Ken, your facial expressions were hilarious 😆. I can genuinely tell you didn’t want to continue after that “shaving cream”, but you did it for us fans; and for that Sir, we thank you! - Semper Fi!
Hi, yes great work Ken. I guess it's natural/instinctive being used to lather, but for many cartridge shavers (I include myself here) there are often certain shave creams and gels that don't lather and don't need to as such, but are still slick, etc. But it was great to try anyway. Kind regards.
He looked so disgusted throughout the whole ordeal hahaha.. understandable since he is used to the good stuff, putting this cheapie cream on must have been awkward
I can appreciate the venture into just how much of a low budget shave we can find but, that is not the objective for most of us in the DE wet shaving hobby. I moved long ago from the cartridge shave and a can of foam to the luxury of a very high quality vintage DE shave using the very best in quality soaps. Enjoying taking my time to savor the experience. Ken, I know you agree with that position. Yet, it can be fun to see how much we can save and still get a good shave. Meanwhile, we may have switched to DE shaving initially to quit paying for those expensive cartridges but most of us end up acquiring multiple razors, trying a wide variety of blades and enjoying many fine soaps as we learn we have acquired a new hobby and one worth the additional costs. Full disclosure here; I also went to the dollar store and purchased the least expensive shaving products just for the experience. Then quickly went back to enjoying the full experience of the quality vintage shave.
I have used Neutragena shave cream years ago and it does not lather. It's a brushless shave cream and this one just mimics it. That all said you are braver than me. Happy you didn't injure yourself.
I bought the same razor a few months back at Dollar Tree. It's an okay razor for traveling or for camping just make sure not to over tighten it, the one side popped up and I was able to pop things back into place. I bought one for my sister to try because she can't use anything that has a lubricating strip on it. I would use it with my favorite Wilkinson Sword blades.
I had the same exact problem with mine. Ended up giving it to my son and I have 3 other legit ones now but that dollar tree razor introduced me to de shaving so i give it that.
You go and watch Alien for that "Sit on the edge of your seat" entertainment... we watch Ken Surfs for the 99 cent shave for the same effect... crazy world we live in. Congrats on 14K subs!
Actually not bad for the money & was not expecting Ken to make it to the end & no blood either! Good to know if one is caught on the road w/o shave kit. Love the lo-buck review. Thanks for taking one for the team.
I want to thank you for "No Shave November" . For cancer awareness. Last year I was diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus. I had surgery in June followed by chemotherapy then radiation and more chemotherapy which ended in December. I get periodic CT scans and blood test which so far have been clear. The point I'm trying to make is to get checked out. My wife stayed after me to get a check up and I did. The surgeon told me that without the surgery I would have been dead in less than two years. So again thank you Ken.
I bought a few of these when I saw them in a Canadian dollar store out west in Vancouver. I use these as my travel razors, I will tell you the blades are one and done, the razor TTO head does rattle and the razor is made of aluminum it feels like. I did not experience a comfortable shave, felt tugging, but it does work . As I said, I would pack this for a weekend trip , camping where I'll shave once and don't want to pack my good gear.
I found that razor at the Dollar Tree. I bought 5. Gave a couple away along with a tuck of Astra Green blades. Using this razor with a good blade and it isn't bad. I used Gillette Silver Blue and Taylor of Old Bond Street St James Collection and got a good shave. Granted, I wouldn't and don't use it any more but it works. Good travel razor if you are prone to loosing your equipment.
As Ken is showing us here, folks... We do not need to purchase the products that cost 10-30x these products for a good shave. On the other hand, I love the scents and quality of the higher priced items 😂
One thing to watchout for i the silo popping open if you tighten it too tight.. Had that happen to me but it actually does an ok job. I have my $1 one to my 4 year old (without blade) so he can shave with me. I lather his face with the brush and he laughs because it tickles him.
He will probably remember that forever.I bought mine the "lightning McQueen" play razor when he was that age.he told me we was probably going to grow a beard lol
I once bought a shaving gel in a dark bottle, pump and everything. Smell good and good protection for the razor. It was transparent, totally invisible. Mixed it with other one so I could see the progress.
Thanks for the review!! I mentioned this razor and you responded then bam two weeks later we get a vid!! Gonna give it a shot and use it when I’m sent on field ops and not have to worry about loss or damage. 🤘🏼
Hope everything works out for your family members. Cremo makes a shaving "cream" similar to the product you just used. It takes some getting used to & relies on slickness rather then cushion, but it seems to work. I've gotten some really good shaves with it. Those time when you've forgotten to soak your brush or know you don't have the time to rinse it out after the shave. Viking makes a cream that applies with a brush, but any lather is designed to quickly disapate and leave behind a very slick coating that you shave with. I haven't used it yet, but all their other products I own work great so I'd be willing to give it a go.
Wow! You are a brave man Ken! I was quite surprised with how that razor (and especially the blades) worked out. As always, I can't wait for the next video! 💈👍
After 45 years of shaving I bought one of these razors at Dollar Tree as my first DE safety razor. I had no idea what I was doing but figured why not? For a buck it'll be a learning experience. I used the shaving foam in a can since that's what I had at home. I opened it up and popped in the blade and it worked! It gave me the best shave I eve had. Now I was hooked! Sadly it fell apart after just 3-4 shaves. The butterfly doors fell off. I went and bought another one since for a buck the blades aren't that bad! I also have the new Wilkinson Sword DE razor and it's my regular razor and it' lovely. Well worth the money for a beginner on a budget. Now I'm using a brush and proper shaving soap. Thanks for the video!
I've shaved with one of those Assured razors, and was surprised at how well it worked for a buck; I used an Astra than their blade though. It's quite light and had a lot of audible feedback, but it cut hair and I didn't bleed, so I had to call it a success. It as an experiment rather than having any expectation that it would find a spot in my daily rotation. I still have it and would be willing to use it as a cheap travel razor that I wasn't concerned about losing.
I bought that razor from dollar tree in Canada. Was $1.25 cad. Razor is usable but the blades with mine were extremely bad. Used an astra sp and got a good shave.
I'm disappointed you didn't have the same experience I did with that same razor. I bought one and it fell apart before I could try it. I can't believe I was dumb enough to go buy another. The doors on that one don't even align when closed. I can't even bring myself to use it, so it sits beneath a Casey Stengel Gillette advert on my shave shelf. "Never have I been more surprised," that your razor didn't fall apart on camera and I kind of wish it did.
Had one for about a month... A few shaves, couple clean ups after straight razor shave. Fell apart... Picked up Blade Safety Razor at CVS for $4 after discount. Much better quality,
Yes, Neutrogena makes a mens brushless, no foam shave cream for men. $5 at my local drugstore. Works well, good for travel. I've seen that razor at the dollar store. You have way more nerve than I 😱 👍👍👍💈
Hi Ken- Nice shave and product use; thank you! Glad to see you made it through relatively unscathed. I hope your week is going well and best regards, as always!
This is exactly the razor and shave cream I started wet shaving with! i still use the razor with Astra Blades. i shave my entire face and head with this razor and cream. I also use a 2 pass method like you do. I has impressed with the shave. i bought 6 sets in case they don't hold up long term. I have been using only the fist razor for about 8 months now. it still looks as good as the day i started using it.
There is a Dollar Tree here in Windsor Colorado but they didn't have a brush is there any other place either store or online I can get one that you know of?
The Omega brush is not expensive but is a great brush. It needs breaking in and a good soaking before use but is an excellent brush. I used to shave with a badger till last week when I switched back to my old Omega brush. It was surprising soft, probably because it was well used and it makes a very good leather. The Omega professional boar brush is under appreciated for no good reason.
Hi Ken. I bought an Assured razor at a store here called Dollar Tree. I liked it so much I bought 4 more.lol A good little razor and for a buck....you can`t lose. Thanks for the video.👍
Those items are sold at dollar tree for $1 each and also sold on ebay from $6 to$8. Somebody's making a nice little side hustle. Thanks again for another great video.
I just bought one at The Dollar Tree store here in Windsor Colorado, I know it's cheap because the bar that keeps the blade straight sags instead of being straight don't know if that's a manufacturer defect or if all of them are like that. Am going to try it in the morning and see how it and the blades work
We have those razors and blades here in Windsor Colorado at the Dollar Tree Store but as of January this year it’s no longer a dollar for everything….they are now charging $1.25, but still for the price it’s still a good razor and blades!!👍👍
My wife picked me up one of these as an alternative to years and years of using the Gillette's fusion cartridge razors and i must say that I am now hooked on wet shaving with the safety razors. I am trying to decide which razor i will be purchasing next to start off a propper collection. I want to go with either a fat boy, rockwell, or edwin jager.... would love some feed back to stear a rookie in the right direction.
Ken, I am also surprised by the shave you had with that razor and blade. Tomorrow I will go to my Dollar store to see what they have and also do a vid on it. Love watching you and you give me a lot of ideas for my channel. Thanks
I bought some expensive ($100) German made toenail/fingernail clippers that came in a fancy leather case from a boutique knife/shaving store. The clerk highly recommended them and I was told no returns on nail clippers for obvious reasons. They were horrible! I tried them a few times because of the money spent but ended up throwing them away and getting some cheapies from the drugstore with great success! You just never know..
I just made the switch from Harry’s to DE shaving. Best decision I’ve made for shaving, all thanks to your videos Ken! Honest reviews and a wholesome story every week. Keep it goin’!
I liked Harrys at first and even subscribed. However, I found that after about 3 shaves the blades werent sharp enough for me. I have a stockipile of Harrys blades now and only use for traveling. Its DE blades for everyday for me.
Sean Roberts there’s a theory that it gets better/sharper once you start shaving more -like getting the blade started- but it’s all phoney. Even if so, then you get 2-3 shaves before it’s dull. I’d rather shave 2-3 times with a sharp DE razor than 7-10 times with a mediocre but cheap razor. It’s a give or take/quality over quantity deal.
Great shave. I heard that countries that produce DE blades like China, Russia, India and Egypt still mostly have DE shaving as their population's main shaving method. I think it's likely because they still enjoy the method or because cartridge razors barely bring in profits in these countries. It's my best guess, but that's for you to decide. I got to see the Joker this weekend. I highly recommend you go see it because the movie is so good
It’s really not a bad razor for that price! I didn’t like the Blades that came with the Assured Razor but I got a decent shave with an Astra SP blade. I also did a review of this cheap razor but had a different result & impression that you had. I purchased the Assured Razor from my local Dollar Tree. Great Shave even with the Mediocre Cream! Have a great week!😎👍
Those razors are decent for a buck, I donate them (along with a supply of decent blades) to monks in Thailand. Just put your favorite blade in them for yourself. My dollar tree has everything for shaving including the razor, shave gels, after shave balm and a small lather brush. I've used it all and it's ok. Most surprising is the after shave balm works nicely but doesn't break me out. Entertaining Ken, thank you.
I bought a lot of them razors and only kept three of them for myself. The rest I give them out to people I know to try out for themselves. But if anyone plan on using for awhile make sure to oil it down after a few uses or it will rust on you. PS I have skin cancer and it's coming back again, so I probably have to get it cut out one more time.
Go to walmart and get ya some beard oil. I use honest amish if im going to use something out of the store. Works wonders for me. Keeps the itching down and the dry flakey skin is not a problem any more.
My first intro to wet shaving was some really, REALLY knock off Chinese no name brand three piece...I paired it with some wilkinson sword blades, it did the the job until I upgraded to something better. Gemini Man was a good, decent action flick...I enjoyed it.
Just bought this razor at our Dollar Tree store here in Ohio. I, like you, was very surprised at how good this razor is. I’m new to safety razors and was not impressed with the Van Der Hagen razor I tried out a few weeks ago. This one was much better in my opinion. Great channel, Ken!
When I saw the title I went "Noooooo!!" I tried that exact razor pack from the Dollar Store and wow... I was ripped to shreds. I looked like I got in a fight with a barbed wire fence! One "shave" & it went right in the trash. Glad you had better luck!
The other day coincidentally, I saw a dollar store aftermarket version of the Arta razor, with 12 cartridges for $5! The handle is much lighter than the official Atra handle I'd imagine. I forgot how the shave felt, so I'll edit this later to update of how it felt. Fun fact about me: when I'm in a rush for anything, that's when I use a cartridge razors (so I won't have to do 2 passes!), specifically the Mach3 Turbo (maybe feature that in a future vid?). Also, I'm gonna see the 40th anniversary of Alien as well, but in my area it'll be playing on Halloween night!
I bought 2 of those Assured razors. First literally fell apart as soon as I put a blade in lolz. Second actually performed well. Didn’t use the blades but 🤷🏻♂️. That cream and aftershave aren’t half bad either. Would be decent for a travel shave honestly. Great shave Ken. Cheers 👍🏻💈
Wow !!! I would have passed up on that razor if I was to see it in the dollar store. Now I want to go out and get one for My travel shaving kit. Thanks for trying :)
That's amazing for the price! Just goes to show, it's so much more eco and a better shave than carts. Quick q ken, when you soak brush, do you use hot or just warm water??
I watched this video this afternoon and purchased what looked like the identical razor at a dollar store on my way home. Unfortunately, it is a one-piece design, similar to the Van der Hagen. Even the blades are different. The ones which came with my razor are not labeled. I will try a different dollar store tomorrow to try to find the same razor you found.
Hoping no issues arise from using these items from China🤔 You have more "faith" than many, shall we say. I was more concerned with the software than the razor, glad no cuts or scrapes. So, if no irritation happens following this shave, I'll say well done Ken😊 Another great video. Enjoy!
Hi Ken. I have lived in Turkey for over 20 years and I have never seen that shave cream. I shaved with a Dollar Store Assured For Men razor and blade today and I hated it. It felt like the blade was ripping my whiskers out.
💈 Awesome video Ken! I hear those razors are aggressive & people say don't use the blades, but you definitely proved how good those can be without a lather! 🙂👍
So funny to see you disappointed with the lack of burn from the aftershave. The burn is part of the shave. It has to be there.
Mr Azulak 👍👍💈
Hi yes, but if you are like me with sensitive skin 'no burn' is a good thing...
I have both the lathering and non lathering types of shaving creams. I use the non lathering ones when I shave in the shower and am in a hurry. The lathering shaving creams are reserved for when I have the time to enjoy the ritual of shaving.

Ken, your facial expressions were hilarious 😆. I can genuinely tell you didn’t want to continue after that “shaving cream”, but you did it for us fans; and for that Sir, we thank you! - Semper Fi!
DS DS Lol..thank you👍👍💈
DS DS shut up virgin
Hi, yes great work Ken. I guess it's natural/instinctive being used to lather, but for many cartridge shavers (I include myself here) there are often certain shave creams and gels that don't lather and don't need to as such, but are still slick, etc. But it was great to try anyway. Kind regards.
He looked so disgusted throughout the whole ordeal hahaha.. understandable since he is used to the good stuff, putting this cheapie cream on must have been awkward
Thank you Ken. You are very brave and are going above and beyond testing these ultra inexpensive shaving products. You deserve a medal!!
William Emil Celeiro Lol..thank you
I can appreciate the venture into just how much of a low budget shave we can find but, that is not the objective for most of us in the DE wet shaving hobby.

I highly recommend you go see it because the movie is so good
GoldenSteelTV I’m looking forward to seeing Joker
It’s really not a bad razor for that price! I didn’t like the Blades that came with the Assured Razor but I got a decent shave with an Astra SP blade. I also did a review of this cheap razor but had a different result & impression that you had. I purchased the Assured Razor from my local Dollar Tree. Great Shave even with the Mediocre Cream! Have a great week!😎👍

Just picked up 2! One for work and one to test at home!
Thanks Ken, kinda reminds me of the Cremo brushless cream. Really slick but no lather. Not my favorite. Congrats on 14K!
David chaffin thank you
Those razors are decent for a buck, I donate them (along with a supply of decent blades) to monks in Thailand.
Great video Ken.

Great video Ken! Really enjoyed it. Cheers!
Billy Talent thank you
Great and cheap shave! Well done Ken...!! Enjoyed your video...encouraged me to go get some cheap shave...there's loads around from where I am.

Jerry G get well Jerry👍👍
Well done Ken. With good technique you can shave with almost anything! All the best. Zac

Brilliant experiment Ken really enjoyed this - taking one for the team !
Go to walmart and get ya some beard oil. I use honest amish if im going to use something out of the store. Works wonders for me. Keeps the itching down and the dry flakey skin is not a problem any more.

Well that outcome was surprising. Good stuff as always Ken.
Saxie81 I was really surprised
Cool shave Ken! I have seen that razor set in my local dollar store, can’t believe it was a good shave lol life is full of surprises

I think that Neutrogena knock-off was a 6-in-1 shave cream, aftershave, bodywash, shampoo, toothpaste, and brake caliper grease.
My first intro to wet shaving was some really, REALLY knock off Chinese no name brand three piece...I paired it with some wilkinson sword blades, it did the the job until I upgraded to something better.
Gemini Man was a good, decent action flick...I enjoyed it.

Hey Ken, absolutely love all your vids! Keep up the awesome work

Looks like the dollar shave club shave butter
Shane 9_9_00 👍👍

David Smith That will be cool. That movie gave me nightmares again
I wonder if the people who make that shave cream use it

I bought 2 of those Assured razors. First literally fell apart as soon as I put a blade in lolz. Second actually performed well. Didn’t use the blades but 🤷🏻♂️. That cream and aftershave aren’t half bad either. Would be decent for a travel shave honestly. Great shave Ken. Cheers 👍🏻💈
Greenee Guy Thank you👍💈
I have used those products! Worked well for me. Good video!

More on!!! Hahaha!!! that's a good one Ken. Great video

I’d use that cream as a pre shave
*Even if it's a budget wet shave, it's still BETTER than those cartridges.*

I got barbasol, from the 99 cent store the other day!
Nestor Lopez That’s a good soap
Awesome Ken 👍👍

I bought some of those razors at dollar tree ,One of them has half of the top missing ,I didnt notice it until I got home. The other ones seem ok.
Wow !!! I would have passed up on that razor if I was to see it in the dollar store. Now I want to go out and get one for My travel shaving kit. Thanks for trying :)

Believe it or not but I was excited about this video when you first announced it and I am not disappointed, great video Ken
Domenic Aloe Thank you👍💈
That's amazing for the price! Just goes to show, it's so much more eco and a better shave than carts. Quick q ken, when you soak brush, do you use hot or just warm water??
Colin G Scrowther I use warm water.👍👍💈
@@kensurfs also... How long do you soak it ?? On the videos hardly appears to be even 60 seconds. I need at least 5 -10 mins with my Omega boar
From how you describe it, that cream sounds more like Cremo.
Daniel Jennings very close
Hoping no issues arise from using these items from China🤔 You have more "faith" than many, shall we say. I was more concerned with the software than the razor, glad no cuts or scrapes. So, if no irritation happens following this shave, I'll say well done Ken😊 Another great video. Enjoy!
Terry M Thank you
Before and Aftershaves 👍👍💈
Buy some beard oil. It will help with the beard itch for sure. Theres tons of good companies out there. Either that or make your own
Jesse Gillen Thanks👍💈💈
Come on, Ken! Life’s too short for a Dollar Tree razor! LOL I actually bought one and tried it. Actually passable,
