Philips certainly didn’t skimp on LED displays & indicators them days! I must admit I like lots of lights & illuminated displays on my devices which are now appearing far less on consumer electronics. They say for a more minimalist and cleaner look but probably saving money really!

I agree - really like the sea of LEDs. I think it's a bit like the modern trend of removing ports from devices - both are a sad reality of progress (and saving a few pence).

NIce V2023 . i had some off those and still have some . My dad start when i was a kid back in 1981 with V2000 it was the best they say then and have hooked up VHS BETA & V2000 in a TV Video store to compare here and at the time V2000 had best picture . so been V2000 alot here :)
Anyway those machines special all 2020 area genration 1 have issues or they work great . They can turn off any time go into recording also and the logic you had there need 2 3 sec then press play etc is normal on those 2020 - 2024 .
I do recomend the mono machines they sound best . Still fixed head for sound have it on 1 track instead off 2 smaller makes mono recordings ( most are) sound weak on a stereo machine . But to keep them running allways have power in to them . they dont like sit unpowerd months / years and then put power in them they just start act very funny with all kind off issues . . Good luck with the 2023 :)

I have to admit I do have a soft spot for these V2000 machines. I get the stereo sound versions being not so good with audio as there's a lot of analogue signal to fit on such a small sliver of tape in mono let alone having a double audio head cramming in even more. I do hear what you're saying about leaving these on too - they do seem to 'come to life' if they've just been sat powered for a while before using them. Hopefully the 2023 won't be too unkind to me but the luck is certainly very much appreciated. 😊

I'm sure I've mentioned before that I generally don't touch PHILIPS VR20XX and all GRUNDIG Video 2000. However, there is a sufficient selection on yabE in the EU🙂

You have and I seem to remember you're not a fan of the format. I have quite a few here now so feel my pain! 🤣

@@MrBetaByte I have 2 PHILIPS VR2350, but 20 at the beginning was just the first attempt at a drive.

Philips were always a bit weird in the logic department 🤷‍♂️ It's almost like they intentionally did strange things just to be different from the Japanese.

@@MrBetaByte Mind you, Grundig, ITT, etc.were much the same! Funny, though, how the Japanese brands kept things all pretty sensible and "standard", with the user-interface, and Europe was just like "nope, we'll reinvent it" 😄 "Let's call it Start instead of Play! Let's make them press Stop to turn it on!😂 Let's have a Cass button instead of an Eject, but also make them press it in a weird order, and make them press it TWICE to actually eject the tape! Our loyal EUROPEAN customers will get used to it, eventually, and it'll confuse the hell out of those pesky, unpatriotic Sony fanboys! Great Idea, Klaus. Wunderbar!"
