This MAJOR Safety Feature is Missing from Morocco's Al Atlas Trains

- Today, we are exploring Morocco's long-distance trains, known as Al Atlas, which connect the cities of Marrakesh, Casablanca, Rabat, Kenitra, Meknes, and Fes. These trains use Colrail coaches similar to those in France, but with one notable exception: the doors on these trains do not lock. Join me for a special journey as we assess the safety of these trains.

Train type: ONCF Alstom Prima E1400 + Corail

Distance: 88 km
Journey time: 54m
Average speed: 98 km/h

Morocco's railway is the most European of Africa, with trains almost identical to those in France, Belgium and Italy (sometimes bought second hand). Especially now they even have a TGV and for the foreseeable future Africa's fastest train by far. In the past they even accepted Interrail tickets and a number of adventurous travellers included that in their round trip of Europe.
Yeah, I saw that double deck regional EMU, that looks a lot similar to Trenitalia's TAF (high frequency train)...
@@gab_v250 At 3:21 you can see an electric unit identical to the Belgian AM80 Break, this is a series of 14 units delivered in the 1980s to ONCF.

Here you can see two more liveries.
From 3:36 you see the TAF.
Yeah, i agree, as some of the OHLE reminds me of what you'd see on newly electrified lines in the UK
@@Seagull81006 and similar to the new italian OHLE.
The fact that you only have 16000 subscribers while making such high-quality videos is annoying to me, you deserve so much more! Really my comfort youtuber :)
Thank you!
The doors are able to close automatically but as long as no one actually tells the doors to close they stay open.
ONCF went financially all out for HSR and building new stations in the past, so some of these coaches are maybe ten years overdue for replacement by now. The airport shuttle is even more of a disgrace. Thankfully new trains have been ordered but we'll have to wait until 2027 for them to be delivered.
Guess I'll have to come back and see what Al Atlas looks like in a few years 😊
@@Simon-Andersen absolutely! But let's not count our bogies before they hatch. These could still be around for another decade 😅
ahhh the corail coaches
3:25 Fun fact: these trains are identical to the Belgian AM80 "Break" and were NOT bought second-hand ! They were built a little after the Belgian version with 3 coaches straight away, while the original Belgian version was built with 2 coaches in the early 80's before being extended to 3 in the early 90's
I just wanted to comment that 😂
Interesting! Thanks for sharing. They import a lot of stuff here both new and used
09:33 Your fellow passengers are like “WTF is he doing”. 😂😂😂 Certainly awkward filming in a full cabin … if I knew that was going to happen I’d almost be tempted to buy extra seats. 🤔 Good video nonetheless. 👍
For sure, it is a bit awkward, but after being on 2 other full Al Atlas where the video failed for various reasons, I was determined to make this one work 😆
@@Simon-Andersen Ah. Fair enough!
There’s been some pretty big changes to the IC and IC notte services in Italy (such as a new stunning livery and new trainsets) highly recommend giving it a try as soon as you get the chance! ;)
Interesting you say that! Planes, Trains, Everything just uploaded a video on IC Notte and it's the next video I'm gojng to watch.
No plans for Italy at the moment I'm afraid. Maybe after the summer 😀
@@Simon-Andersen sure whenever there’s the chance! Maybe you could start researching on it! I believe the new trainsets (made from the frame of the Hitachi “Rock” regional train) are operating on a line in Calabria, they seem to be pretty controversial but i’d like to see a review from someone like you! (So it’s trustworthy and fair)
@@Simon-Andersen well, it seems better to let the first months of the IC/ICN rebranding go, with the increasing number of coaches being repainted in the new colour scheme.
Oooh...the buttons behind the open panel are tempting...
you are a sick dude.
Low key hadn’t noticed how little people watch these videos, this is some real good quality shi
Jeg ilsker the videos Simon.
Thanks Alfred!
Up until now, my knowledge of Casablanca has been "something something ceiling fans, some black and white movie from the 1940's". Those trains look neat.
Interesting video. Good work.
The travel between Rabat and Casablanca is better done by commuter train. It has good seats and doors. It only takes 1 min in a station. And it is mostly on time not like Atlas.
Just travelled today in coach 11 seat 11 from Marrakech to Casablanca. Al Boraq and speedboat to Spain tomorrow🙃
Hope you had a great trip!
@@Simon-Andersen yup, can certainly recommend it + Tarifa and Cadiz are lovely cities in Andalucia
Those wagons is the same as the IC1 we also use here at home for København - Hamburg just more manual clearly, old and broken too
Oh gosh, that's some quality...🫤
I rode these trains a few years back and had a great time! Gotta say though, they do NOT give enough time for boarding in Casablanca. Every time I passed through there the aisles would get packed with people, luggage, children, etc. since they just tried to cram them on board as fast as possible.
Also, what camera/gimbal do you use? These shots look great!
Thanks! I only managed to catch one train from Casablanca but it was quite chaotic indeed. I use a DJI Osmo Action 3 camera with the Extension Rod Kit
Thank you very much for this trip, I passed through my city where I live. I have a question why not take a flight from Stockholm to Lulea that will be fun, especially in winter. ❤❤
I took the train from Luleå to Stockholm last year and it was great 🤩
Moi j aime le train de nuit au Maroc couchette j ai passé un bon moment
Chouha mea had E 1400
Hej Simon, Virkelig fantastisk video!
Why don't u try the casablanca busway new service that just being realise this years it's a tram bus ❤ u gonna luv it
He's channel is focused solely on Trains.
@@kipweit9634 but if you squint very hard it's close enough right? 😆
Maybe next time I'm in morroco
😍😍😍😍😍
" like a box of chocolate" you never know what you are going to get. Run forest run.
Glad someone got the refrence!
I mean MANY types of carriages lack that thing in mainland Europe too, nothing too special
Second class is better than first class.
To speak with people, and to get entertained, time go faster and even you feel a little bit sorry the trip came to an end, unlike the boredsome first class
From that aspect sure if youre feeling adventurous, but as a big and taller guy the narrow and cramped compartments in second on these trains is too much for me.
que asco, maletas por el medio, zapatos sucios, todo lleno de gente quieren entrar antes de salir. pereza
