One of my favorite lesser-known facts about The Burbs is that Ric Ducommun (Art) was the co-founder of the classic skateboard brand SkullSkates, along with his brother, and arranged for the "product placement" of the SkullSkates t-shirt worn by one of Ricky's friends. Thanks for another great one Minty!
When I was watching this as a kid, I truly thought the movie would end with the character Art being a serial killer and was trying to get the Clopecks framed to take the heat off him. Turns out not
One of my favorite movies, thanks for covering it! The poodle, who's name is Darla, was also in Peewee's Big Adventure, Coach, Eerie Indiana and Batman Returns!
The Burbs is at the top of my favorite movie list, easily in the top 10. My wife and I have watched it countless times and use quotes from it all the time. I love how the background sounds, music, and TV bits are synched to the dialogue and actions of the characters. It's juxtaposed like the way old cartoons were made. It's a very interesting film on many levels, and I pick up new things every time I watch it.
This film is yet another reason why I miss the 80s so much and why they were so great. The fact that a zany, quotable, and fun movie like this could be made and released on the big screen is so awesone. It wasnt trying to make any sort of statement it was just trying to entertain us for a couple of hours. The Burbs definitely isn't for everyone but those who get the humor and grew up in the Burbs really love it. As do I. This was back in the days when Hollywood still knew they were in the entertainment business and not the political business
Ghostbusters, close Encounters, Jaws, Blues Brothers, Beverly hills Cop, Big Trouble in Little China, Another 48 hours, Gremlins, Stand By Me, jewel of the nile, uncle buck, harry and the hendersons, indiana jones. Tremors. Dont make them like that anymore.

Yes, and chosen carefully because a bay window is a common suburban detail and also allows you 180 degrees of site to see more the neighborhood, where Jimmy Stewarts character could only see across the air shaft between the buildings. :D

How many times have I thought of or uttered, "Red rover, red rover, let Ray go over," in my life? It was and still is a fun hidden gem from the late 80's.
I just watched this movie three days ago. I don't remember the grill on fire scene. Also, isn't the dog's name Queenie? A bay window is a type of window found on many middle-class homes of the 80s and 90s. That's probably where that working title came from.

I really love this movie. It's truly awesome, and it made me fall in love with Kerry Fisher even more.
Great Video, as usual, Minty. I hope that I didn't accidentally call you Mike again, in another video. If so, I apologize. Some of the time, I watch Top Shelf Hockey right before this & his name is Mike. Forgiven?
Can you imagine that call to ILM, "Hi, we are making a cheesy horror movie and we need someone to an effect, can you help?" "Maybe, what do you need", "Can you make dog crap?" "Oh no, we leave that to all the other production houses."
burbs , short for suburbs.
There go the goddamn brownies!

Do a deep dive in to " Real Men" with James Belushi and John Ritter.
You know how many times I've said "I like that in a man" just hoping someone would reply "what do you like in a woman?" I'm still waiting to use Belushi's response.
The one I do use all the time is "I only smoke after sex .... Eh a pack a day." Sometimes I say 2 packs. And I don't even smoke anymore.
@@D-Fens_1632 LOL I'm glad someone else has good taste in movies.
i loved it as a kid, and it still holds up to this day.
LOVE this film!! Genuinely gave a lone of the bluray to a workmate yesterday. 😇
Thanks for reminding me about this gem of a movie! Shall definitely rewatch it, the only time I've seen it was like 30 years ago and I almost don't remember the plot, but I totally remember the good sensation it gave)
Great movie! I like the touch wit Subdivisions in the background!
