Kaz Deyna scored his only goal during the regular season in this game. His role with the club had diminished after an ongoing feud with head coach Ron Newman. In June 1987, the Sockers released Deyna from his contract following a drunk driving conviction the previous month. On September 1, 1989, Deyna was killed when the vehicle he was driving collided with a parked truck along Interstate 15. The coroner later determined he had a blood-alcohol level of .20, twice the legal limit at the time.
