  • Deadwood is an American Western drama television series created, produced and largely written by David Milch. The series aired on the premium cable network HBO from March 21, 2004, to August 27, 2006, spanning three 12-episode seasons. The show is set in the 1870s in Deadwood, South Dakota, before and after the area's annexation by the Dakota Territory. The series charts Deadwood's growth from camp to town, incorporating themes ranging from the formation of communities to western capitalism. The show features a large ensemble cast, and many historical figures appear as characters on the show-such as Seth Bullock, Al Swearengen, Wild Bill Hickok, Sol Star, Calamity Jane, Wyatt Earp, E. B. Farnum, Charlie Utter and George Hearst. The plot lines involving these characters include historical truths as well as substantial fictional elements. Milch used actual diaries and newspapers from 1870s Deadwood residents as reference points for characters, events, and the look and feel of the show. Some of the characters are fully fictional, although they may have been based on actual persons. Deadwood received wide critical acclaim, particularly for Milch's writing and Ian McShane's co-lead performance. It also won eight Emmy Awards (in 28 nominations) and one Golden Globe.
There were initial plans to conclude the series with two special TV movies, but the plans have not come to fruition. Several of the stars have since commented that the series is now unlikely to return. HBO had repeatedly asserted that the two movies could still be made, but it noted in July 2008 that the possibility of the two TV movies being made was very slim.
The show was produced by Red Board Productions and Roscoe Productions in association with HBO and Paramount Television (CBS Paramount Television in season 3).

Her aim deteriorated somewhat in season 3 when Hearst became the target. Hearst's wound was a Marshal Dillon-like shoulder booboo and barely slowed him down.

She wans't thinking clearly or calm enough to aim with Hearst, here she probably was able to get her gun so close becasue he was beating her.

LOL Doc's morbid fascination with how the man was able to talk with a bullet through the frontal lobe and Johnny's disgust. Doc, who's traumatized from the horrors he faced as a surgeon during the Civil War has seen it all but this one piqued his curiosity.

Is he mad at Trixie for shooting a client that was beating on her? That's bad for business he was destroying the wares. He's just one customer she brings in the majority of business Al should back his best salesgirl who has the best cunt.

Al has had a weird relationship with Trixie. At the end of this episode he sleeps with Trixie, gets mad at her for banging Sol and not getting paid for it. And then were Season 3 happens he gets mad at her for asking for her old job back when she got out of the game and Al says "I aint time for whores who too fucking stupid to know when they have a good thing going" cause Trixie was a bank teller working for Alma and quit because Alma was using opium she got from Leon's bitch ass

I believe Trixie was a repeat offender when it came to killing her Johns though, all in self defense of course.
Or maybe Al was afraid to show any compassion and love for Trixie so he made a show of it that he cared more about the business than the whore.

First episode of the series had a subplot about the fallout of Trixie shooting an abusive hooplehead.
Last two episodes of the series have a plot line about the fallout of Trixie an abusive Robber Baron.
Hell of a way to bookend the show

Trixie is just a pain in the ass. Literally, another whore was later murdered for her and she couldn't shut up. Kill her here and it's over. One of Al's greatest mistakes. Of course, as you indicate, it collapses the show.

That's a really good question. I reckon it's when Bullock comes to town and the power struggle begins. Previously, Al was head honcho. But when introducing the possibility of law and order, Al has to fight harder to keep his foothold. Tolliver's presence then not only add's friction from a buisness standpoint, but also is a sign of Deadwoods growth & evolution and the commencing of Al's obsoletion. His mind stays finely tuned, but physically he becomes worn. God I miss this fucking show.

Is there a reason why Al is so well-dressed and well-groomed, but as the series goes on he seems to get more sloppy and haggard?
Look at him in this scene: nice clean shirt, vest, short hair, perfectly groomed mustache.
And as the series goes on... His hair gets long, beard gets messy, and he often appears wearing just his dirty undershirt and pants.

Maybe it's a way of showing he's opening up to his friends more. When he got sick he had to rely on them so perhaps him dressing more honestly is a way to represent he wasn't putting on the proverbial mask all the time in front of them? Or, he got older so didn't give as much of a shit.

I think it’s mainly the ways of showing stress, before bullock tolliver and hearst he had no law to worry about (bullock) he had no other saloon competition (tolliver) and then Hearst came in with the power to do whatever, I think with his plate completely full he didn’t have time to worry about how he looked physically also maybe he didn’t feel safe going to the bath house because that would be the best place to attack a person imo, surprised there wasn’t more murders in that bath house.

Its not that uncommon, contrary to what films and video games have had people believe about fatal head shots. People were also incredulous about the scene in tombstone where Johnny Ringo continues to walk for a few seconds after being shot fatally in the head by Doc Holliday. Ironically, again, actually a not uncommon phenomena in fatal shootings, including head shots. Its also worth noting that rarely, people have been shot in the head, survived and even made full recoveries.

That is not even close to being true. Oral hygiene was considerably better in the US and Europe during the 19th century than is commonly believed. The tooth brush became popular in the late 18th century. Considering the popularity of hard alcohol and the availability of toothbrushes and chew sticks, plus the low usage of sugar in their diets, the teeth of people in the US would have been in decent condition aside from tobacco stains.
