Absolutely agree with the pop up viewfinder and screen tilt and it should come weatherproofed

The only thing the griii needs is weather sealing like the Fuji x100v. Everything is sealed but you need the extra filter/adapter to complete the seal. This means it can be small still but you have that option.
The only other thing and I would pay whatever they asked for would be a really decent hot shoe EVF that tilts up and down. I would love the griii to have a viewfinder but that’s just nuts considering what this mini aps-c camera can fit in it already. It’s an amazing camera as is and my two wish list items are doable while keeping the GR a GR.

    For me:
Longer battery life, that's more important.
    Weather resistant.
Better dust management, or make it easier to get to the sensor to clean it.
Make the screen easier to see in the bright sunlight.
Maybe a 6-8 Stop ND filter.

For me: pop up viewfinder, longer battery life. These are the most important to keep the form factors. Pockets full of batteries or a hot shoe EVF kill the pocketability. I don’t need weather sealing. Most cameras of this price point aren’t weather sealed.

Of course a viewfinder, a tilt display and a larger battery would be very nice. But is this possible without making the camera bigger? I do not think so. (And yes, the size of the sensor on the RX 100 plays a role. The problem is not the size of the sensor itself, but the mechanism for the IBIS. You can find pictures online that show the inner workings of the GR. The IBIS mechanism is quite large) And the only reason why bought the GR III is its small size. If the camera gets bigger, I won't buy it anymore.
My wish: A second wheel on the back. The back "wheel" is not a real wheel, it's more of a toggle. When I shoot in M I can set the aperture and time front or back. This is not possible in Av or Tv. On one the front wheel is for time, on the other for aperture. That's annoying.

What coul easily be changed with a software update: As far as I know, it is not possible to turn off the exposure preview. I use a manual flash in M mode and low ISO. Of course, the camera doesn't know that I'm using a flash and therefore the image on the screen is completely dark. This is a real bummer. With all my other cameras I can turn off the exposure preview. PS: Nobody uses the GR III for video. I haven't even tried this yet...

I don’t want video. I’d be happy if they got rid of video altogether. You can always pull out your phone and take a short clip. I would like them to focus on low light performance and weather sealing. This is a snap shooter that fits in the palm of your hand and comparing it to the other cameras is a mistake. Keep it simple Ricoh.

Some good suggestions there and I agree with a lot of the things you said. Personally I would like 1) better weather sealing. 2) A photography centric quiet camera (which could help with my previous point). You wouldn't need holes for the speaker and microphones. Use your phone for filming. 3) A larger internal memory (128Gb ideal, 64Gb minimum) with the ability to simultaneously write to both cards for backup purposes. 4) A pop-up viewfinder (having a slightly wider GR IV would be fine). 5) A slight bump in resolution so the crop modes are more useful. 6) Ricoh to work with Adobe so AI Denoise for RAW files could be introduced to Photoshop/Lightroom (it works great with my Fuji cameras but not with the GR iii).

Three things I'd like to have:
    - Better AF
    - Better AF
    and... ok, that's enough 😂
Seriously though, a better AF and maybe a slightly bigger sensor (MPIXwise) would be nice.
Improved (simplified) companion app (ok, that can always be fixed separately as it's not something directly related, but it's still a part of the experience)
Another button for customisation. Another User Mode(s) on the dial. More custom filters Filters released as actual presets for use on a computer. Small OVF. Small flashgun (nice but not neccessary).
And sonething probably imposssible: 18-26mm zoom lens with costant 2.8 - so GR III and GR IIIx combined 😂

The viewfinder and swivel screen would be great. I don't know if the 40mp sensor could be a good thing, I have the XT5 and that sensor produces a lot of noise and sometimes I go back to shooting with my XS10 for that. We hope they listen to the requests of all owners of this amazing compact camera!

For me... Internal memory upgrade, and tilt screen - yes. Pop-up EVF - no, if there is a tilt screen. Yes, the shutter button can be hit and miss if a very quick shot is required. More internal memory would be very nice but not essential. Better video could be good I suppose for some but I have never used my GR III for video. Thanks Luke.

My number one on my wish list would be the pop up evf or ovf WITH dioptric correction otherwise it's useless for me. My number 2 would be the tilt screen and my number 3 would be improving a lot the ring on the back

Personally I have a GRIIIx, and I like almost all in it. Obviously the improvements I want are a bigger battery (so I have to carry less spares), better dust resistance, better quality buttons and other software tweaks for the customization. More megapixels would be great, maybe 28-30 can be a sweet spot. The video function NEED a manual or semi-manual mode and a better compression/bitrate.
Actually I like the fixed screen, I don't have to think how to move it and instead I take photos...
What I would like, but I think Ricoh can't do... Faster lens would be amazing, but I think it can raise the price too much. I think an electronic viewfinder is possible, but not a pop-up, maybe better some removable one like Canon made for the G1x Mark II or the one that Leica make for the latest M series.

    I’d like a 24mm equivalent version.
Size is perfect as is, if it gets bigger then it’s not worth it anymore.
    Definitely better dust proofing
Remove video functionality altogether (if someone wants video then there are tons of other larger options)
Move fn button further away from the scroll wheel because it’s too close for back button focusing
More MP would be nice for cropping but totally unnecessary

  • @Termidryna
    @Termidryna Рік тому +1

    1. Dustproof!
    2. Faster aperture if it's technically possible
    3. Bigger/better battery
And maybe I'll think about purchase.

My view is do away with video all together, it’s a major negative that is always talked about, but I think the majority of users wouldn’t use it, even it it was better. It’s a photographer’s camera, so dispensing with video altogether would actually “set it apart” from other cameras. Bit more resolution, yes, but not 40MP - the files would just be too big and again, detract for alot of users I think. I’d like to see the Crop modes reflected 100% in the viewfinder, then that feature would be really worth using. Bigger internal memory, yes please - but as you intimated “be careful what you wish for“ otherwise we will be in an apple situation…..without the option to use SD cards eventually ! - great video, thanks.

We need a few things on the GRIV and quite frankly we need the GRIV to serve as a high end GIII alterative in the $1500-$2,000 USD range We really only need 5 things
    1. We need an EVF (pop up isn't ideal but it would be the very least)
    2. We need a higher MP Sensor at least 30mp but ideally something closer to 40mp
    3. We need a round Leica style shutter button
    4. We need 4k 24p video
    5.We need better autofocus
I'm 100% sure Ricoh could do all of this, and only increase the size of the body by 15% maximum to make it still easily pocketable. I carry an iphone 14 pro max which is significantly longer, they could probably keep the same thinness and add all these functions by just making the camera longer. If they can do all of this I will willingly pay a $2,000 retail price.
Don't get me wrong the video desire is somewhat ambitious and will probably make the camera get quite hot. However having that function at least for a few minutes or so would be nice and adding the recorder in the camera wouldn't be to big.
However for all these requests, we'd expect this camera to come out late 2024 or early 2025

You lost me at more magapixel , 40 mp is worse in low light and take more storage,24-26 is sweet spot for apsc camera, just add little bit of weather seal & improve autofocus and maybe new sansor…thats it…

To avoid a bulkier, much more expensive camera, what about an integrated or pop up optical viewfinder included in the current about usd/euro 1,000 price range ? It would save battery life, give an analog experience and would be cheaper and easier to design than an electronic viewfinder.

Without being biased, and as a huge admirer of GR3’s PR/Mktg strategies and media tactics, the reality is, it is sheer lunacy and daylight robbery to pay such a premium price for any little modern camera that doesnt even have (at the absolute minimum)…an EVF.
Its like buying a new, not inexpensive, street car in 2023 not equipped electric/power windows.
