The Pete looks to have a Cat model 1673. The Mack looked to have a Mack tip-turbin 300hp or the 285plus engine. The Mack most likely had a Mack 6sp giving good control to the winch. Luv those old work trucks.
When you see a Mack R-Model and/or DM model, the twin stick transmission is a 6-speed which is a 5-speed main box w/ compound gear (or it can be a 5-speed w/ overdrive). Nice find.
That gearbox is a Mack 6spd Mud stick 5 gears in reverse 5 forward gotta be extremely heavy or nasty off-road conditions for LO in the compound I would use compound LO and 1 st or 2nd gear in the main for curb pouring when I drive a DM 686 sx Mack Mixer truck perfect speed for doing curb pouring the good ole days drivers today have it made AC auto gear box nice plush interior bullshit to all that I’ll drive an ole Mack anytime
@@toddbankes445 yeah I've visited this truck before and knew it was a RD686S but forgot when I did the video Yeah I haven't seen another one like it before
@@chrismanning1746 Many of trucks tried but they fell victim on the construction site while they were turtle mode!! I'd pass them in the 3rd sometimes 4th hole in reverse dump and go! The ONLY thing the bling bling large units had on me was speed!! At the end of the day I usually had a load more!! Love a Bulldog!!
Because the truck is a twin stick my assumption is the one is either a 5 or 6 speed and the other is a 4 speed Basically a twin stick is say a Maxitorque 10 speed but without the fancy splitter that is just a switch. I hope that gives clarification for you
6 spd Mack mud stick 5 reverse gears and 5 forward the LO in the compound stick was never used except if your really heavy lifting off or nasty off-road stuff can only shift compound LO to compound HI in first gear only
I drove my friend Dave’s RD 686 sx rolloff 300 Mack with a 5 spd great truck more character than todays plastic crap

That’s a em6 285 Mack engine in that 686s one of the best engines Made by Mack the RD 685s had the 237 Mack engine
That is very cool!
I remember the first Mack I drove It took a month to figure out where to fill the windshield wiper fluid
did you find it 1 LOL
@@michaelderoche5661 Yes In the passenger door finally I felt like a complete dumbass

I'm glad you enjoyed
That is a rare steel nosed R model Mack. A DM 600, has cab offset towards driver side 11 inches. Great truck though. I want it
