Most people don't know the Olympic scoring system before 2016. For a fighter to score, he had to connect clearly with only the white part of the glove located on the very top of the glove. Inside slapping punches or reaching hooks, as well as uneven inside hooks, were often not counted even if they landed. So many fighters lost by a wide margin even though they threw a lot more punches and connected a lot of time which did not count due to landing with inside of the glove during wide reaching punches or uneven inside hooks. or if they changed their inside hook since the top of his glove (only the white part) connected clean a lot more times. The taller fighter had a lot of reaching punches that landed with the inside of the glove, or punches that were partially blocked, or he had to adjust his inside hooks and did not land only the white part of the glove. His reach was longer and he did not use that to his advantage but rather waisted a lot of punches that did not count. The reason was to promote textbook punches that landed clean. Out of the 5 judges, 3 judges had to press the punch button (within one second after the punch) for that punch to count. KNOWING THAT, it is absolutely clear that Davis won. That scoring system was not always fair and therefore changed in 2016.New scoring system is the 10-9 pro scoring system and if that was the case, this fight would have been a lot closer and it would be a lot harder to decide who won. Davis probably by a small margin but not guaranteed.
