    I just got a 2nd hand Colinbus machine and have converted it to run LinuxCNC and it works just fine.

    Hello, i have a first gen colinbus profiler since 2007.
    I'm just tearing down the controller to make it usable with LinuxCNC, thanks to yours instructions.
    Many thanks !

      +ROBIN Guillaume Nice! I have added a link to my notes to the video description. Including pinouts and a working linuxcnc configuration.

      +Marco Reps Thank you, i finished the soldering part, i'm downloading LinuxCNC. I'll keep you up to date shortly ;)

      +Marco Reps I just finished some test, everything works fine ! I have latency issues, but i'm using an old laptop running live LinuxCNC distro, i'll investigate that tomorrow !
      About the original controller; "EVIL" is the right word. The controller's hardware is based on powerful H8, but firmware and proprietary command language ruins everything.
      Thanks for your help ! I'll post more news later. Many thanks again !

      +Marco Reps Hello, my "new" Profiler is working fine, thanks to you ;)
      You have literally given new life to her !
      I'm trying to add a Z touch plate (maybe a real sensor in the future) to EMC2 using these instructions :
      forscience.nl/?p=144 (Part 1)
      forscience.nl/?p=197 (Part 2)
      I need to launch StepConf to change some settings. Can you provide the lioncubs.stepconf file (at the root of EMC2 configs folder) ?
      I'm trying to re-make the configuration from scratch, but your settings were perfect and there is always something odd in mine.
      Thank you !

    Marco, where did you get the spare bearing? I recently got an identical machine, picked it up myself so no shipping damage. One of the MPI00025-bearings (smaller, non-eccentric) is pretty rough and might need replacement ...

    Non metric parts are always difficult to get :(

      Might be able to ask an American or Canadian to buy off McMaster Carr for you. E.g., they sell a package of 50 hardened 440C .0001" tolerance 1/16" bearings for $5.24.

      In Canada, a supposedly metric country for the past 50 years, I can't get M3 and M4 screws anywhere. If I a am lucky to find such an exotic items, the price is also exotic..

    Can you do a video on how to teardown in time lapse? This stuff just takes me so long to do!

    Ich konnte über das Internet Archive die originale Ansteuerungssoftware herunterladen und installieren, jedoch ist sie absoluter Mist und nicht zu gebrauchen.
    Wir konnten mit DeskProto etwas mit dem Gerät arbeiten, jedoch läuft auch hier die Ansteuerung über die Software des Herstellers und naja...

      +Horst L Toll, sag mal bescheid wie es läuft! Es scheinen ja doch noch einige von den Maschinen im Umlauf zu sein ...

    • @localhorst8996
      @localhorst8996 8 років тому

      +Marco Reps Werd ich machen. Ich denk auch das noch viele im Umlauf sind, vrmtl auch schon umgerüstet auf andere Controller. Den nach dem was ich so im Netz gefunden habe, scheint grad die original Software des Gerätes absoluter Mist gewesen zu sein.

      +Marco Reps Hi, kurze Rückmeldung. Inzwischen haben wir die Maschine wieder zum laufen gebracht.
      Soweit funktioniert sie auch gut, leider scheint bei unserer die Z-Achse was abbekommen zu haben.
      Danke auch nochmal für deine Configs, waren ne super Hilfe.

      +Horst L Oh, hoffentlich nichts mit den Profillaufrollen?

    • @localhorst8996
      @localhorst8996 8 років тому

      +Marco Reps Nein, kann sein das sich was an den Fuehrungen verzogen hat. Aber wir haben wieder den original Spindelhalter angebracht und damit tut se jetzt soweit. Vllt. wird se demnaechst gegen ein neues Modell getauscht, da sie inzwischen doch oefter verwendet wird als anfangs gedacht.

    Thank you for the great instructional video! I am about to convert a Colinbus CBR-40 which is a very similar machine. I connected almost everything to the parallel port according to your drawing in the colinbus.png file but since I am not experienced in electronics I don't understand where the XYZReset and NC(Relay) pins need to be connected if at all. I would much appreciate some help. Thank you.

    • @reps
      @reps  7 років тому +1

      NC = Not connected, the rest is up to you. You configure the parallel port pins in your software and connect them to the hardware accordingly. What I have put in the D-SUB-25-Pinout.txt is just an example. XYZReset resets the stepper driver ICs, not needed usually!

      Thank you for the quick response. I tried it now and it works! You literally saved this machine for me. If I could donate to you somewhere let me know because I owe you a beer!(or RedBull:)

    Colinbus doesn't have a website anymore. I guess not answering customers and having an "agenda" didn't work out.

    Hi +Marco Reps,
    I'm trying to follow your guide. At this time mine "lioncubs" is moving all the axis but the home position and axis limits is not set correctly, I don't know why because I have used your lioncubs.stepconf.
    Can you guide me on how to set limits and home position?
    Thanks this guide is awesome!

    • @reps
      @reps  8 років тому +2

      Every limit switch needs its own resistor (1k to 10k) to 5V AND a parallel port input pin on one side and GND on the other side. Check with voltmeter if input pins are normally at 5V and when switch is pressed 0V. Then fiddle with stepconf until it recognizes it too :) Good luck

      +Marco Reps I have mismatch HDR 1 with HDR3. Now it's working but i have 0V when the switch is pressed and 5V when it's not... But it's working! Thanks!

      +Sebastião Beirão Great! It is best practice to have those lines normally high so that the machine notices cable break but that's only important for higher power machines where a crash can damage something else.

      +EADGBEdown Mach3 is a windows based machine controller, that does what LinuxCNC does but not as good ... Can be connected the same way tho.

    Is anyone watching this based in the UK ? I'm looking for someone with the knowledge to convert my identical machine as frankly I could probably attempt this but honestly don't do electrics and would probably take me too long alternatively id through it over the fence . I live in Guildford and am happy to travel and pay someone
