Captain Sum Ting Wong Most of that problem is because of budget. Fiji gives a massive rebate to the show and so it’s most financially feasible to keep the show there in the LONG term. I do miss the cool cultural elements of every season. But I’ll take that sacrifice if the show gets more seasons out of it!

But one quiet Friday afternoon in 2001, I opened my TV and saw this: Episode 1 of Survivor Africa. With no expectation at all, I watched it, and boy, I thought I said goodbye to the kid that I was.
Currently catching up on all the seasons, on 16 rn. I was born earlier in the same year Season 1 aired and although my family would watch it frequently I never really latched onto it.
Well, my story with survivor is really good. In my country it used to air in a paid tv channel, together with The Apprentice. And in my country, we had our own The Apprentice and I was a huge fan when I was like 8/9 years old. I got so interested that I started watching the american one. Then, one day in 2005, Survivor Borneo was airing after The Apprentice and I continued watching and I fell in love. I always remember watching Borneo, Africa, Palau and Guatemala. Then, it stopped airing in my country and never came back. I got really sad at that time. Last year, I remembered how much I loved it and started watching all over again and almost 40 seasons after, I'm still in love with this show.
My first Survivor ever. Loved it so much and to this day, remains one of my favorite seasons ever. Watched it when it first aired and became attatched immediately. Had to say, Ethan and Big Tom were hands down my favorites this season. Also, the intro is just so epic.
I actually liked Frank. I liked his dry sense of humor, very similar to Rudy's. Yeah he got overly-political in the last episode but I liked him and most of this cast. Fabulous season.
@TheOutbackProduction The guy was certainly very likeable but I find it amazing how underrated strategist Ethan is. Everyone forgets the man is behind two of the biggest turning points for his group. First throwing the challenge to get rid of Silas and the second was to blindside Brandon after Kelly's ouster. He used Lex perfectly as a goat and made moves under him when he needed to. By the end, he was the good guy that never wronged anyone. He played a nearly flawless game in Africa.
You can say the same for Lindsey when she tied in the tribal with 4 votes but won in a quiz, she would be eliminated because of these 4 votes. She was sick a few times.
Props to Russ Landau to transition the African Sigalala Theme to this one. Still one of the distinct Survivor Ancient Voices (the other one is China) that it didn't use the standard Kurski Funk vocals and lyrics but instead translated to a different language.

I had the same thing with Australia and I barely remember much of Borneo either (i just recently started to watch, I'm soon to begin AllStars now :) But despite that, I have utmost respect for Ethan, especailly since what he's going through now :) and Jenna to for being there for him.
I wonder why the intro screen is smaller than the aspect ratio of the UA-cam app. I know it was filmed differently with a different aspect ratio, but why are there black borders on the top and bottom?
@TheOutbackProduction I love both seasons and while I do think on a weekly basis Amazon was more entertaining, Africa has a more arguably likeable cast and much more satisfying ending. Although I have a much more respect for Jenna now then I did during her season.
@TheOutbackProduction Well this is how I look at his performance in AS, he did well considering everyone wanted him out since day one and he maybe the one guy who didn't have his legacy ruined by that season. Using Africa as an example, people think of Lex as a hypocritical douche (The EZ vote justified everything he got to me.) Big Tom is thought to be a bitter old man who rode Rob's coattails. All anyone says about Ethan and AS is that he got a raw deal. (Which he did.)

My argument is that AS hurt the way we viewed these players and Big Tom in AS was totally different then in Africa, even before he could have possibly known what Rob said. Whereas Ethan I feel like is the only one who didn't really lose any of his likability with fans and hasn't burned people out the way someone like Rupert did.
Surpsingly, Teresa and Kim J were my favourites this season, and I loathed Lex. :/ don't know why I am set like this, it was a good season, but Australia, Heroes Vs. Villains are my top so far (I've watcehd 1-5 (just saw Ken eleminated) and 20-22.
