Hard to believe I was there over 30 yrs ago.First trip to Oz for this 23 yr old kiwi lad and the thing that i will never forget is how steep the climb to the top of the mountain was and coming down the drivers hardly seemed to slow down.Great memories
Best race brocky didn't win how the fuck he got to second is beyond me what a drive those jaguars were 5 seconds a lap faster than him in qualifying not sure if I'm right but but I'm not far off I don't think rip o5
The jaguars had Cosworth High Lift Valves homologated which were good for another 40 to 50 hp- They ran low revs most of the race rarely going “ over 7000 rpm “ said TW in an effort to finish - they knew the Commodores had weak engines that would not finish. Hence the Holden DNF’s were a record 18.
CommutingCyclist myself personally don't like the look of them the v 12 sounds good tho can't wait to get this whole race on dvd its just come out this was one of peter brocks best races he ever did at bathurst he was 6 seconds a lap slower than the jags in qualifying and almost won the race those last 2 stints he drove like a man possessed how the hell he managed to close the gap on those jaguars is beyond me and he qas racing with no front window or rear the drag would have been so bad down conrod straight bloody grwat effort brocky still miss ya champ
Deny Hulme was flying at the start. That car was lacking money behind it ,The guy could probably outdrive anybody on the mountain that day. He was a seriously outstanding driver. That car had nowhere near the power of the HDT cars given that .Brock was at his best that day. The jags were a rocket in a straight line struggled over the top. The scene that sticks in my mind was Johnson n the Mustang passing Richards on Mountain straight seriously struggling for power & Jim gives him a wave.
Hey vbvbvb088... would you have any access to the start of the 1997 Bathurst? I have looked for it and it doesn't seem to be posted anywhere. Wld love to see Brockie off the line in his last serious Bathurst if you did happen to have it tucked away somewhere?? Many thanks if you do!
