Glad I chose the 14A. I have completed the empennage aluminum construction and the kit has been trouble-free. The only mistakes are mine. I am eager to get the wings and fuselage soon! Having flown in the airplane at the factory (before it received the engine upgrade), I was hooked. It is as if it was designed for my 6’4” frame. Wonderful design.
64 hours on my 14A, one impressive plane. A little over 2 years to finish quick build.
Any heating problems on climb out
@@stevemcvey5054 I usually climb at 120kts, helps keeps temps down.
Not impressive enough to change your name to Flying Vans RV14.
Was it because of lack of time? Two years is a bit much for me, but I’m young and impatient haha
Any issues with the electronic elevator horz. stab trim sensitivity? I remember something Flight-Chops was talking about.
One day I’ll build one of these
Have there been any improvements on the elevator trim-tab sensitivity?
What is the exhaust fitting at 3:57 that is pretty obviously not properly installed? That the heater?
Cabin heat. We shot this angle while the airplane was getting some maintenance.
@@KitplanesMagazine cool. Thought so/similar. Glad to know my Mk1 eyeball still catches anomalies on quick engine compartment glances.
Great video. Thanks.
What is the total time and cost to build this plane?
Van's estimates around 1100 to 1400 hours of build time, but that is really dependent on a lot of factors like builder experience, build location and other things. Finished price can be around $90K, but that's a basic version. Typically, RV-14s are $130-$145K completed, and they're usually quite well equipped.
@@KitplanesMagazine Thank you. I'm in the publishing business as well. I would love to build one of these.
@@KitplanesMagazine I'm not pilot or airplane owner, but for a single engine airplane, that seems expensive.
Think of it as buying one well equipped F150 and a good Tesla for your wife. At 210 mph you can leave NY at 6 am on Sunday, have your Sunday brunch with your wife in Miami and be back in NY before sun down and you logged about 10 hours as PIC.
@@geddon436 That's extremely reasonable for the value, the range, the speed and the payload.
I am lucky enough to be based at 52F where I have seen several recent RV-14 completions. Very very nice airplane.
Does anyone know if the engine mods work for the rv14 taildragger
Yes, they do.
Design a sexier wing please!
When you have your significant other in the passenger seat, and climb at 2000 feet a min. and their ear pops, they'll say its a sexy plane.
@@jayanthkumar7964 get the Red Pill!
Pretty hard to make a sexy wing without the us of composites. That would make this not a kit plane.
@@ChrisVirgilio I gues you mean the surface. I mean the wing planform optimization.
@@tinolino58 a tapered wing would be much more complicated to build and would really up the parts count for a very minimal performance improvement.
If you don't need 3 or 4 passengers I don't know why you'd ever chose a 10 over a 14.
I'd luv a 14, conventional u/c of course but I'd never build/buy one as I dislike tip up canopies!
I don't understand why tip-up canopies are a problem - I built an RV-14A, and love the canopy design; so easy to ingress and egress. I guess this comment comes from someone with a lack of knowledge about Vans aircraft - or so hardened on the sliding canopy idea that he/she/it can't fathom a change.
@@alexc30 no they just suck.Bang your head in them snag your purse on them wack yourself on them in some way trying to get out.
@@alexc30 can you install a catch to hold it open a couple inches while on the ground, get a little cool air going while you're on the ground? My experience is limited to a Cessna 172 so far but being able to crack a window on a hot day is a godsend.
If I end up in a cornfield upside down (ala Dan Gryder) , how the hell do I get out of this thing?
