesome to know you'll gather all the energy cards you need! (^^) Looking forward to tomorrow's episode!
OH MY GOD! He finally decided to get energy cards back at the lab! HALLELUJAH! Took him long enough! Now he can finally get the energy he needs to make different decks. Also, please take out some of those sucky trainer cards like Recycle, Mr. Fuji, and Revive!
I feel the coin flip is based on when you hit A the side that you see? I feel like when he hit A when heads was up he got heads? Cause I know its not random right?
instant like the video once caterpie got on the show.
Can't believe Jared got a celebrity to appear in his channel.
HIII CATERPIE
What we have hear is a textbook case of Raichu abuse. Take him away, boys.
this is still a great series
We in it to win it, boys! We energy packs now!
Yet another Cry-chu! Love it!
You could always use more energy.
Just be advised that I'm like 95% sure that guy will never give you any Double Colorless energy.
raichu laid there like a slug, it was his only defense
Have fun grinding for energy cards, see you soon in the next episode
WAIT HOLY SHIT I JUST REALIZED THE LOSING A DUEL MUSIC IS JUST THE "YOU DIED" MUSIC FROM THE ORIGINAL CASTLEVANIA, SLOWED DOWN AND MOVED UP LIKE HALF AN OCTAVE
You really need to get Prof Oak in your deck when you need to refresh your hand or when your top decking
