"Mouse in Manhattan" is one of my favorite Tom and Jerry cartoons, and the music is the biggest reason why. The orchestration was as much of a star as the mouse in this one. And watching this performance, I gotta appreciate how hard it is to keep music timed with animation, and the conductor's job of keeping that timing.
Ah, but it's all math. Animation timesheets at 24 frames per second. Music tempo wavering around 120 beats per minute. It's all about the 'beats'.... as Carl Stalling once yelled on the WB Project CD's "You're missin' BEATS!" Easy.... like reading a spreadsheet :-)

Yes it’s my favorite as well!!!! Such a beautiful episode and the music is just a beautiful as the cartoon! Jerry wanting more from life than just the country and then he realizes not everything is as nice and decides to go back with Tom that he loves !

"Mouse in Manhattan" is my favorite episode of all time
The atmosphere of being in a huge city is so breathtaking, especially being a mouse. Moreover, I admire how the music changes from upbeat to dramatic and then ends with a heart-warming tune.
It has no story but it tells so much in just 8 minutes. I love the original Tom and Jerry so much! I can always watch back with joy

The last scene of Jerry kissing Tom is so emotional like the climax of Chaplin's City Lights. It beautifully portrays that we learn to value what we have only when we don't have it. To say Tom and Jerry was way ahead of its time is an understatement. It is perhaps the most timeless thing ever created.
Tom had been asleep the whole time and he had no idea that Jerry had visited Manhattan.

Even as a kid, this episode made me feel nostalgic, somehow. And somehow, I carried this nostalgia in my heart all this decades. The spirit of the boy I used to be is attached to this beautiful episode and its music. Whenever I watch it again, I go back to my childhood. The music from this episode is like heaven.

The music in this cartoon is a masterly pastiche of Rhapsody in Blue.
It's actually Scott Bradley's extended arrangement of Louis Alter's "Manhattan Serenade".
Those interested in composers who followed in the musical footsteps of George Gershwin should check out the other Manhattan-inspired semi-classical pieces that Louis Alter wrote during the 1930s: "Manhattan Masquerade," "Metropolitan Nocturne," "Manhattan Moonlight," and "Side Street in Gotham." They all can be found on You Tube in versions by the Paul Whiteman Orchestra. These compositions have been ignored over the years, but should be better known.

Im literally in tears, this is a pitch perfect rendition of one, if not, the most remarkable cartoon of my childhood, thanks to everyone involved in it.
This is Fantastic! So well-performed and true to the original. So much talent!It still brings tears to my eyes. --- The cartoon itself was made in 1945. All of the major sites Jerry visits in NYC are STILL THERE! Grand Central, Rockefeller Center, Wall St., Times Square, The Empire State Building, and the Plaza Hotel--- I may have missed a couple of them. It's amazing to me that these still exist and are easily recognizable 73 years later in 2018.

There's something about this episode that's just great about it. The orchestra, the artwork, the storytelling, and the message of the story; it's all perfect. Arguably my favourite episode.
My only issue is the blackface joke, but it doesn't bother me much.

This is the best classic episode of Tom and jerry
The episode and this music alone capture the awe, admiration, and fascination that every country person had when journey into any big cities and saw beautiful sight like: huge building, skyscraper, bridges, flashing color signed, cars, expensive restaurant, train....etc,
But at the same time, the episode also shows the darker side of big cities where at night, danger can come from anywhere like in dark alley way and being shot at. Life in big cities are more complicated than living in countries side.
It was just a beautiful episode from beginning to end, where Jerry realizes the error from his naived thought that he will thrived in big cities but later run back to his home. The grass is not always gonna be greener on the otherside after all, nothing can be greener as a home that you can return to.
The ending with the sign of "Home Sweet Home" as he bump into it always gave me a laugh. 😂

It is my favorite Tom and Jerry episode. Once the music start, it would bring me back to that young age. The age that with passion. Hope everyone could find his own “sweet home”

When the music is played alone with a minor emphasis on the image, it's powerful. I can sense different emotions as the verse proceeded several times. From curiosity to excitement, then hesitation, haste, finally realisation. Good work! I nearly dropped tears while hearing this.
