As a long time Clipper fan it’s NEVER been easy. The perpetual disappointments, the endless injuries and the constant insults from laker fans in LA make it TOUGH. I must say however that Steve Ballmer, both as an owner and as a man, has been a wonderful source of pride for me. I love his enthusiasm, his philanthropy and his drive to improve the team. I’ve never seen a team owner I could honestly say was the personification of the team’s “number one fan”. He greets the players in the tunnel after games, he seems to live and die at pivotal moments during the games and he seems genuinely concerned about players when they’re hurt (such a welcome departure from the typical soulless owners I always see in sports) and he really has turned us into a world class organization. For him to build a stadium like he did (yes I know he’s insanely wealthy but still…), I thought was a great example of an owner putting his money where his mouth is. I recently talked to some laker friends of mine and they, begrudgingly, said Ballmer is one of the few things they like about the Clippers. His presence and passion for the team, whether or not it translates into winning a championship, have helped me remain a Clipper fan and I’ve only seen my admiration for him, as an owner and a man, grow. Thank you Mr. Ballmer for being a fantastic owner and, I think, an even better, man.
When one of the original founders of Microsoft, Paul Allen, was diagnosed with cancer, Bill gates & Steve Ballmer tried to collude together to reduce Paul Allen’s shares. He’s not a good person.
I referee basketball in the Seattle area. Ballmer used to attend AAU games when his son played. Very genuine and enthusiastic fan who was a perfect gentleman in the stands.
I am usually not a fan of people who hate the most productive people and use empty weasel words like greed. And after reading your comment, I am not a fan of you. Nothing has changed. You are still awful.

In the NBA the only thing that wins games are talented players that are difference makers night after night. The arena is just a nice new shiny place to play games in and preferably, a moneymaker. The Clippers roster is not very imptessive.
2:50 "I don't worry about revenue or day-to-day" but you wouldn't give Paul George a 4th year on his contract ? let him walk after giving up 5 1st round picks and SGA? But you worry about winning.. wouldn't re-signing Paul George help you win? Makes no sense
Ballmer is the one owner who truly doesn't have to worry about wins and losses. He's gonna be good if the Clippers have a losing record for ten years straight. And he's got the passion and capital to make sure that never happens. I'm not a Clippers fan but I'm jealous of their ownership situation.
As a Milwaukee Bucks fan I admire Balmer taking the Clippers in a new direction. You could say I may actually try to watch a few Clippers games this season.
That's crazy. Imagine being as rich as that guy and putting up the money himself to build his franchise its own arena. And he looks like he's having a blast, as he should. He gets to hang out with the greatest NBA stars in the world and literally be his franchise's biggest fan for a living.
Building a stadium or arena without any public money is not at all unusual for pro teams in California, as the Dodgers, Rams, Lakers/Kings (2 arenas), Giants, Warriors, FCLA and Galaxy all built their home venues without any taxpayer/public money involved. Intuit Dome is another in a collection of the best sports venues in the country and arguably the world all built without a dollar of corporate welfare for billionaires.
When someone is worth north of a 100 Billion dollars, you know they're not doing this for money. This is pure passion and love for his team. Love to see people who aren't bandwagons support and invest in underdog Teams. As a Bucks fan, rooting for the Clippers to get one Championship just for this guy while he's still alive. He deserves it!
An excellent example for Sports’ Billionaire Owners. If you want a stadium, dome or arena, YOU finance yourself without American Taxpayers or Taxpayers in your respected states. An Excellent Billionaire 🏀💰💯🙏🏿👍🏿.
Every LA Clippers player should feel blessed to have a passionate owner like this. He could retire and buy a tropical island all for himself. Yet his NBA team is his passion but sadly full of spoiled NBA players. Especially Kahwi Leonard, the one with a max contract is available for play only when contract extensions are near. I hope to see the Clippers in the finals this year against Steph’s GS.
Trust me if kawhi could hed play every game. He has a chronic knee issue that keeps him from playing every game. Most guys would retire with his knee. Hes still in the gym working out harder than others trying to get right.
When Ballmer bought the team back in 2014, I really thought his long-term plan was to move the team to Seattle, where he resides. Now that he's built the new Intuit Dome, that dream has been officially squashed.. :(
Leaving one of the biggest markets in the US for sentimental reasons!? Ballmer is to business savvy for that! Heck, the other owners voted for new rules for the salary cap (second apron etc.), just to keep him from spending as much money as he decided he would like to.
I wouldn't get too excited about this guy. It's amazing what a basket case Microsoft was during his time as CEO. From 12/01 to 12/12, total return on MSFT was negative 19%! That's actually hard to do.
What a great owner! I can’t wait to be in our seats tonight for the first Clippers game in Intuit! We’re in the Wall, of course! Thank you Mr Ballmer! Go Clippers!
Amazing person and family! They don’t use money or success to define them, just genuinely great people. He’d literally be at my hs basketball games cheering louder than everyone, sweating profusely, with no security lol. My mom hadn’t seen him since those days in 2013 and he remembered her name at the pro am a couple years ago. My mom was blown away but it speaks to who Steve is as a person. Hard not to root for him!
What DOESN't help his team is losing PG to the Sixers nor does Kwahi being hurt nearly all of the past 3 seasons. But this guy's passion can "will it to happen" in alot of areas of life. Pretty gutsey question to ask "How does wealth not change you?" And equally gutsey to admit "I am fundamentally changed."
You have to agree that Steve Ballmer is a class act. His personality is polarizing but you can just tell that he‘s a straight-up man and honest. Unlike his counterpart Gates
Went to Intuit dome last night, I'm not a clippers fan but i see the vision balmer is trying to achieve. Its an incredible venue. Clippers fans should be very excited for their new home. Hoping i can make it for opening night so i can watch my Suns get the first win at the dome!
Ballmer ought to consider buying an NHL Franchise! God knows the NHL needs a guy like him. Bring an NHL team to the city of Quebec City. You’ll be the king of the entire province for generations. Plan a trip and come see the world class arena built just for that, the coming of an NHL franchise! You will get a TON of medias and publicity.
If only Jerry Jones had this passion and charisma! Don't get me wrong they both expect and demand excellence but there are different ways to go about it.
Steve Ballmer is the best thing that happened to the Clippers. We need more owners like him in pro sports.
Let's hope you don't become Windows Phone 7

I agree. If only seattle had a team. The lakers are a daycare anymore. Meanwhile boston continues to stack chips.
And the clippers are the worst thing that happened to him

A true humble legend
When I met Steve ballmer many years ago he was a very nice person. It's always heartwarming when nice guys end up at the top.

"I don't worry about the revenue day to day..." yup he is on a different level from other owners
When the value of the team increases more than net operating losses you don't really need to care.
You care if you need that revenue to keep the lights on like the Lakers.
