Qantas long haul In-flight experience

- This travel report is about my journey from Germany to Australia.
Here some more details:
Frankfurt - London (British Airways A319)
London - Bangkok - Sydney (Qantas B747-400)
Sydney - Brisbane (Qantas B767-300)
Brisbane - Bundaberg (Qantas Dash 8)
The whole journey took almost 2 days - sitting in the (to be honest not very comfortable) Economy class of Qantas. The food was ok but the seats and especially the entertainment system were not appropriate for such a long flight.

Excellent trip report, congratulations! How was the food? How was service and cabin presence of the crew? Was service with a smile? How about wines?
it's all good now man, they've updated the vast majority of their 747's with the a380 interior, its really nice - i'm going on it from bne-lax soon :)
The good news is, there will be a new choice soon. Garuda will be flying SYD-LGW with two hours transit at CGK. SYD-CGK route will be with Airbus A-330/200 While the CGK-LGW flight will be with 777-200ER (three class configuration)
What a weird routing, but every aviation enthusiast would love it.
Its a nice record of your flight; very interesting and some good film photography.
I just love QANTAS. Hope one day I get to fly for them. Just need my commercial.

Thanks for the great vid, I think this is one of the best aviation vids tht I hve seen on the entire youtube. The music was much more suitable than in other videos. I keep on watching this vid over and over again coz its probably the best one.
About 2 fly QANTAS 2 Frankfurt. Any comfort advice for 24 hrs+ in economy?

Also 5 seperate flights? That sounds like a nightmare especially after the long haul from europe. I remember last year flying from brisbane to london made me want to collapse after arriving.

I get it now... the scary music is a narrative in accompaniment to the scary in-flight food.
That small runway at the end is Bundaberg.... wind your clocks back by one hour and fifty years.

I flew from Leeds Bradford to London then I boarded a A380 and we did the same stops and you! The good was ok when were were going but coming back it was horrid! But it was a good flight and Holliday there staff and crew are very nice have to admit

They have never had a Jet fatality, but they have had crashes since they were founded. The last crash was in 1951, and there were fatalities.

Check the dates on those in-flight meals, one is expiration May 2011 the other January 2011; what could be on that tray that could last that long.
It looks like a mistake to me, or something that isn't very 'fresh'

since you were in frankfurt, why did you not just go with qantas there instead of going to heathrow?
isn't there a direct flight from Frankfurt to Sydney?

Qantas toilets I feel are actually very nice, I know on the 747s and I think the A380s the toilets are fairly spacious and have marble laminate style stuff, all very glamorous, and yes this is economy.

Was the food as unappetising as it looks?
From Frankfurt to Sydney there is a direct flight with Qantas.
I can't complain about anything regarding my return flight from Melbourne to London aboard Qantas.....except the food. It truly was the pits. Sad thing is when occasionally they served up something edible their portion sizes were puny. I guess they wanted to limit the amount of solid waste being excreted, either that or the vomit being expelled. Word of advice - avoid any fish dish like the plague - unless you want to catch the plague.

They have had fatalities, it's a myth that they don't. Having said that, the last crash was a LONG time ago, and nowadays it's hard to fault them for safety, apart from isolated incidents.
why did you have to fly to london at the beginning and then have to fly to bangkok because you flew back over where you started
Why do you keep spamming this guy's video with comment about the music and also about the food? I didn't see any reference to Frankfurt in that comment at all. Germany is awesome. When I went there, it was the best trip of my life.

Its a shame the SYD flights don't arrive/depart from T5. It is a fantastic place but I think because the flight is JSA with BA/QF they have to remain in T3 as T5 is BA exclusive.

I'm pleased to say mate that qantas's international product has improved dramatically in the last 3 years, not that it was bad at all in the first place - trust me, there are WAY worse airlines

The inflight cuisine in economy class... did it taste ok? Frankfurt to Bundaberg... you thought what exactly.... when you got off the Dash craft in Bundaberg? I've been to Bangkok, Brisbane, Sydney and Bundaberg... were you fruit picking in Bundaberg? I did... in Childers.
To get my moneys worth, I get pissed on the plane, and start playing my guitar.

Obviously, I don't deny Qantas have one of the best safety records, but it's a myth that they've never had a fatality. It was a long time ago, but a fatality in 1951 is still a fatality.

I've been to Germany and I liked Germany too... the reference was not a pejorative one. I am not spamming. Ok i know i flew economy London to Sydney and back but did the food really have to be that bad,the entertainment was boring,and if someone else knocked my arm going past me going to the toilet i was going to do jail time for throttling them.

has qantas retired their 747's since then?
Tal Mamatov they have about 11 left but they mainly fill in on long haul routes where the a380 is too big, such as Santiago, New York & San Francisco, unfortunately they no longer serve LHR or FRA with 747s

The Borscht was a bit on the garlic side of the palate... felt sorry for those who took the salad option.
